we were talking about this in the previous thread. basically a scammer can still cheat you if they want to in a trade, paypal or no paypal.

>> No.7412717

>>7412713
That's not how paypal claims work in my experience. if the seller has tracking, signed delivery, and insurance, then there is proof that the item was received via the tracking updates. If the buyer then says 'item not as described' they have to send the item back before a refund has to be issued. Using tracking, signed delivery, etc.

ok I found this

https://www.paypal-community.com/t5/Disputes-and-claims-Archive/Seller-sent-me-an-empty-box/td-p/198322

Also, I would think, if they ship YOU an empty box, then you can easily do the same to them 'item not as described' and ship back the empty box. If they ship you and empty box saying 'item not as described' but only ship a box back, I believe you can show the weight of the box to paypal to show it was shipped back empty, instead of with your item in it. Or, I guess, you could do what the buyer in that thread was told to do and file a police report.

Or, go through a credit card for the entire transaction and file a charge back as fraud.

It's pretty clear from that thread that such a scam would work fairly well... I mean, not a lot of people, sadly, are actually willing to go through the trouble of police reports, etc even when they're out money. And PP are really not willing to give benefit of the doubt in this case.

They probably would be especially damning if they discovered their service was being used as a failsafe for an item trade that would be refunded anyway, not an actual transaction. I don't know, I just don't see the money-exchange method being any safer.

What you could probably do that's mildly safer or at least less complicated is agree to ship on the same day, and if one party doesn't hold their end of the bargain to prove they shipped that-day, file an interception of package claim with the mail service to have your dress sent back to you.

Well when you file your claim you shouldn't be stupid enough to say "this was a dress trade," tell them you BOUGHT the dress from the girl who didn't send out. And when they ask why you sent the girl an invoice for the same amount of money, tell them that this girl BOUGHT something from you and that's a separate transaction.

I am soooo fucking glad this is being discussed. I haven't sold anything on the Internet in years, and I've been afraid to sell or trade anything since PayPal has really started to side with buyers all the time. I have tons of lolita items that don't suit me that I want to sell, but only a few things stand in my way- laziness, lack of seller feedback since I've been hoarding, and the ultimate fear of a scanner cunt ripping me off.

What are they going to point out though? Even if the paypal clerk sat down and understood the whole story, the fact is that two invoices were sent, one has a tracking number to show the sale was fulfilled, and the other doesn't. So far as claims cases go, it looks pretty cut and dry that one seller didn't send anything, and so the claim should go towards the buyer.

>>7412813
Thousands of positive feedback is hard to build up, usually those that flip do so because life hands them a mountain of shit and they completely lose control so much so that they can't handle sending out a dress.

Don't forget that the party that's out their money will definitely post on egl, if not the sales comm, because while it might be hard to go file an international police report, it's easy to make a post on livejournal, paypal screencaps are easy to take to prove that things happened.

No dress or doll is really worth burning thousands of positive feedback. This kind of scam is more likely to happen if the girl has nothing to lose, ie- a sock puppet account with zero or no feedback.

you have a point and i agree with you. however, for me, i don't care what's the reason i'm being shortchanged in a transaction - whether the seller did it with intent, or messed everything up on her end because Life Issues - I don't care, I just don't want all these troublesome affairs. This has absolutely nothing to do with the patriarchy, and everything to do with her looking miserable in her photos.

(This is going to be kinda long, apologies in advance.)

Take what you have and sort it into theme(s) and pick out pieces that don't really fit in anywhere. From there remove pieces that you don't wear or don't see yourself wearing (use questions like; does it fit right? do I look good in this colour? is the fabric suitable for my climate?) Now look at how your pieces fit within your wardrobe. Anything that doesn't match at least x amount of other items can be put into the sale pile. After all of this take all of your sale items and put them away, out of sight. If you miss any of these sale pieces and wish to have them back then you should perhaps rethink selling them, if not then they should all be good to go.

From this point look at how your themes work together. It may not be necessary to have just one theme in your wardrobe, you could use one broader one or pick 2 or so that work well together (the latter will really help add some variety to your outfits.)

Now look at the colours in your wardrobe, do they work well together? If so then you're off to a great start, if not you may have to come up with a more specific colour palette for your wardrobe (normally this is something you'd do first up as a beginner but since you're already somewhat established we'll have to work backwards.)

