F+F Thread anyone?
I'm getting ready to order my first dress but I kind of want to hear other peoples experiences with them before I bite.

The materials always look crappier and usually shiner in person. (see photo of their 'chemise a la reine' dress) never order a custom size or be prepared to get alterations.

Overall, they're meh? I would rather go for an indie brand with better materials but that's just me.

There was another anon who was posting here sometime last year, she bought that dress in red and tried so, so hard to make it work in lolita but that black area around the collar is a weird semi-transparent mesh that makes any attempt to cover your arms/shoulders look weird as hell. That feature is just way, way too awkward to work into anything nice. I put this coord together for her to try and make it workable but I think it would be very hard to pull off, especially for a beginner.
(I lightened the dress because she said the fabric wasn't anywhere close to the rich jewel tone in the stock image, which is another thing F+F is infamous for).

Not OP, but would a sheer black chiffon blouse with long sleeves work with that dress? It might still look a bit off, but it might give it the appearance of an OP rather than awkward jsk + blouse.

That doesn't look shiny to me? It's just white cotton in natural light.

That said, never order satin from them, stick to cotton items. I actually like their blouses and underskirts as long as it's a style with only cotton lace, and their pettis for custom length means a good tea length petti.

>> No.7456590

>>7456586
It may not be shiny, but the fabric quality does look pretty cheap in the photo compared to what they have on their site

>> No.7456612

Their stuff is pretty damn average. Unlined dresses, shit patterning (hence why custom size is so hit and miss), average fabric, average to below average construction. Their general quality is below reputable taobao brands like Infanta and Dear Celine, but similar to Boguta/whatever they're called now and Dream of Lolita.

>> No.7457050

>>7456325
There was one dress that only one of the colorways didn't look like crappy shiny satin, so I e-mailed them to ask whether that one was made out of a different material. They replied that the stock photo was made from broadcloth, but the dress would be made with satin unless it was requested to be broadcloth. So definitely check out what materials are listed and don't go by the photo.

>> No.7457078

I still have their eBay store favorited from like 2005 or something. I knew I had developed some experience as a lolita when I started looking at their pieces and just feeling like there's always something 'off' about each one. I've never ordered from them, but I think the general consensus is you can spend your money on better quality and fit in other places. It seems like f+f is a magnet for people who are intimidated by bodyline's site and are just starting out, or are on the very large size and want a cheap custom option. All in all I've never seen a f+f main piece in an outfit that I've thought was pulled off very well.

Hi. I want to order the "Fire Balloon" dress in black but few things bother me: first, the length. It is 96cm if the website measurements are correct and I am only 155cm, it will be too long. Also, I love the print of the skirt part but apparently, F+F had the great idea to put the seam at the FRONT of the dress (I saw it in a review, but idk if it is the same for all dresses). So yeah, I don't know what to do. I love this dress for the skirt part and the top one looks cute but I am not sure I will like it IRL as much as I do when I see it on the Internet.

DO NOT GET THIS. I got the lady 70 a few years ago and it's just awful. The little bow in front is flimsy satin ribbon and just attaches to the bodice with a crappy pin. The bodice itself is a shine monster of costumey satin.

The only way you could salvage this is if you tear the top off and just keep the skirt since the print is true to life. Some indie brand (I think) did this, and it was was pretty cool. I'm the same height as you, so you'll need to trim the skirt as well since it's LOONG.

>>7457149
Order it made-to-measure for $5 more and tell them the skirt length you'd like.

But it's a fugly dress regardless. The bodice is cut too low to wear solo for Lolita and it looks terribad with a blouse under. The sleeve construction is very strange, they just attach a puffed sleeve with a horizontal seam, see pix.
And the skirt seam is smack down the front in the stock picture and they don't match up the fabric patterns on their seams at all (on any dresses) so I'm not sure why anyone is surprised.

>> No.7457197

>>7457190
Oh yeah and like the other anon mentioned, dat low cut bodice. I had to readjust it so many times because I felt completely naked next to the other lolitas whenever I bent over.

