I actually found bodyline is a good site for wardrobe filling when it comes to blouses. The blouses are pretty good quality (only a few shit one on bl these days) due to the fact they are getting rid of most synthetic lace blouses and using cotton lace (pic related) This blouse for example doesn't look that great on the site but in person is BTSSB quality shockingly enough.

This blouse is a good simple design, and is pretty good quality for a wardrobe filler. I tend to have 2 or 3 brand blouses for extra special events and use the bodyline blouses for daily/regular meet ups and such.

antaina toe shape and toe bows look terrible. It's so easy to pick them out from secret shop or the original AP tps

I actually personally like secret shop TPs over AP sometimes. The different generation of AP tps have a lot of slight differences when it comes to how close or far the toe bow is towards the front of the shoe, and the newer ones have it set further back, while secret shops' knock offs usually follow the older generation of tps with the toe bow much closer to the front of the shoe, giving them much less of a 'clown shoe' look, since the further back from the front the toe bow is, the stupider the shoe looks.

Take it in to a tailor's and pay them to fix it for you. The old elastic needs to be taken out and replaced with new ones. Alternatively, you could also request the tailor take out the elastic and shorten the straps permanently.

Yes, it's possible to fix it yourself, but if you have to ask here for help, that says something about your sewing skills already.

When you get the dress back, make sure you dry it flat whenever you wash it, and store it folded over, not hanging by the straps. The weight of the dress on the straps, wet or dry, is probably what stretched out the elastic.

Generally, you should avoid head-eating bows (especially centered ones), bonnets and big hats. Stick to smaller bows&hats and flowers. You can get crazy with earings, since they will most likely be visible.

I wouldn't recommend wearing OTT sweet or classic. OTT gothic with short hair has some potential tho.

Ok i'm going to assume you're younger... Or maybe you're just really well off and don't have to worry about a job, or attending events where lolita wouldn't be appropriate.

It's a very very small fraction of the community that has the resources (I mean, having the kind of wardrobe that you could comfortably make outfits every single day out of is a lot of money and time, even if you're doing a lot of casual stuff, and thrifted/offbrand, still a lot of money for a wardrobe fitting for 100% lolita), the type of lifestyle, or even the simple desire, to wear lolita every single day. It's much more out of the ordinary. Most of us have normal clothing for work and activities that just aren't good to do in lolita.

Keep your regular clothes, you will need them at some point. Even the girls who do wear lolita every single day all year long probably have a very tiny selection of 'normal' clothing for situations that lolita isn't going to work.

>> No.7397920

>>7397903
Different anon here
Very few (if any) people dress in lolita 24/7 all year.

Most people just incorporate lolita into their existing wardrobe and wear whatever they feel like (because face it, there's going to be days where you just don't want to put in all the effort)

When starting out it's useful to have a theme so you can make different coords out of the few items you have. Unless you know, you're a billionaire and you're going to buy all the burando.
Good luck.

>> No.7397925

Keep your normal clothes. I wear lolita daily but from time to time I just want to wear something else. There're a few non-lolita friendly place too, like family meetings (at least for me), concerts, oral exams if you're a student, most jobs interview if you are older, so keeping casual, non-lolita clothes can be good. Also, I personnaly don't deal well with heat, so I keep a bunch of cute j-fashion-ih sundresses to wear in summer instead of layered lolita.

Speaking from only my personal experience:

I wear lolita 2-3 times a week (on my days off) and I wear it just to go out to eat with friends, go to house parties, or any kind of events that are happening that I'm planning on going to on my days off. I don't go to meet ups, my days off are in the middle of the week basically, so weekends are out for me.

Well, you can always ask about your local comm here, and they probably have a FB that someone can provide you. It'll probably be under a bigger city in your area... Where do you live?

Times I don't wear lolita: when I get home from work and just want to melt into my couch, at work (though technically I could since I work alone I guess? But it would be so pointless to sit in a chair for 10 hours in a pretty dress, and not as comfortable as my normal work clothes), and days where I don't feel like going out or doing anything except watching tv, etc.

A good time to wear lolita is a time where you'd see a normal girl wear heels and do her hair nicely. Some malls, museums, restaurants, etc are appropriate for a normal lolita outfit I'd say. Some colleges and towns/cities (hanging out with friends in Los Angeles, for example) are alright too.

Personally I dress in general jfashion daily and I pull out my lolita for when I head out of town to chill with my pals in LA. For daily wear, plainer is more ideal. Pic related. Note the shoes and hair accessory, as well as the muted colors and silhouette.

I own nothing lolita but I really love the fashion, so I would like to make a few questions..!

Where to start? How to first start building a small wardrobe?
I love all sorts of lolita sub styles but I don't think I'd like to see myself in all of them. Anything with too over the top prints or too frilly, just wouldn't do it for me.

Sometimes I look around online for lolita items and prices and even though I adore many brand dresses, they're probably something I wouldn't be able to afford anytime soon. Is a wardrobe built of off-brand and indie brands doable? I have 0 knowledge of indie brands, tbh.

When looking at sales websites, how can I know I'm looking at a good deal? I don't know how to put a value into an item.

I'm sorry for the bad english, incoherences and huge ammount of noob, I'm just in love with the fashion and want to feel like a princess at least once in a while.
Thank you in advance

You're going to have to do a bit more research on your own if you want helpful advice. check out the tags here http://lolita-tips.tumblr.com/ All of your questions have been asked before.

My advice?
First thing, decide what it is that you like. Collect pictures of the dresses that you would wear. Analyze any similarities or reoccurring themes, details, color palates. Then you'll have an idea of where to start. Come back once you have more information.

>> No.7398862

Go read the sticky? Jfc that's why we have it out there.

But since I have a good day I'd answer.

>>Where to start? How to first start building a small wardrobe?
Look around shops, find a JSK/OP/skirt you like, buy it. Buy or make a petticoat, look for blouses, shoes and accessories you could wear with your first mainpiece. When you'll have at least one good outfit with the first mainpiece look for another one, preferably in similar style or colours so that you won't have to buy everything to coord it.

>>I love all sorts of lolita sub styles but I don't think I'd like to see myself in all of them.
That's cool, you don't even have to stick to a style. Just buy pieces you like.
Don't try to come up with your own ~*special*~ style name tho. That's attention whoring.

>>Sometimes I look around online for lolita items and prices and even though I adore many brand dresses, they're probably something I wouldn't be able to afford anytime soon. Is a wardrobe built of off-brand and indie brands doable? I have 0 knowledge of indie brands, tbh.
STICKY IS YOUR FRIEND. But I'll just add that you can find a lot of brand for the price of offbrand on japanese secondhands, like closetchild or usagiyouhinten.

>>When looking at sales websites, how can I know I'm looking at a good deal? I don't know how to put a value into an item.
You have to look around and you'll quickly get some general knowledge of valuable pieces. Alternatively, ask about certain piece on /cgl's price check thread.

>>7398756
Be sure to also do your research. Just because you like a dress doesn't mean it's Lolita, and you DEFINITELY don't need to be buying cheap, costumey lace monsters off of Ebay or Milanoo. Look at other Lolitas. See how their coordinates look, how they work. Don't just throw anything together. Eventually, putting together good coords will come naturally.

Good luck!

>> No.7398983

I do have pictures saved of coordinates that I like, it's just hard to figure where to start. I don't have a defined way I want to go (I'm not going towards /just/ classic or /just/ sweet, etc), which is not helping either.
