Hey hey folks.

Sorry it took me so long. I had even more family tragedy happen, and just had to take a step back from anything to do with performing or clowning for a while. Im ok now, and I owe some folks some prizes!

I'll have sent everyone an email by the time you read this, so i'll ship out prizes as soon as I get confirmations and addresses. To my winners: I'll also ask permission to post your winning makeup in the thread, so don't be shy!

Best male makeup: Rodrigo D "Teedles the clown". I have no idea where he found that shirt, but it is gaudy and I want it.

Best female makeup: Marlene N for her unnamed mime. Absolutely wonderful forced shading, which really highlighted your expressions. She damn near perfected the sad smile with that makeup.

Best story/memory/other: Maria W for the saddest clown puppy. The puppy made the two other judges d'aww, and was almost disqualified for unfair advantage.

And of course, Super-Gropey funtime mystery box winner: Clock, for her simple, yet expressive makeup. We felt like it really looked natural, really getting the difference between "clown makeup" and "clown face".

To give a bit of background on the selection of the winners, it was done by a panel of three judges: A drag queen/clown named Ms. Bidet, a lady clown named Rosemary Sweets and myself.

Judging was based off of three major points
*Quality of application
*Expression and personality
*Naturalness of wear

Bonus points were given for
*Costume/props
*Presentation of learned skills (video of juggling, photo with a balloon animal etc)
*Novelty and creativeness

I am sure some people wont agree with out decisions. Sucks to be you if you do! Make am entry for the next time I do this, and show us what you got.

First thing is first, the grand-prize Super-Gropey funtime mystery box goes to clock. Though and incredibly simple face, she really nailed the concept of "face" over "makeup". She has characterful expressions that really make use of her cheeks and eyes. We also appreciated the eveness of the makeup.

The "Other" catagory was legitimately the hardest one. We got tons of cool entries, including multiple BJDs, story/photo memories and one song that was composed on a ukelele about a clown trying to get laid (its hilarious, and I am debating sending a prize his way on principle).

We had a freaking 30 minute round table over if the winning entry was cheating or not. The answer was neither "yes" or "no", but merely "puppy!".

Sad. Clown. Puppy.

24 entries. Rules were simple: Three categories. Best male clown makeup. Best female clown makeup. Best circus related memory/story or "other" (bonus points for pictures or souvenirs). You could make two submissions, of any combination. Male face + story, two different female faces, etc etc.

No photoshop. Any submission with a hint of photoshopping is discarded, and all other entries of the poster disqualified.

17 female, 5 other (including stories, dolls, sad puppy and the ukelele song) and 2 males.

As for the skills, i'd heavily stress traditional circus, if not clowning skills, and be more impressed is someone were to have learned the skill within the entry time frame. My male winningentrant researched, made and learned to use a rolla-bolla, documenting every step, for example.

Regularly using it for complete face and neck coverage almost every other week, I have had the same small can of Ben nye for 2 years.

I do not suggest greasepaint for limbs though. It doesn't breath, and no matter how well it is set, it still is not made for that much incidental contact.

My friends and I swear by Mehron's Paradise Makeup AQ for body painting! I've personally seen/used gray, red, and purple used and with proper powdering it doesn't smudge or smear at all.

It's like $12 for the professional size, a little goes a long way because it's water-activated. Will last for a few applications. We ordered straight off the official Mehron site.

Sorry for no example picture, I'm at work, but I'll try and post one later!

Mostly it's just shitty picture quality on her side since the photo itself was blurry. (That and the hotel is VERY orange with its awful carpets and lighting.)

You do have to be careful with consistency when applying it-- because it's water based, if you're using too much water on the brush, it'll apply all streaky and messy, and will take multiple coats. It's finding the delicate balance between getting enough water to make it sort of paste-like and yet wet enough to spread on cleanly. We did have a little more trouble getting hers to look even since it was lighter than the gray, but it wasn't too noticeable unless up close.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SyraOGmwIv8

This video gives a pretty good idea of what it looked like applying it. We didn't use sponge wedges, just regular brushes, because we applied highlights and shadows on top of the Aquacolor with regular cream makeup.

>>7399834
I haven't worked with PAX before, but I've heard plenty of good things about it. I was simply just showing an example of another option. I do prefer Ben Nye for the face, I'll admit, but I didn't want to add another hour of makeup application trying to mix colors to match the body paint perfectly.
