It's our first real time cosplaying, and we hope to make it absolutely PERFECT. Hopefully someone will recognize us.

I'll probably cosplay Saturday, but it'll be something I've worn before. It's a bit of a hike from my hotel to the con center and I'm flying in, so I didn't want to bother with anything big or new. I am making Pokemon outfits for the pub crawl, though.

I've got Lux I'll probably be wearing on Friday, and then should have a big Mass Effect group on Saturday in which I'll be Tali. Though, it's really difficult to wear her for long periods, so I might switch to Ellie later on from The Last of Us.
I really want to bring my Tiny Tina too, but I'm just not sure when... :/

Working on my Riven and will be bringing my Zelda. My friends and I managed to get 3 day passes before they sold out. Don't know what we're doing afterwards though, really haven't seen much so far regarding parties.

PAX has a ban on booth babes. A few of the developers have people in costume. Sony had a woman dressed as the main character from Remember Me last year.

I heard Nintendo isn't going to be making an appearance this year!

It's a shame. But at the same time, I don't blame them.

The only thing they had for show last year was Lego City, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon and Luigi's Mansion.

I bought Luigi's Mansion, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon and the Pikachu Edition 3DS the day they sold them at the con. And they both kinda sucked.

Doing some VN cosplay (Dahlia Hawthorne from Ace Attorney, Peko Pekoyama from SDR2). Having PAX on the horizon is keeping my post-con depression at bay.

They feel booth babes create an atmosphere hostility for female attendees and are not in the spirit of an inclusive gaming event. Other cons have also had issues with harassment of booth babes. For as much crap as PAX's creators get (some of it legitimate, they have some problems with not knowing when to shut up), that policy is something they really get right. As a woman, trying to participate in something that presents hot, scantily clad women as a product to entice horny men is pretty alienating and sends a message that this isn't for you.

I already got an OK for all my stuff from the PAX Enforcer's themselves.

My main concern is the molotovs.

They are glass bottles filled with crushed and smoothed glass (think sea glass) chunks about the size of a dime. Then we toss some LED's inside for a lighting effect.

And seeing how the BPD is going to be going through bag/weapon checks...

I'm pretty sure it might go down like this.

It's not grey. Cosplay isn't a loophole. It's held to the same standards as non-cosplay outfits if the person is wearing it in an official capacity. A man being hired as a booth dude is so far out of the realm of possibility that it doesn't even merit thinking about, but they wouldn't have any problem applying the rules in a gender-neutral way and prohibiting companies from putting men in very sexual outfits for booth promotion. Guests don't "volunteer" to cosplay. Either they're con attendees, in which case they can cosplay outfits that meet public decency standards, or they're officially affiliated with the company, and their outfit must adhere to PAX's standards for booth employees.

I really wanted to bring Kid from Chrono Cross, but the girl who was going to be my Riddel had to drop to do Borderlands with the rest of our group. Sadly, I was going to bring Tiny Tina for that but their group is on Friday and the big LoL day is Friday.

I didn't see a cosplay photography thread but this is where I'm going so I may as well as it here. What kind of space and lighting is there at the con? Should I bring my kit zoom lens or just bring my prime lens? For that matter, is the lighting OK or should I lug around my big ass speedlight as well?

To stay on topic, I'm considering pulling an old, very basic cosplay out of the closet for this but I don't know if I'll take it. I'm not too sure how I feel about getting plastered on Saturday night and then taking public transport back across the harbor to the hotel in cosplay.

Get some photos done of yourself like headshots and full body shots in normal clothing. You can use those when contacting people or you can make a comp card. There are templates online for how to create one. You can even use a cosplay photo or two, but be sure to include the normal photos of yourself.

You can either surf your local Craigslist in the events/gig/talent sections when you know con season is approaching. You'll see listings for people trying to get fresh meat for porn, but just ignore it. I've had legitimate gigs for cons come from both actual agency recommendations and CL. We aren't called "booth babes" anymore due to SJW bullshit, but you can look for brand ambassador/promotional model in place of the term. There are also agencies you can Google for who hire men and women in order to advertise for companies. If you know of a company you want to represent at a con or event, you can go out on your own and contact their marketing department. I did that for a comic book publisher I've been a longtime fan of.

