So I managed to find the source on these, but I am not paying 450 for a pair of shoes.
Id like to DIY them but Im not sure what materials would be best? Would silicone work for the whipped cream part? What about the chocolate drip and icecream? I've never worked with deco things.. Any advice would be lovely, thanks!

I'm doing embroidery for the first time. Specifically cross stitching.
I've got the aida, I've got the hoops, I've got the needles, I've got the patterns and.... The thread.

The majority of my thread is size 25. But one, the color that I use the most in this pattern, is a size 5.
I bought them not really paying attention, since there are numbers all over the damn label that I don't understand. So I just picked by color.

The 25 I'm using two threads for the cross stitch (I'm on 16 count aida). Is there any way I can still use the size 5? If I used just one strand?
Or should I up the 25 to three threads or more to match it with the thickness of the 5?

I felt so stupid unwinding the 5 and realizing I was just fraying thread. There was no more strands wound around. Just two big threads spiraling around each other, as opposed to the six strands in the size 25.

Did I done fucked up?

I'm really not sure where or how to start on a pattern for this. It's obviously made of a woven fabric(I'm planning on using linen), has a side opening, and is held up by a belt without any apparent belt loops. Maybe the belt is stitched directly to the fabric? I feel like any modern pattern I find for a shape like this will be made for stretch fabric.

Not exactly cosplay related but sewing related - can anybody tell me why my machine is doing this?

The needle will move up and down but will not actually "advance" in sewing if that makes sense. I think it's the bobbin but I'm not actually sure. I'm new to sewing on my own so I'd really like to get this sorted out.

>> No.7407960

>>7407953
It's because your top thread isn't picking up the thread off the bobbin, it really depends on the machine but when this happens to me I either have thread set up the top thread incorrectly, or my tension is fucked up, if you're working with strange materials that can fuck it up too.

>> No.7407961

>>7407949
You're right. I can't be impatient like this.
I'll see if I can get a trip into town around my work schedule. I could probably think of some things that I need to pick up anyway.
Is doing the rest of the colors alright, though? I've heard that you're supposed to put the 'base' color on first and then all the things that are supposed to be on top of that, but maybe if I pushed around the threads a bit you wouldn't be able to tell I did the main color last.

>> No.7407968

>>7407953
Re-thread, re-needle, check your tension, check that you haven't hit your length setting down to zero (sews in place to make a knot, but if you just let it go it will just ball up)

sounds like your feed dogs aren't moving, if what you're saying (the fabric is not being moved under your sewing foot) is what is actually happening.

Though seriously, first thing you should always try is rethreading and putting in a new needle. Not kidding when I say I saw my sewing teacher fix a machine that no one else in the shop could figure out just by putting in a new needle, weird shit happens when needles are blunt or put in incorrectly.

Check and make sure your shuttle is sitting correctly inside the arm as well.

I feel that if I just make a strapless apron, it's not going to sit well, and it will look like shit.

Well. Yes and no. I don't have your swatch, so I can't really say, but it's not going to drape very well and you'll end up with more bulk in the seams than with a garment weight vinyl or leather. Asuka's jumpsuit is pretty stiff anyway, it could save you having to interface the collar as much. Is it the stiffness, texture or colour of the upholstery vinyl that's bothering you?

Also, would you consider using taobao? They have garment weight pleather in a huge range of colours, I could look around for a light metallic blue if you like. For the hat, I would start off with a sun hat so the brim is the right shape, make a base for the cone part out of felt, and then cover the whole thing in your suiting fabric.

You definitely don't want anything rigid as plastic or fiberglass around your neck like that, it will hurt like a bitch. I would go with a fencing breast protector + EVA foam covered in vinyl.

Is it metal? You won't be able to bring it to conventions if it is, even if it's not sharp. I would recommend a grinding wheel attachment on a drill to chip it, and a sprayed-on mixture of hydrogen peroxide, vinegar, and salt to age the metal.

Hey, I have made feathered wings and I have made cellophane wings, but fuzzy wings baffle me. I really want to make these without them looking like cheesy faux fur wings. So regarding a Tsumiki wig, first I'm unsure of whether or not to go with the ahoge (afraid it would be too unstable for it's size) or cat ears (more stable but only happens sometimes in the show).
And then I'm unsure of how to get her hair to be voluminous since it is shown to be fairly poofy. Is that even possible? I was thinking teasing or placing something in it, but I don't have any idea what would actually work.

If you use a thick wire for the ahoge, it'll stand up fairly well. There's a Hetalia curl tutorial on deviantArt (file size is too big to be posted here) that explains it pretty well.