Personally, I centered my wardrobe around the colours brown and pink, but I've since been expanding my wardrobe by adding in reds and blues. Try to pick colours that connect with the theme of your wardrobe, for me brown was an obvious choice since I own lots of chocolate themed pieces.

>> No.7414140

>>7414138
2/2

Now that you've re-shuffled your wardrobe you may start to notice holes in it. I found that I needed an extra blouse here and there in order to make more outfits. In the end what I did was make a list of all items I needed and ranked them in order of most usefulness. Pieces that matched the most amount of stuff in my wardrobe were ranked higher and were the first things I bought. Eventually I worked down the list and even added to it as more coord ideas came to mind.

After all of this you should have clearer idea of the themes and colour palette of your wardrobe. I know some people who stick religiously to it and others who go all over the place. Honestly, the latter can make building coordinates quite hard and can also be quite costly. Personally, I prefer sticking to a general guide since it's pretty good on my wallet and also makes getting dressed a lot easier. Also, when items pop up for sale I can make a pretty quick decision as to whether or not I'll be able to coordinate it with stuff straight out of my closet.

Sorry for the rambling and best of luck to you!

Spreading My Wings: Behind The Bows???

Mar. 5th, 2014 at 4:03 PM

Helllo there, fellow fuzzy baby bats! Well, since this is my first post here, I want to make somethings clear.

1st- This journal won't only have as an topic lolita/gothic fashion because I find really annoying to post only about one thing. I enjoy various things, so you might be just scrolling here in the future and find something totally different from some "normal" posts. Just DEAL WITH IT.
2nd- I use the therm "Spreading Wings" or "To Spread Wings" for revealing one's opinion. Because I'm a bat. And that's how bats speak. It's bat-talk.

So my 1st "Spreading My Wings" will be about something that I saw yesterday here and that reaaaallly annoyed me. There is this Live Journal community called Behind The Bows, once called Lolita Secrets. I was expecting something really fun, like...REAL Lolita secrets! Like when you buy kawaii heart-shaped handbags from children fashion stores. But what I saw there was a TRUE SHAME for the entire lolita community!

CWBQe74
(Oldschool is fucking awesome, and is the traditional Lolita. Show some RESPECT for it!)

These are only examples of things they post. Now I really don't want to bash the journal itself, but yes the users who post this stuff.

At the same time, I was surprised for seeing posivite things such as this:

But this image above is an isolated case. Seriously. Come on guys! Lolitas should be united! We should have every single day more followers of Lolita so we can conquer the world so we can rule it and make everything motherfucking kawaii create a strong community and make it more popular! (Stop being such a hipster). But then what happens? THIS:

Dear Lolita Community, please stay strong and kind. We don't need brand whores. We need lots of yen loyal and friendly followers. Just get a hold of your pettis and stop being like this.

Sincerely, a Gothic Lolita.

Well... I actually don't like labels, but I use them to short-define my VARIOUS personalities. I'm a gothic lolita, rocker, goth (even though I don't like this therm due to its misunderstandings), otaku/cosplayer, nerd/gamer and a complete freak when it comes to literature.

And I'm a baby bat. Not like a goth-community-status baby bat. I'm a real baby bat. You actually can't see it, but I have bat wings and I sleep upside down while looking incredibly kawaii. I'm just saying that you never said a motherfucking cute baby bat and me on the same place, so... e.e

Oh my poor naive anon, yes they can and they will. I've seen all-out wars on tumblr when some derp posts that Bodyline is SUPERIOR to brand quality (which they've never experienced in person) and that anyone who buys brand is thoroughly retarded.

The itas and noobs will always surprise you with the different stupid things that can come out of their mouths.

She keeps saying that anything from a non-Japanese brand is a rip off of burando. I'm a bit of a brand snob (as in I have a preference for brand, but that includes decent indie brands) but this is ridiculous. She said that the Lolita Lady's Room print by Haenuli looked like a rip off of AatP's Marionette in My Closet Room. They look nothing alike apart from the general theme. There are plenty of dresses with similar prints. If anything, they're both ripping off Meta's Room print. But of course she doesn't know about that because she got into lolita in 2011 or something and that print came out 6 or so years ago (just looked it up, it was indeed 6 years ago - I seem to have an odd knack of guessing the exact year pieces came out).