You don't have to do just "nerdy" shit for cons. There are conventions and expos for lots of things that require people to fulfill the same role. At the end of the day, people shit on it and lump us in with Nigri, but we aren't like her. I like my pay, I like adding the experience to my resume, and I like having great references.

It was a huge stand off with at least 8 people involved.

I couldn't take a photo, but I know I saw at least a dozen people taking photos.

That's not really a great Rarity, sadly. It's a shame that the fandom never bothers to get creative with the characters and they just use fanart they find online. The character is known for fashion and yet I always see bad corsets, white gowns and boas, or some white clothes. I really wish someone would try something new. Because a lot of the pony cosplayers make that error. Most don't make their own wigs. They purchase them online and those who create those wigs tend to have horns and ears already attached to the wig itself. The horns tend to always be mounted too low or in the very center of the wig. I suppose it's viewed as a detail that nobody would notice and a time saver.

They could always try this method. While the girls do not wear jeweled tiaras, it wouldn't be out of character for Diamond, the Princesses, Rarity, or any of the Crystal Ponies. Even Fleur. To be honest, this looks a lot nicer than the giant, generic dildo looking horns I see hot glued onto these wigs. They're always too high or too low. This could create a beautiful finish as well as a conversation piece.

They could also just do a humanization and not include horns, ears, wings, or a tail.

I can imagine that horn would look really good on a Rarity cosplay in a Gala dress. I don't know how it would work on character's how are "normally" dressed though. It seems to elegant for that kind of clothing.

Also. I feel as though they'd lose their charm of they don't include ears, wings and whatnot. Especially with characters who really depend on it on such traits.

IE, new Twilight.

For others, they could alter the design to fit that character. The circlet method could be fashioned from different, less grandeur materials in order to invoke a certain character's personality. The Rarity girls cosplay the most fashion conscious character, yet what they show up in just lets everyone know that they're fashion challenged and well.. just based their costume off of one of the 9001 carbon copies we see in the fanart. They could use a circlet to hide the horn and make it look less awkward, instead of just putting it on top of the wigs.

I mean.. I've seen people as "Rarity" in just a white t-shirt and yoga pants with an unstyled, purple wig. I've seen the white ballgown or white club dress Rarity too many times to count. You are an aspiring fashionista and designer; Why not mimic a Vivienne Westwood pant suit in white? Why not Audrey Hepburn channeling? Faust did say that her inspiration for Rarity WAS Hepburn, after all. Chanel has a 2007 collection that could suit the character, but you could also use Dior.

It's just an unfortunate thing that I dislike seeing so often when it comes to this particular show. There is so much potential. Sure, you don't need to buy these thousand dollar clothes, but people could get creative and mimic the design. I've seen beautiful creations from the cosplay community. I'd just like to see less Daisy Duke Applejack and less closet Rarity.

Well because it's a show for little girls, of course they would be cheesy.

However, this doesn't mean you can't take the essence of the character and create a great cosplay considering the fact she's a fashionista.

Cheesy gowns and outfits don't translate well into real life, this is why you have so much fanart of her in different outfits and why so many people roll with fanart rather than the official designs.

The character is so easy to play with if you know your fashion, but people decide to pick the feathery stole, the shiny long gown with a low cut and call it a day.

You have to interpret the character and its traits, otherwise you're just being lazy.

I actually dipped on Saturday trucked my ass home this afternoon.

My final verdict on the con? It was shit. Objectively worse than last year with little or nothing for someone with my interests to look into. The price increase from last year was NOT justified with the amount of content on the floor.

The panels were lackluster, the show floor was lacking some of the biggest names in gaming, and there were like no publishers and dev's on the floor.

Indie dev's don't count for me, because I rarely give two shits about the dozens upon dozens of mobile games flooded onto the market by these guys. The last real indie game I was excited for was Mercenary Kings, and frankly, I didn't enjoy it one bit.

