Not sure about the pattern, but would would you put the zipper in the back? There is no seam line back there, and putting one in will be very noticeable against all that white. I would but a hidden zipper inside the black star shape in the front.

I'd go with a regular well fitting jacket pattern but take in the waist a bit so it gets that shape, also put the zipper in the frontside. It'll just look awkward at the back and the uniforms are jackets anyway so just put a hidden zipper in front.

Posted in the last thread, may as well go here too

I'm trying to cosplay Lucius (pic related, dude on the right), but I'm not sure where to begin with buying his clothes. What would that blue robe of his be called? Not only that, but what are the terms for that hip sash and cape?

If there's no specific item for the sashes, how might one utilize simple cloth to get those effects?

Bear in mind I can't into sewing and would prefer not to commission

>> No.7354796

>>7354790
hate to break it to you, but outside of sewing it yourself, or getting it made for you, it's not happening. That outfit does not exist off the rack, and even if you find something a little close, it will still be horribly inaccurate and will look like shit.

>> No.7354805

>>7354796
Alright, thanks for the input. Commissions it is, I guess

But what about the sash and cape? Surely those can be bought somewhere. Could I just get a bolt of cloth, size it, and tie it for the hip one? Maybe do the same for the cape somehow?

>> No.7354812

>>7354790
Sew it yourself. This costume is pretty straight forward and you can find a similar pattern to alter. If you have people do easy shit like this for you, you'll never progress as a cosplayer. I love old school Fire Emblem. So good luck.

Your best bet is probably to find someone who is new to commissioning. They will naturally be less booked, tend to undercharge too. There are quite a few lesser-known or new commissioners who have been making costumes for themselves for quite some time.

You have to book in advance because a bunch of people have already booked commissions way ahead of you, not to mention the communication time to sort out what you want. I need to change the zippers on some shoes for a cosplay, how should I do it so I don't ruin the shoe?
Pic related, if I buy these I need to remove the current zippers and replace them with gold colored zippers.
Also if I want to change the heel color would that be possible? What could I do or what could I put over the heel part to make it brown?

>> No.7355838

>>7355795
For the zippers, buying regular gold colored zippers or even coloring/dying white zippers yourself would be alright, I'd assume. What I'd try first is to tear the seams that held the zipper together with the shoe apart and take it out. Then just sew them back on.

For the brown heel, you could always just spray paint them. Tape wherever you don't want to be brown, and spray paint the heel part so you only get brown on the area desired.

At least, these are things that I'd do if I were you.

Vacuformed plastic. It would minimize any excess weight. But that's expensive as fuck for startup costs.

In all reality, starting with a plaster mold of your face might not hurt. It's the cheapest thing I can think of, and would probably take to the shaping and molding needed for smooth surfaces for the metallic appearance of Pedro's face.

Should I try to make the dress in "one piece" or should I try to make the skirt and top seperate then sew it together?

Go to a drug store and buy them. They are not expensive. but do not get standard hair gel. Got2B works great, as to several hair waxes, but not gels. gels work with natural hair, but will not work with wigs.

I'm trying to make a blade out of foam board -- I removed the paper coating and sanded/sculpted to the shape I wanted, and then (thought I) sealed with 3 layers of PVA glue followed by 3-4 layers of gesso. I then catalyzed polyester resin and spread it over the top of the blade -- over the past 4-5 hours the gesso layer bubbled up, and now the entire thing is floppy/looks sort of sunken. The resin takes about 24 hours to fully cure, so it's still tacky to the touch. Did I not seal the foam well enough? Does this technique not work with foam board? If it doesn't, is there any other way to strengthen foam board?

I'm planning a Hitomi cosplay from DoA and it's pretty much an easy job. I just want some advice about her gloves. The screenshots I can find/took are all pretty shoddy and don't show the whole glove, but from what I see, they look like black gloves with that red material on top. I'm wondering if I should just buy mma/boxing gloves that are similar enough, but not perfect or try making hers. If it's best to make hers, what should I use for that protective part?

So, I'm cosplaying for the first time at Katsu this weeked (woo), and for my first cosplay I picked a character who's kind of creepy. I know some people like it when cosplayers are in-character, but if I'm cosplaying someone who's soulless and has a serious case of crazy-eye, should I just forgo that and act like a decent human being? I don't want to freak people out, but acting in-character sounds fun.

Do not act in character. It is annoying and stupid. You are cosplaying, not acting. And even if you were acting, you wouldn't act that way all the time. the only time to ever act in character is during a masquerade/skit entry, or posing for a photoshoot, or if someone asks you to act in character for a con video or interview or something similar. But do not roam the halls acting like a fucking anime character.