I have heard of these retarded tumblr itas, but I don't venture onto tumblr so i've never seen it for myself. I mean, some of BL's stuff is decent quality, but to say it's above brand? Come on girls, aint nothing wrong with lesser quality garments, so long as they're still acceptable. My immediate thought is that they know their BL is inferior quality, and they can't accept that. Then again, we've got some crazy bitch saying she's a kawaii goth bat, so anything goes.

I know bitches have bummed Oo Jia and DoL before, saying people are stupid to pay for brand when they can get the same thing for less. Bitch, your fucking Twilight aint the same as my Orwell.

The problem is newbie people think that "quality" means "resistant to damage" or "zipper doesn't break the first time I try it on" and while that's part of it, it also encompasses the quality of the design, craftsmanship, fabric, and detailing. Bodyline is perfectly wearable and often cute, but brand items have so much attention to detail. Many of IW's simple non-print items for example use custom lace, buttons, and even lining with little "IW" logos embossed into it. You'll never see that level of detail and customization from BL. And BL rarely creates original designs. Most of the dress cuts are very basic, or watered-down imitations of brand dresses or even anime outfits.

Copying and pasting this from the old thread, didn't realize there was a new one until I already posted it...

I really love the look of rocking horse shoes, but although I'm not tall, I'm not exactly short either (5'6").

I'm a sweet lolita and I just think adding 3" to my height wouldn't look good with sweet, I would then be 5'9 and it wouldn't look as cutesy if I was that tall (in my opinion)

I'm not trying to offend anyone taller, it's just my own insecurity and concerning myself only, I've always wanted to be shorter... what do you guys think, is 5'6" + 3" with rocking horse shoes too tall for sweet lolita? (I can see it working for other styles, though)

Should I just get over myself and try it out anyway?

Neutering and spaying prevent several types of cancer and babies, and a long list of other mental and personality problems. Declawing prevents a cat from walking correctly, having any natural defense, and othet things. Often a nail or two grows back from the severed bone stump causing complications later in life. Declawed cats are prone to wounds of the feet, and infections of the stumos throughout their lives... unlike spay and neuter surgeries. Also because if havung to relearn how to walk on 50% of their feet they are prone to hip and joint problems, and in general live shorter and unhealthier lives.

I'm so sorry about your dress, have you washed it at all? Anyone else live in your house? I have a chiffon dress that has snags and runs in it from both the fabric being delicate and my stupid old maid machine washing it.

It's probably best to keep a cat free room/closet, use citrus sprays or bitter apple sprays in the area or on the floor to deter them from it, and lift them out of the area. My cats know that they're not supposed to go in there and usually stay out, keeping a closed door also helps. I have 6 cats and they do like to claw and swat at my waist ties and dresses, I've gotten a couple snags from them, but keeping their claws clipped and my dresses away usually prevents this. You don't seem angry at your cat, so that's good, just repeating what other anons have said so vehemently and I'm sure you know; declawing is bad. Also to the other anon, neutering is better for the cats health in the long run, helps them get along with other cats, and decreases aggression in general. We also have enough stray dogs/cats in the world so it's always good to neuter.

You permanently damage your cats fine tuned gait. Don't want your cat clawing your stuff? Work with your pet. There are numerous behavioural exercises you can do to stop them clawing stuff. Buy a scratching post, buy those fucking claw covers, but do not declaw your cat. You're not just removing the claw, but part of the toe. Cats walk on their toe, so you alter their gait. This can have serious long term side effects, on top of negative behavioural changes.

The only upside the declawing is that it stops your cat clawing your stuff. It's the lazy man's solution to a problem that can be solved by being proactive.

It has being scientifically proven that spay/neuter reduces the risk of certain cancers.

>they won't have anything to be destructive with.

How about their teeth? And the vet bill for the crippled joints?

>Btw, a forced vasectomy would be pretty fucking inhumane.

This analogy is retarded. Animals do not give a shit about being desexed, they don't even notice. For it to be inhumane, it would have negatively effect them mentally or physically, which it doesn't. What is inhumane is causing suffering through negligence, which is what happens when dumb arse pet owners let their pets breed willy-nilly. So many animals are born on the streets or left to rot in shelters because of the over population. Unlike with people though, we can do something about it.

