I hate that ever since taobao became the "thing" to use for cosplay, NO ONE makes cosplays anymore. People appreciate makeup and looks more than cosplay construction these days.
I love seeing progress pictures and the like, but now it's all just makeup and wig tests.

Commissioned a girl I was friends with 3 years ago to make a custom school uniform for me. We drafted up a really cute design, she took my measurements, I paid her, everything seemed to be going well... until it was only a few days before I needed the thing, so I ask her where is it, what's going on? She says it's done and to meet up with her, so I did, and she hands me... a too-big thrift store blouse with the details clumsily hand-sewn on, loose threads fucking everywhere, and a too-short lump of blue fabric, no pleats or nothing, with a shoddy small zipper slapped onto the back. I threw it out as soon as I got home, ended up wearing a tartan skirt and button-up blouse I found in my closet to the event, and basically stopped speaking to her after that.

Fast forward to last night, when I found the "fan page" she opened on Facebook 7 months ago, where she's listed as a "pop singer, poet, entrepreneur, designer, actress, and socialite" and has over 1000 "likes". But most posts on her page don't have any more than 2-3 likes, and the most liked post had 9. She is now trying to get invited to cons and music festivals, using her page of obviously bought likes as "proof" that she's famous and talented. I can't help but keep thinking about that disgusting excuse for a uniform she handed me 3 years ago, plus the fact that she works a basic-ass day job selling clothes in the local Chinatown, and yet she thinks she's really all those things and a bag of chips. That's what grinds my gears.

Ive met two Japanese who studied abroad, one who studied in Germany and the other in france and theyre pretty annoyingly weird. I guess in a way its like being a reverse weeaboo. In some cases, it's kind of not theirs either. At least, with the older generations. My boyfriend's grandmother was a smoker for over 60 years because when she was young, her doctor told her that she had a nervous disorder and that she should take up smoking to calm down (her husband was ex-army and had PTSD before they really knew what that meant; he was abusive in a number of ways, her guardians before she married him at 16 were also abusive; most of her life was hell, tbqh). By the time they figured out that cigarettes were bad for you, she was fully hooked and didn't have a chance to quit.

They tried a lot of ways to get her to quit, but that long-term exposure really fucked her. Nicotine patches took her skin off or left rashes, the gum caused her mouth and throat to swell, and cold turkey turned her into a withdrawal-ridden, pain-racked mess.

So young smokers can get fucked, but I can't help but pity people like her who thought they were actually improving their lives because science and medicine got it wrong.
