You're the anon buying a Bodyline jsk from the other thread, right? I saw the argument.

The trouble with coordinating navy and black, in mainstream clothes, is that it can sometimes look as if the wearer dressed in dim light and could not tell that one item was navy instead of black, especially if it's something like a black sheath dress with navy tights, so that's why it looks like a dressing mistake.

If you can make it look intentional, eg by adding black accents to the your navy dress, or in all of the coordinates posted above, coordinate navy, white and black together rather than just navy and black, then I think it can work pretty well.

Maybe you work up a collage and post it to the collage concrit thread so other anons can tell you if it looks good or not.

>> No.7495378

>>7495261
I just don't see why you would, there are so many other things you could do.

I think most of the issue lies in the shades of the two colors more than anything navy tends to be a bit warmer so a warmer black would work better but still not too amazing. If you look >>7495272 the tones of the two colors compliment one another, where as it might not with the wrong tone. Though, that's not necessarily navy, but you see my point.

Another thing is that I think that most blackxblue coords have both black and blue in their main pieces and it will not look good if you colorblock black and navy, at all.

Not sure if anyone is interested, but I posted a cardigan dying problem in the last lolita general. I decided to try dying it the pink color again.
To my surprise, it turned out very well! In fact, the color is LIGHTER now which I can't say I've ever experience with dye. It looks waay better than I ever imagined.
The trick was when I looked up dying with RIT and found buried in step ~13 of their tutorial that laundry detergent in the dye bath helps. Ok, never heard that one before. I assumed they meant powdered which I didn't have but I DID have some soda ash fixer from previous cosplay dying experiences and assumed it was basically the same thing. (it's not, but it worked just as well) I also added salt to the dye bath
Interestingly, the plastic buttons on this dyed the same shade of pink. I don't have a good explanation why. The polyester thread on the buttonholes didn't dye very well, consistent with previous dying experiences.
Now, I'm just trying to figure out how to alter this and make it a better lolita cardigan. It needs.. something? lace around the collar, I was thinking of even trimming the hem off, making it a bolero, and resewing the hem on as a ruffle somewhere. I don't really know.

blue box: not sure, may overlap with your JSK in a weird way and look frumpy
orange box: don't, because they will probably look weird under the JSK. also neck ribbons will just make things look messy.

That's the reason most brands don't use that particular sailor collar, it looks too weird no matter what you do.

A high collar blouse could work, alternatively a raglan sleeve blouse where you hide most of the neckline under the jsk could also work if the cut of the blouse was close enough to the jsk.

I was in the same boat of wanting to wear sweet but not suiting it. In the end I found a nice middle ground with Innocent World and Angelic Pretty (normally A/W releases for the latter.) I know my style leans more towards sweet but I see people throwing around the term 'sweet/classic' a lot when they describe their own look, so it's not like it's an unusual thing to do.

Pic related are a few pieces from my wardrobe to illustrate what I'm talking about.
Basically what I'm moving my wardrobe towards is the following:

>avoiding most super cutesy prints with a few exceptions (eg: going for Toy March as opposed to Toy Parade.)
>using brown as a base colour
>avoiding pastels (I still have a lot of pink stuff but I'm slowly selling it off and adding more wine and navy)
>accessorizing with gold metals as opposed to plastic
>using normal shaped bags (yet again, I make a few exceptions)
>using more 'normal' shoes (oxfords rather than teaparties)

Hopefully that helps!

I have another suggestion for you: don't choose.

Instead, make your first dress something that you really like and can imagine yourself wearing. When you build a coordinate around that dress, more important than the style, choose items of clothing that flatter you, eg - you may want to avoid very wide Peter Pan collars as they'll accentuate how "old" your face is (maybe?), or you want to avoid certain colours that wash your out, that sort of thing.

Don't worry about choosing a style. The style is a label you slap onto your finished coordinate so that others can find you more easily. If you pigeonhole yourself as strictly only sweet or classic, then it only limits your creativity.

If you're looking for advice for building a wardrobe, it's essentially more of the same: pick dresses and blouses in motifs you like, worry about whether the cuts and colours that flatter your bodytype, facetype and skintone, not about what substyle it is. If you want to make sure you have a coherent wardrobe, try to pick dresses with similar motifs and colour palette, but they can come from any brand. Put together each outfit in a way that you like, then stand back and slap a label on it only after you're done coordinating, not before.

The legality in most countries hinges entirely upon if you have intent to sell. Buying an exact replica (logo and all) is legal in almost all countries. Selling however is illegal in most. Are you seriously dumb? It's illegal to be knowingly in possession of, purchase and sell any counterfeit items. It's not illegal to unknowingly purchase them though, but it's very hard to prove you didn't know it was counterfeit(ie you can't claim to have thought a bag that costs $500 was 'on sale' for $50 and also legit.

What's more is that most counterfeiters are from China and therefore pretty much immune to laws against it since shit government.

Also, funny thing, you seem like the kind of person who thinks that just because laws say it's only illegal to buy and sell drugs you can't get in trouble for possession. Hah.

They don't have a lot of good ribbon, they have grossgrain (ridged texture, too still to tie), satin (silky texture, can look tacky if it's cheap) and organza (sheer chiffon, probably not what you are looking for) and all of the above can be wired on the edge (those are for decorating, not clothes). Michaels and Hobby Lobby have some high quality ribbons. You should probably get a double sided satin ribbon.

Those neck ties are usually sewed from fabric though.

Hey guys, I have a few questions when it comes to selling a dress & I'd like your opinions please.