I've cosplayed before, but it was just something that I spent a ton of money on. Nothing I actually put together myself. I should be able to handle this (I'm gonna have it tailored to actually fit me and style the wig, get a useable sword and quality contacts).

I'm also looking to put together a Thresh (League of Legends) and an Uzu Sanageyama (Kill la Kill). I don't want them to be shitty though. I want to take these characters and blow them out of the water with quality and craftsmanship.

First, stop. Pick one of your cosplays, and just work on that.

If you need to sew, practice sewing for a few days. Straight lines, hems, button holes, weird seams, corners, everything you might need.

Once you feel comfortable enough with practice of the things you need to do for your costume, deconstruct it. Figure out exactly every piece, and what you'll need to do to make it. Run this by a friend if at all possible. Run it by the help thread if something seems iffy. Personally, I'd try and "deconstruct" my cosplay a second time, just to make sure I'm not overlooking anything.

Once you do that, buy the materials and make it. But seriously, if you're just starting, focus on one thing at a time, and really take it slow. If you only get a hem done one day because you had to look up how to make it zig zag, that's fine. It now probably looks a lot better than if you just bullrushed into it because you have another cosplay you need to make.

To be honest, if your holding up wings, your going to nee more then adhesiv. Wings catch wind (go figure) and bounce when you walk. Anything you glue it with will weaken from that, even with sweat and oil sealer.

I'm actually looking at those same 2 wigs for Sailor Pluto (has similar length to your character) and honestly, I'm going for the 50" to save myself the headache. Most people I've seen only get the 40" wigs though.

Get a long one for photoshoots if you're keen on accuracy. They're super high maintenance so every movement and bump will cause it to slowly get more and more mussed. I've heard spraying car lube on it before you even wear it helps prevent a lot of that however.

As for colour, the NB looks best, but if it ends up looking like the Demeter NB pic, I'd go for the caramel as it's probably not that yellow unless you're standing in yellow light (which is what the right pic seems like).

Put the tights on and mark where you want the gem stones to go. Make sure whatever you use to do this will leave marks that are considerably smaller than the gem stones themselves.

Get glue that's made for adhering small embellishments to fabric. Get the kind that can be washed after it has set. Craft stores have a few of these.

While you're there, pick up some heavy, thick gauge wire. The plastic coated type would be ideal so as not to snag the tights but if you can make it bend without needing to use two hands it's not going to work. Bare wire will be fine as long as the metal is absolutely smooth (and remains so when bent!) along its length. You can cap the ends off with a bit of wine cork/rubber eraser/tampon(?)/whatever you've got + electrical tape.

Form the wire into a large spring shape by wrapping it around whatever you can find that's sturdy, durable, and about the same size as your leg.

Double- and triple-check that there is nothing that could snag your tights. Folded electrical tape corners included.

Slip your wire spring frame down one side of the tights. Stand it upright so you can get all the way around each time. Keep whatever fabric you aren't working with clipped up and out of the way somehow. If it were me, I'd start at the thigh and work my way down (after doing both thighs I mean), but it won't hurt anything to start at the foot if you prefer.

Anyway this will let you glue the gem stones to only the tights, and in a way that won't send them flying off as soon as the fabric stretches. You'll have to do it in batches though, depending on how much wire you get. Plan on this taking one batch per day; those glues generally suggest allowing 24hrs to cure.

You could also use a duct tape form of your legs instead of wire. There are lots of tutorials on how to make duct tape forms online. You'd just have to be careful when putting on/taking off the tights so that they don't
snag on any raised parts.

Search "contouring" hun.
You'll need at least two more of whatever you currently use for powder, one that's a shade darker and one that's a shade lighter. I think Goss on youtube has a good video up explaining what does what.

>>7416760
The reason for the wire is the negative space. Gluing the embellishments to the tights will glue the tights to the duct tape.

I'd like to cosplay as the Ice King from Adventure Time, for a convention in late April. It seems like a relatively simple cosplay, for my first cosplay. But I am having some trouble figuring out what to do for his crown. I don't want to just have a crappy cardboard crown, and I don't want to just get any old crown, so I'd like to make my own. I'm doing a gender-swap Maka, which is actually really easy, it's just the same outfit with pants instead of a skirt and a short wig. My question is this: For the pants, it'd be a cinch to find black and red plaid pjs at walmart or something, but would the material of the pajamas look weird? Would starching them help? I dunno...