Granted, I'm mostly a console gamer. And I can acknowledge the fact that this year was the year for MOBA's all around. Seeing Nigri push whatever newest MOBA is coming out only solidified my suspicions.

Aside from the concerts, there wasn't even a single panel that really blew me away.

I am gravely disappointed. And my friends and I all agree that if we did not cosplay this year, it would have been the worst PAX we've ever been to.

As far as the Cosplay Scene goes, it was great.

Met a lot of cool people and had a lot of fun discussing cosplay with others.

Getting pulled aside by the Naughty Dog developers was especially cool.

I was kind of dissapointed with the variety of cosplays this years. Even though it's a videogame convention, I always have run into dozens of people from TV shows, anime's and cartoons. This time around it felt as if everyone and their dog was doing some sort of league cosplay.

Precisely. It's why the cosplays of the Gala gowns tend to be.. well.. often incredibly silly looking and not that flattering. Especially Rarity's, due to the choice in colors and how it looks like a giant cake. Applejack's looked pretty awful, too. Many also don't choose the Equestria Girls designs for this same reason; The designs are terrible. Especially those shoes they put them all in.

That sucks anon. I am kinda glad now I held off taking a trip to east coast this year. I can understand though not much showing at PAX East because there just aren't many games coming out that have anything to show ATM. Everyone who does the game either comes out next month/soon or is just another sequel that is just not worth standing in a long line for. I'm mostly a console gamer myself and found It was the same for Pax Prime 2013. Sony and Microsoft were just so focused on console launches that there really werent many games showing and the rest were just Moba's and the odd MMO. And then the only games that interested me were two being published by Square-Enix which were shoved aside so they could have 12 demos of Final Fantasy 10 set up. It's hard because of the next gen most companies are holding back. Im hoping Prime has a better turnout after E3 this year. (Would really love Sony to show off more from The Order.) Maybe some new Ips from the bigger publishers are on the way. I really wish CD Projekt would cross the fucking ocean and show us some Witcher. Especially since I am kinda done with Bioware's quest to check off as many diversity/SJW boxes as they can and my need for dark fantasy has been neglected.

I feel like PAX is attracting more and more normalfags, too. Obviously the expo hall was barely navigable being so completely choked with people, but beyond that, there wasn't a ton of cosplay, and most of the cosplay was of super entry-level shit. It's always been like that to some extent but I really felt it this year.

Or, just any white clothes, period. It's a disaster and it shows how lazy you are. I've also noticed how hardly any of them bother with applying makeup despite the fact that the character uses false eyelashes (we see her applying them in season one) and blue eyeshadow.

As a PC gamer, I can totally understand where you're coming from. I had little to no interest in about 90% of the stuff shown this year too; I don't like MOBAs nor do I like generic shootans. The biggest games I saw that got me excited were Civ: Beyond Earth and Watch_Dogs. I did spend a lot of time around Unknown Worlds' booth though because I love NS2, absolutely cannot wait for NS2 Combat, and thought Subnautica looked like it might be the "deep sea" game /v/ has wanted forever. Hotline Miami 2 was every bit as fun as I expected it to be as well. Also, Star Citizen's alpha dogfight module was fun as hell and made me very confident as a backer despite the bugginess (plus I got a photo with Chris Roberts so that was cool too).

At any rate, I totally get what you mean. This year was a PC year, which would've been great, except apparently devs took that to mean "95% MOBA, 5% everything else," so if you're a PC gamer who isn't into the mainstream stuff like Borderlands or Titanfall and doesn't play MOBAs (i.e., me), you ended up feeling kinda bored with most of the stuff on show just like console gamers.

I dunno, maybe people like us are just getting old and out of touch. Who knows. Maybe PAX South will be better for both content and cosplay. I'll try and step up my cosplay game for that one. I went as Blaze from Ace Combat 5 at PAX East this year, which is excruciatingly simple, but I had fun repping one of my favorite series even if only a handful of fellow supernerds recognized me.
