She's feeling her age creep up

I found out about lolita when I was around 14, and I started wearing it when I was 16 or so. I am now 26 and have been going through an "am I too old for lolita" crisis, so it was nice to hear that.

I'm almost 21 and was feeling really old about having been into lolita for 8 years but it's nice being able to actually buy stuff regularly now. I think it doesn't matter how old you are, it's about how you wear your clothes. Although OTT sweet doesn't look very good on anyone unless you have a youthful and cute face, regardless of age. Shelby is about 10 years older than me and looks way better in OTT sweet than I ever would.

I think it's great for woman that someone established and well known in the Lolita world has publicly stated the age range as being as high as 40. Hopefully it makes woman who are in their 30's and 40's more comfortable with wearing the fashion.

I think that actually at 18 to 21 years old, you're more likely to have a job and you can afford actually nice lolita things so that's a good starting age? I've been getting small strange breakouts recently from my JuJu's Aquamoist face cream. Like small bumps that don't hurt or pop but are red and stiff the size of a mole. I switched to a sample of Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream and it went right away. I love it, going to buy a full-sized tub next time. Looking through Fruits or lolita street snaps where they interview the person and ask their age, I notice only 1 or 2 will admit to being over 23. Most are 16-20. It's always irked me. I honestly think many are lying, and the rest just won't admit being over 25. I wish the old crowd would just step out and be proud.

Even at 21 when I just started getting into j fashion, I felt too old because of going through magazines like this. It was ridiculous, and I'm glad I got over it, but it took a long time to accept I was already "too old" for the cute clothes I wanted to wear.

I'm 32 now, still not giving a shit and rocking whatever I want.

It makes sense. Like what other people said, 20-40 is when you have a job and don't usually have kids/a family or a mortgage. That equals lots of spending money, without parents really being able to stop you support or money-wise. I think only 10 people in my local community are under 21, with the other 50-60 being average late twenties.

I don't see a lot of ageist behavior to young or older in Lolita unless the person in question is acting inappropriately. It's not really culturally sound to be immature at any age at all, so the concept of young and rebellious is really toned down or not even there at all. People recapturing themselves at any age though street fashion or cosplay is much more the standard since it's so looked down upon in the first place. Not to mention, anyone under age 20 in Japan is not going to have any time or money to do anything and even if they did parental approval for this sort of thing is non-existent.

We don't have a lot of older lolitas right now, since lolita wasn't super popular when they were young. Especially not in the western world.
As we age, it's not like we'll hit a point where you magically sprout a velour tracksuit from our skins. People wear aesthetics that they like and make it appropriate for their age.
The old guy with his pants up to his nipples, right? He wears his pants like that because when he was young, pants sat at your natural waist. So when he got a gut, he has to pull it up and over. He doesn't think "I'm an old man therefor I must wear my nipple-pants, it is fate." He has a preferred aesthetic he's trying to recreate.

Girls now 15-27 who dress lolita, that is the aesthetic that they prefer. It only makes sense that they'd keep wearing it and adapt it as they get older.

That makes sense to me, when I went to Japan I saw quite a few older ladies - mid-30s to 40s as an estimation, though it's hard to tell sometimes - hanging out in the department stores on the levels with lolita brands, some were wearing things we usually attribute to loli (MILK bags, teaparties, etc.).
