Weight loss general!

So /cgl/ AnimeNext is in less than three months and I was wondering: how do you prep for revealing cosplay (or just stay in shape in general)? What diet plans have worked best for you? What exercise regimen do you follow to stay /fit/? Lolitas are welcome to comment too of course; I'm just a skinnyfat with a few extra pounds and I don't know where to start

>> No.7429594

From my doctor, when I started blowing up like a balloon thanks to a shitty birth control:
1200 cal/day
100g carbs max
<40g fat
minimal sugar
Breakfast: A protein and a medium carb meal, eat as soon as you wake up
Snack: around 3-4 hrs later, protein such as a handful of almonds or an oz or two of jerky
Lunch: Low-carb, high protein such as a grilled piece of salmon over a small salad
Snack: fruit or vegetable
Dinner: Minimal carbs. mostly protein
Don't eat past 8pm (or 2-3 hrs before you normally go to bed)

Exercise:
3-4 days a week, weightlifting and cardio (get someone to show you how to properly use the weights/machines)
7 days a week, light to medium cardio, enough to make you sweat for at least 20 mins, preferably 40-60 mins if you can.

This.
Except for the 1200 calories. That's on the dodgey, low side unless you're really small. Should be 10 or 12 times your body weight for weight loss. Remember, if you're actually losing weight you need to keep adjusting.

Do you mind telling me how much weight you lost and how long it took?

Over the past year and a half or so I've gained about 20 pounds because of ~*~emotional issues~*~ and not taking care of myself, and now that I'm finally digging myself out of the hole I look in the mirror and NOPE. I'd like to know realistically how long it'll take before I can bust out the spandex again. Right now I'm 36-31-40" and I'm quite dissatisfied with my waistline.

In my mind, when I think "obese enough to warrant a drastic weight loss plan" I think "200+lbs". Anything else, while still heavy, is probably not going to benefit from suddenly dropping a ton of weight via a drastic diet. Not to mention the more you lose, the harder it gets to lose it. 165cm, 64kg. Trying to lose some of that til I start to look good.
But Im always hungry as fuck. I start getting anxious feelings when Im even a bit hungry and then eat something without thinking. So I haven't been able to lose weight since starting last year. I just have a huge appetite! After exercise I feel like I'm about to faint and collapse, its like I have no hunger stamina or something.

Carbonation is super irritating to the stomach, I would highly recommend avoiding it, same with sugars in general, even if you're trying to gain. Protein would be a much better option, such as peanut butter or other sorts of nuts, or even protien shakes. Gaining doesn't mean unhealthy, it just means taking in more calories than you're burning.

>> No.7429711

>>7429686
I actually wouldn't recommend this. The carbonation will probably upset your stomach even more. Not to mention caffeine is both a laxative and a diuretic so if your have GI issues they're just going to make them worse
Look up what to eat when bulking. Fit might have info on it. It's calorie dense food that's good for building muscle (I.e. gaining weight). Like anon said, peanut butter. Put that shit on toast, bagels, etc. find a good protein powder, make some yummy shakes. I prefer the chocolate kinds.

I'm a 5'5", 155lb pear shape. I'm not really losing weight right now but I'm definitely gaining muscle. I do high intensity cardio for a police prep fitness class once a week and go to the gym at least 2-3 times per week on top of that. My workout schedule varies so I can work around whatever muscle group we target in my fitness course, but I never skip leg day, since that's where I need the most work. I've worked my way up from squatting ~75 to 135 in a few months and I'm really happy. No particular goal costume in mind, just trying to keep up with my classmates for our fitness tests and get more muscly. I'm probably the strongest I've ever been, which is great since I had a chronic illness for a number of years and never worked out consistently until around November of last year.

Hey anon a /fit/izen here

Firstly I calculated your BMR which is 1766 Calories, this is how much you can eat to maintain your weight however that is at a sedentary level of movement

If you exercise 3 - 5 times a week your calorie limit to maintain your size would be 2281, but to lose weight you must expend more than you consume. To lose a healthy pound a week you can cut off 500 calories.

So I would recommend 1781 calories a day. Then to counter act your anxiety over hunger split the meals into small 350 calorie meals (5 a day) so you wont have extended periods of hunger.

Then the next step would be to eat more veges and meats as they are satiating and try and skip simple carbs like soft drink and juices and lollies and sweet pastrys as they are calories dense but also not very filling. Pic related eat that stuff and youll feel great and lose weight

Face it, your stories aren't lining up. You're either lying or exaggerating in an attempt to pretend like you have a serious disorder. No one thinks eating 300 calories a day is healthy, and no one who eats so few calories is going to talk about it outside a ED community.
All you're doing is making light of a serious, sometimes fatal disorder, when the only "disorder" you might have is histrionic personality disorder.
Or you might just be another run of the mill attention whore.

I almost lost a friend to AN so seeing people act like it's cute or funny or "in" to have a disorder like this is pretty shitty.

