Canonically, all trolls have black lips. But when cosplayers apply black lipstick to their mouths, it always makes them look more feminine, even if the cosplayer is male. And I've never seen a convincing crossplay pulled off with black lipstick. Imo your best bet is to use dark grey on the lips instead of pure black.

I fucking hate it when fandoms make roller derby AUs and don't know what the fuck they're talking about. As an actual rollergirl, it's embarrassing to see these girls not know anything about just skating forward - it took me maybe an hour on skates to learn to just skate forward comfortably, and a lot of people who do these cosplays seem like they've never skated in their life. Also, neither of them are wearing appropriate skates, Terezi doesn't have any toe stops, and they're only wearing wrist guards for protective gear - those shitty little cotton sleeves look shitty and awful.

As for the horn placement, I understand they put them through the holes in their helmet. I would have glued them on to a different spot or drilled/cut holes into the helmets to place them better.

I personally like the concept! I think the competitive and gaming based nature of the characters make it for a better AU than say, a coffee shop. I enjoy thinking about the characters various play styles - I enjoy making comparisons to real life skaters and considering derby names for them. Fun times.

That may sound good, but the problem is usually that gluing horns to the helmet doesn't look natural. Gluing them makes it seem like the horns are just sprouting from the helmet when realistically (as realistic as fictional trolls can get) horns would have to go through holes in hats/helmets.

Basically the moral of the story is: make holes for horns.

Most bars don't require you to be 21 to enter, they just card you when you order. A lot of places will card you at the door so that the bartender doesn't get slowed down worrying whether or not they are serving to minors. I've been to a few bars before I was 21 for performances that I/my friends were in and they marked my hand so that the bartender knew not to serve me. All that being said, I have only ever been carded at liquor stores and grocery stores.

Out of this montage, only Abessinier and the black-shirted Dave in the second row have acceptable wigs. Everyone else is a travesty.
Although her first Dave wig was kind of awkward, I respect Abessinier for at least making an obvious effort to style her wig (and the wigs got better, because SURPRISE you get better at things by practising).

I hate this shit. I know a guy irl who cosplays Dave. He's cute and his cosplay would look fantastic if he actually styled the wig, but he just keeps it as it is.

He's super cringeworthy, though. On Halloween he wore a full Dave cosplay with a flower crown around to all of his classes. His boyfriend pained his face like Gamzee and they both looked kind of shitty in general.

Why do people think this shit is acceptable to do in every day life?

1) My earliest cosplay attempts I would not even sell. I keep them for sentimentality. Eventually I might disassemble them to reuse materials, but I would be ashamed to pass them off as my work now, given how much I've improved.

i honestly dont know why everyone is so unoriginal with the AR design its like one person posts art and then everyone thinks a popular piece of fan art is canon

and just with all these bad daves and just some of these costumes at all, like i stayed home from a con because i didn't think my cosplay wasn't up to par (like i knew it wasnt the best i could do)
it just kinda shit on all the other people who break their asses making their costumes to the best of their ability, makes me sad, makes me mad >:C

Yeah, I don't really get it either. It's like with Nightvale, where they all just seem to decide certain characters look a certain way because someone made half decent fan art. For groups of people that claim to be all about the multicutural head canons and what not, they sure don't have a lot of originality.

I feel you. There really isn't anything wrong with wanting to make the best costume you can. It just sucks that you can't make something you're completely happy with. Though, I mean, it's just a matter of making the next one even better.

Yeah. I don't want to say I wasn't a spazzy kid back when I first got into this thing, but still, I don't think I was ever that bad and I tried to make my costumes accurate instead of just throwing on whatever I could find and calling it great.

I think the part that really gets to me though, is that you can't even say that you'd make changes to their costume without them exploding. Like, they must just think anything they can shit out is solid gold encrusted with diamonds with how highly a lot of these kids think of themselves.