>>7416571

>cutting an animal's fucking balls off or performing painful, invasive surgery on the females

All you do is perform a tiny incision in the scrotum and remove the testis. A good vet can do it without any blood. As for spays. Again, tiny incision, and there's no pain. Desexing has been proven to reduce the risk of cancers, and if you let your pet out it is responsible. The amount of unwanted puppies and kittens I have put down, born to unsexed pets is ridiculous.

>cutting the claws off by surgical methods

It's frightening, just how misinformed you are. You're not just removing the claw, you're removing part of the toe bones with it. Cats walk on their toes, so you end up fucking their gait up. A fucked up gait means fucked up joints. Think of the argument about how high heels fucks a woman's legs up. It's been proven that declawing fucks cats up. There's a reason a fuckton of countries have banned it.

This is the probably the biggest run. You can see it doesn't just go through the print. In fact, most of the runs are just through parts of the fabric. And it's on the front and back of the skirt.

I had it sandwiched between my Le Cadre du Chat and a normalfag dress, but nothing with spikes or beads or embellishments.

At first I thought I might be able to steam the runs in the plain black fabric parts, but when I saw it through the print, I knew it was fucked.

I know I could sell it for some, but I thought you know, sought after print, in never worn condition, etc, could catch a pretty good price.

Oh well, I guess I might just wear it now. The runs aren't really noticeable if you just wear it normally, but they're bad enough to severely hurt the resale for a community as picky as lolita.

As for the stuff about the declawing that has now been deleted, I'll just say that it isn't about one dress. It's several issues over time, and I've tried alternatives. I even went through hell to put caps on him, and he hated them so much that I would find whole claws he ripped out. I've always been pretty against declawing him actually, even when my SO insisted on it. I can dream about doing it though, but he's already so traumatized from being neutered (he hid under the bed for two days, pissing himself after that) that I really can't afford to make him afraid of vets even more than he is now. And that's the end of that issue.

Anon, as a veterinary student I would advise you not to get him declawed. The anatomical and psychological issues he'll have down the line will be distressing for both of you, and costly in further vet bills the long run. People that say there's no bad side effects are lying, and that includes vets.

As much as it hurts, if you've tried everything including behavioural exercises, the kindest thing you can do is rehome him. Look up the negatives of declawing, and you'll understand why it's classed as animal cruelty in many countries.

I was venting, and I never have written that I'm actually going to do it? I even said I was just dreaming about doing it, but I don't want him to associate the vet with even more trauma since his being neutered was a nightmare.

If this dress was actually ruined by him, which I have my doubts about anyway, it would be the first time it's been him messing with clothes. That is part of what makes this so surprising to me.

The real issues are furniture (which to be honest, I don't care about that much. It's not that noticeable and he uses his scratching post 99% of the time), his anxiety when I leave (I will never be able to have a house with carpet at the front door. He's extremely clingy to me, and when I leave, he stands at the door and cries. At my old house he would try to dig under the door to get to me every time I left, and it ruined the carpet), and his aggressive behavior. I don't know how to fix his aggression. He is already neutured. He was not very affectionate as a kitten, much more hyper and aggressive than other cats I had, but I don't think that's the main issue. My ex was psycho and would come up and smack the cat whenever I'd pet him because he was jealous that the cat liked me better. He'd also play with the cat by wrestling with him, and he'd fucking squeeze the cat's paw or start to crush him with his body weight until the cat would cry in pain. So now I have a grown ass cat that thinks it's 100% appropriate to bite and scratch the fuck out of people for play time. Vet said it's extremely hard behavior to unlearn. Inb4 use other toys. He has so many damn toys.

>and he hated them so much that I would find whole claws he ripped out
I'm saying this in hopes that it will make you feel better about the caps, but their claws naturally shed layers, like an onion. If you do not clip your cat's claws regularly and you cap them so the cat cannot do it on it's own, they get thick and gross. The caps naturally fall off with the nail layers, or are chewn off with nail layers, or the nail just grows through them and sticks out the end. So unless you saw a bloody disgusting cat finger on your floor, (because the reason you have to sever the digit through the center to declaw is because the nail is a part of the finger's actual bone,) you did not do anything cruel. They ARE meant to be temporary and you have to replace them when they are outgrown... you can't just put them on once and expect them to be a permanent cure for whatever you have against your cat being a cat.