If you're thinking about eating something you shouldn't, just don't do it. I mean, it's really that simple, the only way calories will enter your body is if your brain gives the go ahead for your hands to move it to your mouth and for your mouth to eat it. There is no such thing as "can't" resist, you either have the mental capacity to make the decision or you don't. Easier said than done? Sure, but that doesn't negate the fact that it's literally a decision 100% in your control. Before people go bullshitting me about mental disorders and physical lack of control over one's actions, it'd be like if you had a mental disorder that made you uncontrollably throw yourself off a cliff; if that's truly the case then you should just resign yourself to your fate of fatness. If you know eating too much will make you fat, and you continue eating too much, you choose to be fat, no way around it. So the issue is you: either you want to be fit or you don't.

Just basically keep eating the low amount you are and keep exercising, try to learn or do energetic dances too (I danced intensely for 30 minutes to an hour every day or two so maybe that's why I lost weight) also I just usually would eat normal food, besides that I really like salad with vinaigrette dressing and eat a lot of oranges.
Also never eat within 1 and a half hours of sleeping, if you do the calories from the food you ate won't be burned off. A lot of people don’t realize this!
I need to up my calories now to stay at this weight but basically do what I was doing, I lost weight without even realizing it.

A successful weight loss program will teach you ways to keep the weight off. Fad diets do nothing but cause people to lose excessive weight quickly, thinking it's successful, then once they've "completed" the diet the go back to their old ways, gain it all back, then turn to another fad diet, raking in more money for the diet industry

Tl;dr learn how to feed yourselves well, and you won't keep yo-yo dieting.

You aren't eating enough, the jogging is fine, but you need resistance training as well.
You need to find a way to eat more.

In generality, the recommendation for eating better is 4-6 times a day.

You will not "tone" without losing bodyfat, and cardio is shit at doing that while sparing muscle. Assuming you're female, you need what little muscle you have as to not cause bone density concerns later and metabolic slowdown.

tldr, eat more often, incorporate gym usage.

Often times, eating too little causes body fat retention.

You don't want to weigh 130, you want to look how you think 130 looks; I'd put money on that.
If you can't go outside to exercise, same advice as above; get a gym membership. Otherwise, you need to do bodyweight workouts in your room.
Also, fix your posture. Sitting at a computer too much would mess it up.

Your biggest issue being vegetarian is going to be lack of protein and creatine; red meat is one of the highest sources of dietary creatine that exists naturally. Therefore, you need to supplement those two.

Fruits are fine, grains are two, but calculate BMR, calculate TDEE with that, and base off of that. Don't listen to your stomach, as your leptin response is deceiving.

Word to the wise for all; if you're trying to lose weight, and gain definition, and look how y'all want to, most of it involves incorporating proper resistance exercises, eating clean, and the amount in proportion to your body and needs/goal, and proper cardio.

If you're talking about >>7429841 which is me, that amount of calories is was what I was told to eat a day to maintain my weight I had at the time and not gain or lose any weight. It sounds like a low amount but it was the healthy amount for me to eat when I wasn't dancing and I never felt hungry really but I never felt bloated or either, it was a good amount.
Now I should eat about 1,600 a day which is what I started doing. So no eating disorder here.
>>7429895
Yeah Jpop dancing is great and burns a lot of calories since you jump and run around so much! Also I eat a lot of canned foods and microwave foods too, you just have to not only eat foods that are like that. Also there aren't any vegetables that you like? I like lettuce and cucumbers a lot and usually just eat them.

Also, I'd stay away from impact (jumping, stomping, etc). Swimming isn't bad, though, either.

Eat at your BMR, or at about 400-700 below your TDEE.

Meet your macros

Ingest lots of protein, moderate fats, low carbs

Watch the fat shed away.

Make sure to do a split and cardio. Muscly lolis are best lolis

Hey let's not lie to ourselves, most 'good' cosplayers have eating disorders and are anorexic. I have a con coming up soon and I am mad fucking fat, I want to lose around 70- 80lbs in about 75 days so how should I do this? Give me some advice ladies, I'm in need.

You think water fasting will do it? or should I juice fast to?

In all actuality, you could lose that simply through a long period of ketosis.

No. Its complete horseshit.
As stated above, calculate BMR, and TDEE, and ensure you do short intense resistance training sessions to at least maintain muscle. You're going to be eating a lot of fats and protein.

If someone wants help, I'll be back on later tomorrow.

Hey PT. I'm 5'9-10, hover around 65-68kg, 27% body fat (measured with callipers) and would like to get down to 20-22%. Is that quite a lot to lose? And how long do you think it would take to achieve if I'm working out 3-4 times a week? I do circuits/resistance training for 30-45 minutes. Should I do more pure cardio?

I eat fairly healthily but I have a sweet tooth and have a tough time keeping my carb macros down. My macros change a lot from day to day so I'm guessing I should try to make my diet more consistent? I'm aiming for 40% carbs, 30% fats and 30% protein for now. Anything that will satiate carb/sugar cravings?

