Ok, I didn't receive an order and opened a dispute so I wouldn't lose the purchase protection and my money. The seller says they're looking into it but they're sending me about 5 messages a day asking to cancel the dispute (as it's 'having an effect on their sales'). I feel bad if that's happening but if I close the dispute can I reopen it later? I'm just used to eBay where once you've closed a case you've basically lost your money.

You need to look at what you're buying and cross-check the prices. Things like shipping and stuff. Also think about how long you're going to be waiting for delivery, as well as the time you need to deal with an agent if you're doing Taobao. AliExpress has a lot of free shipping, but it takes time. But on the other hand, it's all in English and easy to understand and you don't have to deal with an agent.

If you have time and are planning on ordering a large number of single-item things (like 20 pairs of tights, etc) I would recommend AliExpress simply because you don't have to go through the time and hassle of picking an agent, waiting for them to buy and receive your items, etc. AliExpress is also good for bulk orders, selling things in one complete package.
Also potentially if you're ordering a large number of little items from different sellers, due to the free shipping that you will likely find.

Large Taobao orders are good when you're ordering a large number of smaller things from the same seller. The smaller (or lightweight) the items, the less your international shipping will be. The larger your order from the same seller, the cheaper their domestic shipping will be.

However, some items are just flat out cheaper to buy overall on Taobao. AliExpress will always(?) be more expensive than Taobao since they're marketing to westerners, but sometimes the hassle and shipping prices can make it the better option. But sometimes, Taobao will just have a better deal overall.

But I wouldn't make a Taobao order unless I was going to make it worth it to cover international shipping. (By buying a lot of things.) Last I checked, I think international shipping started at about $30 to the US. So you'd want to buy items that when you got your total, are WORTH more than total+30. Ie, buying $300 worth of goods for $120 after shipping.

A little repetitive. Hope it can help you make your decision.

Which is inconsiderate when a seller has over 100 different items from 5 different taobao store they have to monitor for Stock. Or even if they were a storefront. That shit is hard to monitor.

I opened a dispute a while ago as I didn't receive an order. The seller has now offered me a $20 refund on my $58 purchase so that 'both of us to bear the loss'.

Yeah, so fuck that. The dispute has been open long enough that it's showing as 'escalated' but how do I actually get someone at Aliexpress to take a look and force a full refund? When I go to the dispute page the only option is to 'View solution' which is the $20 refund and then to either accept it or 'No thanks' which just takes me back to the same dispute page.

Well that took forever. Would have been much faster, but it got held up leaving China for about 3 weeks before I decided to contact the seller.

I find that many of the sellers are good with handling stuff if you just message and ask where your package is and why it's been sitting in a single place for so long.

I ordered another package at the same time, and the shipping never updated after 15 days of it being marked as shipped and giving me a tracking number. After contacting the seller, the package finally showed up a few days later in tracking. But several weeks later, here I am and the package is still in China (after me contacting the seller a few days ago)... only last night was it queued up to be sent out from China (which is where my first package sat for 3 weeks) so I am not optimistic about this delivery.

I think the first one, the shipping got a little botched. But the second one I feel like the blame is on the seller.

I bought a bulk shipment of phone charms. Curious to see if they're terrible bootleg quality, or actually nice. Looking forward to opening them when I have time to go get the package.

Well it's a really old release (like, 2005). So your best bet is either going to Y!japan auctions or mbok and trying to see if someone will put one up for auction. You can also ask on the lolita comm sales. Idk how easy it'll be to find. Not very, probably. Not sure if you know much about lolita but this brand, Mary Magdalene, is pretty coveted for many lolitas, and given how old this dress is there won't be many floating around.

I've noticed a very wide range with no real indication of how to predict it.
One product i bought had a processing time of 3 weeks, or something ridiculous, but it shipped out in 2 days. Another had a week but shipped at the very end of the week.