Ahh, okay, sorry. I seem to have struck a nerve, huh? I've heard people on this board say that they love it when people act in-character, but if it's gonna garner negative reactions of the same strength, I'll stay away from that. No you haven't.
You may have heard people say practice poses, or know how your character stands, which is different from acting in character. Acting in character would be back when those Naruto cospalyers would run down the halls screaming "dattebayo" at the top of their lungs. The only one people have ever seemed to like, was the Deadpool, and that wasn't even in character, that was just acting like a goof, and he only did that when cameras were rolling.

Hello seagulls. I'm going to be cosplaying Bartz Klauser for an upcoming con. I'm looking into getting a pair of circle lenses, and it is to my understanding that circle lenses tend to do better on darker color eyes. My eyes are light blue green, pic related (excuse potato quality and crappy bathroom lighting, it's all I got). The pair of lenses I found are on pinky paradise, https://www.pinkyparadise.com/EOS-Adult-Brown-p/f2-e203-br.htm . I an basically ready to purchase them based on the real life photos that they have provided as the color sends just about right, but all of the models have naturally dark eyes it seems, so I'm a tad hesitant to buy them right away. Could anyone else with light eyes help out here in regards to a light brown lens on a light colored eye?

I just got a pair of circle lenses in red, and I have blue-grey eyes. When my pupils are contracted, you can definitely see the blue around my pupil where the lens is clear. It's not the worst thing in the world, though -- at least, it's better than using my natural eye colour for the cosplay. But then again, my character has very distinctive eyes, and it looks like yours doesn't (seeing as they're brown).
Also, it's good to note that most cons are in places like hotels where lighting is fairly dim and your pupils won't be that contracted, so it probably won't be as noticeable as when you're standing in front of your mirror with light shining directly on you.
Also, if you're concerned about whether your green will bleed into the brown, I'm not sure. Your lenses look like they're clear in parts of the iris, and mine didn't look that way on the website. You might want to find a pair that looks opaque over the entire iris.
Hope that helps!

It does seem achievable however. Just a few questions

I'd assume to just get a red lycra body suit, then sew on the black/orange parts (and emblem). What would be the best way to sew it though?
Also, best ways to hide bulge?
>Helmet
The googles/ear things should be easy enough, can't for the life of me find a similar helmet though
>Shoes
White boots, haven't really looked for them. Also white gloves are easy enough
>Scarf/mask
Really easy, already have a red and white scarf.
>belt
Friend suggested getting one of those kid's wrestling belts, taking off the shiny gold bit, and spraying it. Unless you can think of anything better, I feel fine with that.

Hello Seagulls, I'm trying to cosplay the London Alice version from Alice Madness Returns. It will be my first cosplay!
Although I'm doing ok with the outfit, I can't find a suitable wig... Anyone have any suggestions? Preferentialy from a EU store.

Any general makeup tips or tutorials for a guy who has never used makeup before? Like, I hear that even just a little bit will help, plus I have some scars on my face that I'm wondering how to cover up.

This is all dependent on where you are buying from. Check customer reviews, see if their work is actually theirs and not stolen pics from other sites, and ask questions.

For contacts, you're going to want to get fitted by your optometrist. Don't just order contacts online without being measured first - you risk scratching your cornea and going blind. Your optometrist should show you how to put them in.

Like >>7370162 said, it depends on where it's from. I've had good luck with Taobao. The spreadsheet has a lot of nice costume shops. A lot of people were impressed with the quality of my costume despite it being bought. As a tip, I'd avoid buying costumes from western stores. Odds are, they're really overpriced resellers.

Another option is commissioning. I've never commissioned someone, but you'll get a much more personal experience.

Whichever you choose, do your research first!

I really want to cosplay Saint Young Men with a friend of mine. I'd like to be Buddha but
a) I don't know where to start on the wig
b) And his earlobes

I figured for his earlobes I could make something and attach with with spirit gum, but the problem is I'm pretty new (hence choosing such a basic cosplay), and I'm not about to fuck around with prosthetics.

Two ways to go about the spikes. Cheapest would be foam. You can actually buy floral foam already in cone shape at craft stores. Be sure to seal it before painting though. A few layers of gesso, sanding in between will work.
If you want the more costly method, thermoplastics such as wonderflex or worbla would also work, and be far sturdier. Either that or insulation foam will also work for the gloves boot armor.

As for the height, there isn't a lot of space to hide lifts, but you can get some higher soled shoes as a base, and some lift insoles. Also, be sure to put some big shoulder pads inside your jacket to give you that extra big nd squared frame.

A lot of bird feathers are actually illegal to collect, and certainly won't be sold in bulk at all. Your best bet is to buy big turkey flats (good quality ones!) and hand cut/colour/dye them to the right shape and pattern.