Two words: intermittent fasting. Went down 27 pounds in 9 weeks doing it.

Here's what I did: go to the gym at 10am and do basic strength training with light weights. Fast from 8pm to noon. Then eat essentially whatever so long as calories stay at just below maintenance and protein is at least 0.6g per kg of bodyweight.

Since you aren't digesting any food for a 16 hour period insulin is lowered and causes increased hormone production. This, combined with energy depletion and protein synthesis of working out, causes fat to be burned at an expedited rate and calorie intake goes to muscle strengthening instead of fat storage. This allows fat to be burned even in normally stubborn areas (for me, the belly. Which I never thought I'd get rid of).

It's perfectly safe and won't lead to an eating disorder. In fact, it's not even a diet, since you're eating normally just in different time windows.

You could be retarded and listen to the personaltrainerfag or you could actaully learn about health and fitness and realise losing 80lbs of fat is equivalent to 280,000 calories which if you wanted to lose in 75 days you'd need a caloric deficit of -3733

So I guess enjoy not eating for the next 75 days just drink your water and your multi

So because you think that most 'good' cosplayers have eaten disorders, you're happy to jump on the bandwagon? Think of yourself, but if not that, think of your friends and family. Don't put the people you love through hell because you're willing to sacrifice your own health for a HOBBY. If you want to lose that much weight, do it slowly, and work with an expert. Not only will you not risk your own physical and emotional well-being, chances are it's going to look a lot better, too.

I'm 5"8 and went from 185-ish lbs (didn't dare to look at my weight at that point) to 145 lbs in the last year or so (can't say I always did it in the healthiest way)
My goal weight was 135 lbs, it is now 130, 125 if I can really push it (and also to cushion the obvious gain of weight after getting out of a strict diet)
I went down to 138 lbs, but the problem is I can't stop eating lately. At first, I let myself go for the holidays, but now I'm just really anxious about life and shit and I just can't stop eating my feelings.
>Any tips/tricks, stories or advice for emotional anxious binge eaters?
Getting a bit desperate now. I'm starting to spin that hamster wheel of eating a lot because I'm feeling bad and eating because I'm feeling bad about eating alot.

I want to exercise more, but I physically can't for the few next weeks. Calorie count guilt doesn't work anymore and the only other thing that can soothe my stress/anxiety is shopping and I can't financially right now.

What do, /cgl/, what do.

Hey man, thanks for that. Pretty chuffed you took the time to calculate this. (For the benefit of the doubt, since last WL thread there were a lot in a similar weight/height group with similar goals so your post would be benefitting to more than just myself!)

That seems about right, I eat about 2000-2500 "naturally" since calculating on my time on Sparkpeople, I just felt real damn fucked up once I did their recommended cut off because yeah, there's the faintness and the anxiety. Macro saved and printed.

Anyway, gonna have to browse the /fit/ again, was going to learn some home activities/calisthenics but totally dropped it because of the nearly-gonna-pass-out issue. Would you reckon this is something I'm just gonna learn to lose with more physical activity or is this just to do with diet?

The faint feeling could be a couple of things:

Lack of vitamins
Lack of Water
Lack of food intake based on the work you do (ie you could be doing an insane amount of exercising but saying you did moderate exercise)

So try and attack each individual problem and eventually you'll find it

I want to preface that the idea of weight loss shouldn't be a yay I'm done I can go back to eating poorly. What you want to do is slowly make changes in your day to day routine that will eventually become habit. An example is the first thing I did was completely removed soft drink (Id drink 4 cans a day) then I said only 1 sweet thing a day (i.e. one Mars bar or one donut I had to choose) these changes don't make you go crazy because you haven't cut them your just eating them in moderation.

Also that feel like im gonna pass out feeling, I don't know exactly what it could be but when I first started my weight loss and eventual weight training journey I was unfit as fuck and if I did 30mins of exercise I would feel like I was going to puke so it could just be your body is use to a non active lifestyle so don't jump into a crazy exercise routine (Like 100 sit ups and 100 push ups a day thing) take it slow make small gradual steps do something like 3 sets of failure of push ups burpees squats and sit ups and a light walk then gradual increase of the weeks and you'll eventually feel great. (For an example have a look at pic related for a running program look how light the first weeks are then it gets moderate then intense over the period of weeks and if you feel like a week was/is tough do it again for the next week and you'll adapt. Working out is a battle with yourself and yourself only)

But it could also be a side effect of your diet but from personal experience I have cut on a 2000 cal diet before and still worked out and didn't feel that badly at all.

I just try to avoid sugary and fatty treats, and then I fast during the weekends.
So basically I eat normal food on weekdays, on fridays I might have a chocolate bar with a cup of coffee, and then on saturday and sunday I try to eat very little and instead drink lots of water etc.
I'm losing about a half a kilo (1 pound) per week. I know fasting is kinda unhealthy but I'm only trying to lose a few kilos. I'm 161cm tall and I weigh 54 kilos. Trying to get it down to 50.