- When you're selling a dress what other factors go into setting a price (besides how much it's wanted)?

- What other things should I know when I'm trying to sell this dress? Besides looking at feedback, showing pictures of the dress, noting it's condition & just exercising common sense.

Need some help with baidu.
I haven't visited baidu for a long time and now it seems I cannot access it anymore, and you have to have an account in order to view threads on tieba.baidu? I used to be able to view anything, but now I get to pic related when I just click on the 2nd page of a thread.
Apparently it says I need an account if google translate is correct.
So I tried to create an account, but it's impossible for a non chinese person to confirm your account since western phone numbers won't work and I have issues with the chinese captcha as well.
Next thing I tried was binding my weibo account with baidu, but it only redirects me to some kind of paypal payment instruction site which leads to nothing..
Eventually I was successful with binding my QQ messenger account with baidu, but I still can't access any more and I don't know what else can I do about it.

tl;dr
Do binded accounts not work at all or is there something else I can do about it?
Is there another way I can get full access to baidu threads?

So far what I think I'm going for:

A nice double-sided satin can look lovely, but I stress the 'nice' part - you need good, soft ribbon with a pliant handle and dull sheen and no plastic shine or stiffness.

For a necktie, velvet is best double-sided also, unless you wish to pre-sew a fake bow to clip onto your collar. Otherwise the dull, wrong side will show up when you tie the bow.

Organza can look light and airy, again, try to find a good quality soft organza, if it is stiff or scratchy or wired, it will look terrible, especially in photos.

Grosgrain can have issues tying into nice bows if it is too thick/stiff, so again, feel the ribbon and see how it hangs/folds.

Strips of chiffon can look lovely, and are what I usually make my neck ties out of!

Hope that helps, good luck!

If you do end up going to Michaels to buy ribbon, look to see if your store has a selection of ribbon that's cut by the yard- it's usually (but not always! Some by-the-yard ribbon is shit) better quality than the full spools of ribbon you get. Normally the by-the-yard ribbon is in a different section than the regular ribbon, so depending on your store, you may have to hunt for it a bit (it's on the back of an endcap at my Michaels). So yeah. I dunno what their ribbon selection has been like lately, but you might find something good there. Just a heads up. Good luck!

If it's chiffon, clean it very carefully and don't rub vigorously. It's incredibly easy to pull printed threads out of alignment on chiffon. I snagged a thread on my very favorite chiffon lolita dress recently and I felt so awful, totally out of proportion to the damage. I think the fact that we think of lolita as retaining value is terrible for me because some clothing damage is inevitable if you actually wear it. My regular clothes don't stress me out nearly as much even if they were expensive because there's no notable resale value. Anxiety issues suck. Good luck with your stain.

Factors I look into when selling are:
- Any damage/stains
- How many previous owners its had.
- How many times I've worn it
- How much it typically sells for.

When vetting buyers I tend to look at feedback and I avoid selling to anyone with obviously fake facebook names (eg someone who uses a middle name/nickname I tend not to have an issue with but I'm not selling to Uguu Loli Hime-Chan). I also don't ship to any address other than the listed paypal address so I'm not screwed over if they put in a claim. If someone asks for a hold or payment plan ask for a non-refundable deposit.

As long as you wear the brand's pieces you're fine. And if you're going to a tea party with the designers they will recognize them... A lot of non print stuff still is recognizable as one brand or another... Unlss it's old school or some kind of non print baby lp which looks very generic. But still, you wear a brand main piece you will be fine. How about you tell us what you're planning on wearing, you'd be really surprised how many non print collectors there are out there. I only care about the OP. I want that fucking OP, man, but I'll probably have to wait forever before I can start searching for it with intent to buy it. So hopefully it won't cost much like a lot of people have predicted. It's really strange because I'm a total gosu rori, but that thing is like. A dream dress for me, omfg.

Has anybody else been having problems with Japamart? My initial deposit went through fine, but now any time I try to deposit more or pay off invoices, I'm refunded within a few days.
I know that they have a rule where you can't deposit more than $300, but I've tried anywhere between $10 - $299 and it's all turned out the same.
This is especially irritating because I have invoices I need to pay off before I start getting late fees. Not to mention that I'll eventually need to pay for shipping.
(And yes, I've used the same Paypal this entire time.)

Looking for advice, I'm in the middle of wardrobe purge. Right now I am pretty sure I'll wear pretty much my whole closet and look pretty good, and it all matches okay.

The thing is I have Veirge Vampur's Meal Time OP. Its stunning. I manged to buy it off someone which basically my exact measurements, but I am never going to wear that damn dress. Even if I do I feel like I won't do it justice as I'm a boring coord-chan.

Should I sell it or keep it? It's my dream dress but I feel like its a bit of waste having it just sit there. Have any of you sold a dream dress you didn't wear? Did you regret it?

Why don't you try making a coord or two with it before making the decision? It seems like a waste to think about selling before you've even tried to wear it.

I tried to snag a B type Oddment Lucky Pack from IW. They sold out so fast that I got an e-mail from IW telling me I'm on Waiting list. What does this mean? Do I still gave any chances to get my frikin' LP? I'm so angry I didn't see the listing early.
Do you gals know when there may be a new oddment LP up?

What are your measurements? If you decide to sell it, I'll gladly buy it off of you if it fits.

Anyone? It's been 20 business days.. is there really nothing I can do? I'd rather have the dress but I wish I could at least get my money back.

Definitely hang on to it. I regret selling some dresses of mine so much and I can't find them again. And if I do I know I'll have to pay way more than what I sold them for.