>>7354051
Personally I'd go Arda wigs, because they're ridiculously thick and easy to style. Maybe the Jareth or the Nicki (if you don't want to have to do as much styling to get the volume)

>>7354086
It would look a lot neater if you used a short wig with the fibres going downwards, unless you're a wig wizard and can get it very smooth whilst styling the fibres to go in the wrong direction.

>>7355547
I would sand down your paper mache until it is mostly smooth, and then gesso a few layers and sand, and then gesso a few more and sand again until you have a nice even surface. A good tip is to water down later layers of gesso to minimise texture from brushstrokes. Also work through your sandpaper grits from coarse to fine.

>>7356129
Measure your head and then look on ebay a wig block of the same circumference as your head.

>>7357231
Buy the best machine you can afford - you'll thank yourself for it later. Electronic ones are amazing. Automatic buttonholing is a godsend, and ones with a heap of stitch patterns are always good too.

>>7357801
You could always just wear a pair of tights underneath.

>>7358289
You'll want to look at heat forming some acrylic sheeting for the main structure, and use a more lightweight material for the darker blue in between. Also research some really really good harness techniques because they're gonna be heavy as fuck no matter what you do.

>>7358766
For that I would probably use worbla. You can make a solid 'block' for the mask shape out of wood or clay or both, just get the shape right and then heat form the worbla over it to conform to the same shape.

Have a look at elizabethan dress construction, because that looks very similar. Personally I would go for a nice heavy delustered satin, or even a brocade if you don't want to be 100% accurate to the flat colours. I would mix a few fabrics up - say maybe a nice velvet (NOT crushed velvet) for the bodice, and a chiffon for the sleeves. You want a bit of a sheen in all your fabrics because it's a ballgown. No linen, cotton, etc etc. Just stay away from party satin.

>>7361345
The dress should be in one piece, the skirt isn't nearly as voluminous as a circle skirt. you should wear a second layer underneath, but only a single layer of fabric, not a big puffy tulle petticoat or anything.

>>7363253
It's just three strips of leather riveted to a metal ring. for the purposes of getting it on and off, you'll probably want to exchange a few of the rivets for buttons.

SOMETIMES i'll wear a section super tight suit under, but a lot of the time I go commando (assuming youre female) I dont think i've ever had a problem with a bra showing through.

If youre suit is constructed properly you shouldnt have to worry about camel toe.

For the spikes and armguard? Use foam. That's about it, not too tough. Thermoplastics is overkill for something rigid like this.

I buy all my fabric online and I have no idea what im looking for. I usually stick to spandex/stretchy fabrics.

i'm planning on getting pre-existing jumpsuit/coveralls that are like white or something and dying them/modifying them to suit my needs.
do any of you have any recommendations on what dye to use as far as coloring them to that shade of blue?

Planning a Kate cosplay from Sekai Seifuku
Any fabric suggestions?
I'm thinking maybe a bit heavy fabric because of the way her cape sways and drapes (if that makes sense?)

Also for the mask, I don't know if I should make an actual mask or do some facepaint shit. I just feel like the mask would look awkward but I don't know?

For my Skyrim cosplay I'm going to need a pair of knee high brown boots for the iron boots (if possible, leather-like or fur-like) but the problem is, I haven't found a single pair of tall boots for men in my city ,and having in mind I have a 44 EU shoe size (10 UK) the search becomes more difficult both IRL and online. So here is my question:

Should I buy some rubber riding boots (and in case I only find them in black, paint them) or continue searching?
In the latter case, any suggestions of where I should look?

Oh cool, someone else watching Sekai Seifuku! I don't know about the cape, but I think an actual mask would work better than facepaint. It always looked like a Zorro-type mask to me.

>> No.7374834

Yeah I think I'm gonna go with a mask too since the facepaint probably would rub off on the wig or something. But thanks!

Just looking at the base, not the armor, that looks very difficult for a beginner. I suppose it isn't impossible but there would be a lot of screw-ups, frustration and re-do's. I wouldn't recommend it.

I figured as much.
While that will most definitely be something a future costume, I decided on a bit easier one for my very first time doing armor. Though it is very detailed, there's a lot less armor pieces to make, so I can focus more attention to all those details.
I'm determined to cosplay an elin in armor !

You think my prototype here's collar is correct for Irresponsible Captain Tylor? Some of the shots in the anime look like the non-folded side has a more traditional, steep cut off on it, while most of the shots look like it has a gradual curve down like I have on my prototype. I could just use some second opinions on this, thanks!

If you're still here, just get it wet and they'll come back. I regularly brush my wigs, even the curly ones, and the most I've ever had to do is put one in curlers while it dried.
