For future reference though, tumblr is a fucking goldmine for cosplays (shit tier and decent alike) to post. Even if the site itself is cancer, there are enough people using it that it's really easy to browse for all of 2 minutes and find at least 10 cosplays to post in a single dump here. I know most posts here come from there, but I always seem to find more that were either skipped over or are brand new.

I'd like to make Ryuuko's kamui senketsu, but I'm having trouble finding fabric that doesn't look shiny, and will give a really tight fit. I dislike all the shiny vinyl Ryuukos I've seen. Probably because it looks more plastic-like than cloth.
Should I be looking for a 4-way stretch fabric or 2-way for a tight fit for the top? Which will be easier to work with?
Also, could anyone suggest specifics on preventing wardrobe malfunctions? I've never worn a costume like this one before

Spandex, I guess? I feel like Wet look spandex would yield good results. It has a sheen to it, but it's not "shiny" like vinyl and since it's stretchy, it should be more forgiving where there are creases and stuff.

On a side note, I'm still considering styling a Ragyo wig after I get a little more confident about money.
I was thinking of getting a short/medium silver wig, wrapping the top half in plastic wrap to keep it clean while spray-dyeing the bottom half, and sewing in optic/LED fibers.
I'm not entirely confident about the last part, though.

Just posted in the old thread, oops.
I was completely convinced to do Satsuki.. until I saw Final Form Ryuuko. I love it and I think I want to cosplay it.
Any ideas for materials on her light panel wings? More the panels themselves, I imagine I'll connect them with wire and edge them a bit closer to each other so it's less apparent. I'll probably experiment with clear plastic a bit though. But the panels themselves, I can't think of anything that would look particularly good.

Have you ever built a cube before? That's what I did with this. These pouches are 5.5 " by 3.25" by 1.5" (you can adjust the depth, I built mine so they could hold things like phone, wallet, DS, etc.)

The material is poplin and the way I went about building them was something like this.

For the front panel it should measure the width and depth of the pocket.
the side panels are your length and depth of the Pocket. and should be the considerably skinnier parts. Then the back is the width and depth of the front PLUS the extra amount you'll use for the over flap. Then you fold on the black lines, stitch the sides together, turn it inside out, and bam. Done!

What I did with mine specifically is I doubled up on material with light interfacing inbetween the pieces so it was a little stronger. If you'd like I can take some snapshots of what it looks like real quick and inside out as well to help give a better visual example.

So basically what you'll be making is this cross like pattern.

-Your top part is your front panel and is width by depth, you can make your pocket as deep as you like, whatever is comfortable for you. Mine are built to hold things like a phone, DS, Wallet, etc.
-The sides are the length by depth. and should the length should be considerably smaller than the width.
-finally you have the back panel which is like the front panel but is longer to include the flap.
-take these four sides and fold em at the black lines, stitch em together, and flip it inside out. Tadaa~ Pouch!

For mine specifically I used Poplin and a layer of interfacing between two layers of the fabric. This gives it a bit more shape without it being a rigid box. Then I fused all my edges so they wouldn't fray inside the pouch. And for the flap, just hook and eyes.

Also for attaching it to your belt, I chose to just stitch on two strips of nylon straps to the back so I could slide them onto my belt. I stitched them on prior to assembling the pouch entirely that way I wouldn't have to fight with my sewing machine and positioning. Hope this helps a lot and if you'd like I can take some pics of the pouches so you can have a better view of how they look inside and out.

Thanks for the guide and naming the fabric. It's such a common fabric but I had no idea what it was called. Just a couple of quick questions; after folding the pieces, how exactly do you stitch the sides together, like, what kind of stitch would you use?

Also do you just use one whole piece of interfacing or a separate piece for each part of the pouch?

Lastly, where did you buy your straps? I'm not quite sure what they're called exactly so I'm having trouble searching for them.