I think your easiest solution is to look for glow stick "wafers" which are plastic disks that fit a tiny glow stick inside, but the light is distributed through the whole disk. Using Worbla would be great for this.
Or if you can't get your hands on Worbla you could try using the craft foam method: sew/glue several layers of the base form together to get the thickness, then carefully iron it on a low heat setting and bend it in shape while it's still hot/warm. It'll stay in that shape after it has cooled down (but you gotta be quick). Then cut out the swirls and glue them on the base. Then paint it etc.
Then you could use a pearl pen to make the rest of the more finer details.

Just be careful when you're cutting out the tattoo to get really close to the edges. It can kill the effect if there's a tattoo with a big shiny clear square around it. Also go over it with some clear powder after it's set to help it blend into the skin better.

I have no advices regarding cameltoe unfortunately. As to what parts are armor and what parts are cloth, I'd say none of it is armor, really. But that the grey parts are definitely somewhat rigid.

All in all, I'd say you'll have a hard time finding a definitive answer, considering the stylized artstyle of the game and its concept arts. So, feel free to put your own spin on what the costume should be.

I'm thinking about possibly basing it off of the halloween air blown fires (http://i01.i.aliimg.com/img/pb/868/059/557/557059868_738.jpg)), or maybe using small lights inside of fur. (http://www.cosplay.com/photo/3062480/)) I would prefer to have it move, but I'm really open to all ideas.

White pleather with the lowest amount of sheen as possible, I've seen way to many kaiba coats that look like trashbags. If you're ordering online for the love of god order swatches and see what they look like in different light. Also pleasepleaseplease don't wire the bottom for the flare effect, add extra fabric and pleats in the back.

One of the best ways to avoid camel toe would be to use a one piece legging pattern like this unitard. This way, there's no seam going up the front middle, just the back and inseams.

I'm trying to make a staff based on these sprites, and I'm drawing a blank on how to build the top of the staff.

I tried drawing how I'm planning to build it on the right, but I'm not sure what materials/methods to use to make it. It's a wood base with a small plastic sphere.

Perhaps like cardboard and use some Bondo on it? I have a full container of Bondo that I'd prefer to use for experience, but I've never used it.

I'd go PVC or wooden dowel for the base, a christmas ornament bulb for the sphere, and paper clay for the part where the sphere rests. But make sure to sand the paperclay or it will look like literal crap.

>> No.7423763

>>7423738
I used to just do acrylic pants, like a mixture between brown, copper and a splash of red (since blood dries alllmost black, but has a brown cast) and mix in a fabric medium. Just kind of mixed the colors until it looked right, and it'll dry a bit darker too. That's for clothing spatter, and I'd put it on the end of a flat brush and hit it against my palm, about a foot away from the clothing to give it a spatter.

can't help you with makeup however

I'm planning to cosplay Princess Kenny from the new South Park game. How would I go about attaching the wig to the hood and getting it to stay in place?

Also, the direction I wanted to go with this cosplay to make it accurate to source was to make it look like a 9 year old boy playing dress-up - so a cheap party wig, slightly ill-fitting dress etc. I'm worried that it might just make it look like a shitty cosplay though. Any opinions?

Could I pull off a MGS3 era Naked Snake/Big Boss cosplay? I know I am kinda young and look even younger, but will it still be recognizeable if I do it well?

I also already have a perectly cut and fitting Olive Drab uniform laying around ( http://images.wikia.com/metalgear/images/0/0c/Olivedrab.jpg ), but I was wondering whether an uniform without camo would even be recognizeable.

>> No.7425097

I think people would know so long as you have enough props to indicate who you are. Perhaps grow out your beard a bit to get that Boss-y look. Hell, maybe even make-up on your eyebrows to make them seem more serious. Face paint if you want to go another step deeper.

Bring a box or some Big Boss prop if you're worried about being recognized (gun, fork/knife, Calorie Mate prop, a snake prop, just something) . I think you can pull it off.

How would I do the boots here? I was thinking about modifying some old chuck taylors, but that seems wrong...

>> No.7426454

Okay, so I'm in a bit of a hitch here;

Anime Expo is coming up soon, and my cosplay is seeming more and more unacceptable (as in simplicity) the closer it gets. Let me state two things before I begin:

1) I will be cosplaying as Kojou from Strike the Blood
2) I make lots of complicated props and projects for fun, so experience/tools/materials/etc won't be a problem for building this.
Sidenote: etsy.com/shop/keancraftworks

Now, to the point. I was wondering if it's possible, and how, to create a prop that would recreate the process of Kojou summoning a familiar.

What are the suggestions on how I am to make such a prop?

I have the options of variable EL wire, LEDs, and every other lighting source possible. If I finish it I time I can add more, but this is my main concern. Also, my plan is to have it so it turns on when I create a fist. I want to make this as neat as possible.

Help me out here guys!