Vet anon again. I know you said you you weren't going to do it to him, but you gave me the impression that it's not something you personally disagree with in general, and that worried me. You said your reasoning not to get it done is based on not wanting to traumatise him further, which could be interpreted as openness to the procedure if circumstances were different. As a vet, i'm obliged by my oath to point out the cruelty inherent in declawing. it wasn't a personal attack.

Anyway, i'm not trying to attack you, just trying to give some advice for kitty's welfare. I can understand the frustration in dealing with aggressive cats. and it sounds like the way your ex acted has exasperated the problem. I would highly suggest talking to a cat behaviourist. Your vet might be able to point you in the right direction. Cats are harder to rehabilitate then dogs, but it can be done. Trust me when I say that a decent behaviourist is worth their weight in gold.

Quick general message to all anons in general: Don't get your cat declawed to deal with aggression. It only makes the cat more aggressive, only this time the only things they can use are their teeth. Cat bites are fucking shit.

The other issue I had with the feedback submission page is that it lists all of your pending feedback at once while filling out the form. When you click leave feedback, you fill out the form without any failsafe/'are you sure?' popup/page to make sure you're leaving feedback for the right item. I could see it being very easy to mix up which feedback you're adding. I think it should either take you to a new page that shows that you're leaving feedback for the right item (like ebay), or the feedback form should pop up beneath the specific listing you're leaving for, like say the lj reply to comment form.

There's just a few areas of the site that could use a few more changes to make the UI more intuitive, imo.

At this point in the school year, most people would be 18 or 19.

I was one of the youngest kids in my class, my birthday being in May, but most people would have turned 18 by March.

And, sure, juniors can go to prom, but it's generally a thing for the seniors, from my experience. The juniors just don't want to spend that much money twice, so a lot of people wait and go senior year.

Not to mention you never know if someone was held back a year.

But basically:
Born in September would typically leave you a year older than your classmates, if you're after the kindergarten start cut-off.

BornOctober - April, you'd be 18 before prom, as it usually occurs in May. If you were born October - March, they'd be 18 by now.

Born June - August, you're unfortunate and the youngest people in your class, and will turn 18 after graduation (unless it's the beginning of June)

Just trying to figure out how that is done so I can make my art better and maybe use some old stock images at the same time.

Pic related - Pretty sure they used that method on these donuts. Wallpaper I made in 1920x1080 to say thank you in advance!

Unless it's something really offensive like what >>7420738 mentioned, and unless it's really biblically inaccurate or disrespectful, I really don't see a huge problem. A lot of people aren't Christian but still find traditional Christian art (like stained glass windows) to be beautiful, and it's okay if they like it enough to wear it on something. They're listed as joint owners for the berriecute account.

Makes sense that berriecute might be a purely sales account shared amongst three girls, and it's not like alyssiumbaby hid the fact, since she used the berrie-cute photobucket account for her own sales.

There's plenty of 'appropriation' of religion in the west. You regularly see the cross and (to a lesser extent) pentagram used as a fashion accessory for jewellery and on designs for clothes.

You want to know the biggest offender of appropriating? Christians. Their whole religion is based on stories from myth and other religions, that existed long before the bible in different forms. They've just been altered them to have a Christian spin on things.

Then there's the whole stealing Christmas from the pagens. You think some Japanese chick wearing a cross is offensive? What about some Christians stealing your holiday and rebranding it. Oh, and you better like this new holiday, or we'll kill you.

Religion has treated people like absolute shit over the years, they can deal with some minor 'appropriation'.

Wait, so you're getting pissed about people wearing a cross, yet slagging off Pagens? I don't think you get to rant on about religious appropriation, whilst shitting all over all a major religion. A religion that is still fatally persecuted to this day, might I add.

Lmao, do you really think the cross, when used for fashion in the west, is always done with religious undertones? The crosses you see on your Primark leggings, your topshop skirt and your claire's necklace are not doing so to convey a religious undertone. The desired undertone for most use of the cross in casual western use is a gothic one. Yeah, the majority of the west is Christian, but the majority of casual wearing of the cross isn't religious. If you're going to get your bloomers in a twist about appropriation, you need to address the rampant use of the cross in a non religious context in the west too.

As someone above said though, most christians don't care about their imagery getting used casually.