I used a straight stitch. simple stuff. The other thing I tend to do is a triple stitch, (looks like this on the machine:

And I do that to reinforce some seams depending on what I'm making and where it will be on my body.

For the interfacing it's all one solid piece.

The straps are just nylon from Joann's. Basic Backpack strap material, the belt is just a much wider piece and I bought a big ol' buckle to go with it!!

Anon, if ever you do need rigid pouches you can also make an embroidery board skeleton to go inside the pouch that fills it out. But Maguma's suggestion of layering fabric is probably more practical for pouches like this. Some animus/games have really sharp edges on the pouch designs so i figured I'd throw that out there. I tend to like outdoor-type fabrics (nylon blends etc) for tactical type pouches, but really it depends.I have a character I did where the art made it look more leather-y so I used vinyl in that case. The poplin looks really good, wouldn't have thought to use that.

If they need help then they need help. It happens and it's not common. Not everyone walks into a hobby with all the skills needed. Hell I took 3 years of theater craft and watched people who couldn't even do whip stitching and now they can sew full costumes for theater, why? Because people sat down and helped them even if we thought it was the simplest thing.

Honey's Forms aren't that expensive, from their reviews on youtube they're fairly easy to wear and the edges aren't hard to blend with your skin, especially if you're covering your neck. Since transformed Satsuki's outfit covers her neck and the sides of her chest, it will look fine.

The way I'm doing transformed satsuki is something sort of like a nude bra, but without the hook in the middle. Stick that on your chest, a bit of makeup to match skin tone, a bodystocking over everything and now you have no nipples.

Hi! I want to cosplay as Mako, and I am currently trying to find a good wig. My head size is bigger than the average for most Chinese/Japanese short wigs (long ones I can get away with), so out of these three wigs, I was wondering which one to get?

Right now I think I'm getting the cosworx wig in the second color. I find the first cosworx color to be too warm, and the arda wig color to be too dark. However, I would like other opinions on this! Thank you.

So I was going to make a Senketsu t-shirt to wear one day of AN. I was going to wear an eyepatch with it since I'll already have my Big Boss one. Should I just go full out and do a streak of red hair too? It would basically end up being Big Boss in a Senketsu shirt with a red streak of hair on that day. Assuming you're just skinny fat, it's really not that hard to hide it as long as you're handsome.

Depends on the gut size, but if you stand with your shoulders back, back straight, hips forward, it should flatten you out pretty well.
This applies for anything, though. Slouching never looks good.

What do you guys think would be a good material for Mako's 2 star jacket. I was considering suiting fabric because it's based off of Jotaro's design from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and he is wearing a modified male school uniform jacket but I see that a lot of Makos go for a pleather look.

Hello seagulls, I need a little help. I made pieces for transformed Kamui Satsuki's spine/back armor but now I don't know how to attach them. They're made of pink insulation foam carved and covered in paperclay. Pic related.
Debating trying to string them together or just taping them to my back. Needs to be flexible and ive tried an elastic but that shows behind the pieces and isn't stable at all.
I'm going to be making her shoulder armor the same way and need ideas on how to attach something to the inside of the armor so it stays on...

I'd attach them to a strip of something flexible first (thin plastic or something) so you can apply it as one piece and then stick that to yourself with spirit gum/fashion tape/whatever.

Sticking the individual pieces on could work too, but it'd be more time consuming and getting the placement right might be annoying. Also, if they're not connected in any way, one might pop off and you could lose it.

Well, a lot of "ftm" people (especially on tumblr) are often just butch-looking girls. Some don't even intend to transition or get hormone therapy, which is incredibly stupid because they get mad when people don't take them seriously.
A lot of them cosplay girls because they still have feminine features, I'd assume.

The thing with KLK cosplay (IMO) is you have to go all the way with the look. This Satsuki has a great body and the look is getting there, but those pantyhoes and additional fabric just mess up the look. Like that Tsumugu who had some flesh colored briefs under his (bad) cosplay.