>> No.7457206

Most is unlined, with serged edges, subpar lace, cheaper thinner fabrics. They are still a cosplay shop and use basic costuming techniques not nicer quality. They don't match fabrics at the seams and there are often other problems. Fairy Twilight's printed panel doesn't match the rest of the skirt fabric, for instance.

I'd place them slightly above most of Bodyline but way below TaoBao indie in both quality and reputation. Not worth the prices, definitely.

It's also very hard to get a good custom fit from them unless you send them a bazillion measurements (more than they ask for) and diagrams. They will use better fabrics on some things, if you request, but there's an up charge for it.

>> No.7457205

Ordered my first dress from here, and a custom skirt. Skirt was fine - good fabric, sizing, shape, although I chose the most ita skirt possible. The dress itself was... alright. It had some dirt on it, and it was about an inch larger than the measurements given. The bow was saftey pinned on. After some adjustments I was able to make it look quite cute. Still not very impressed, though.

I'm the one who bought it actually. I don't have pictures of it worn yet unfortunately (But I can take some if you really want)
Anyways, the fabric is kinda thin but the dress is fully lined, cotton on the bodice and polyester for the skirt. Close-up the fabric has a subtle white floral imprint.
The chiffon only goes around the front half and you'll definitely have wear a white petti under it, any other color would show.
I can't really say much for the fit because honestly it's a bit loose on me even with the corset string pulled tight, but it does have metal grommets for the lacing and I think it's plastic boned. It's really low waisted (though maybe I'm just short) but I think it mentions this.
The one thing that really bugs me on this dress though is that for some reason, the dress is an ivory but they decided to use stark white lace......I think it might have been to matched the white imprint but it's way too white.

That's the thing with F+F, there stuff looks decent at first but there's always that ONE fucking detail that throws everything off ugh.
Overall, definitely not worth the original price. but hey, that other anon sold it for pretty cheap so whatever.

I ordered pic related in custom size and I quite like it, decent quality in my opinion. Of course I might have gotten lucky with the hit and miss other people warn about.

If I wanted to be nitpicky, I'd say that they used a different lace than in the pics provided, the fabric color is darker than in the pic and I have extra ruffles on the top of the cuffs. But none of that really bugs me, I love it nonetheless.

The buttons, lace and trim on the stock pix look pretty cheap and shitty. The folds in the skirt part make the fabric look improperly thin for the type of garment it is and I wasn't sure that part is even lined. I'm dubious it's very good.

You answered your own question, pretty much.

Because compared to TaoBao indie brands they are much lower quality for roughly the same price. Because Bodyline quality for about 3x the price.

Also because when you are paying even these lower-than-brand prices, unexpected things wrong, significant differences from stock photos, cheaper fabric and poor fit in a custom aren't acceptable.

The nice thing about F+F is that you can ask them to change details a lot of the time, along with color/material. Even a lot of taobao these days doesn't allow that. So most of my blouses that aren't brand or taobao are F+F.

>But Bodyline is just as shitty with those things.

Very true, but at 1/3 the price, people are more forgiving of it for the price. For Bodyline prices, you can't get anything better that's still Lolita unless you buy used and even then, despite what people say about 'but you could buy used brand for Bodyline prices', used brand at Bodyline prices is NOT very stylish and often fairly worn out or needs repair, etc. a lot of younger Lolitas can get Bodyline where their mothers won't let them pay $60 for a used dress that needs repair.

Used brand at f+f prices or indie items at that cost are usually pretty good quality. I think that's why.

The detail and fabric changes and custom sizing DO work very well for some people but turn out really shitty for others. It's a gamble.

I'll buy a BL dress cheaply but if paying over $100 already, I'm more likely get used brand or an indie item for f+f prices--again of what I actually like there. I know they have cheaper items but I try to compare apples to apples.
I looked at an embroidered suedette skirt at f+f but for the same price can get a velvet Surface Spell embroidered skirt.

And Bodyline's blouses are all itchy as fuck besides, with F+F's they've never been uncomfortable for me, at least.

Secondhand brand and taobao are better for sure, but after SS fees and the hassle of waiting on an SS, sometimes you just want to grab a few quick, decent blouses.
