Shame, because I'm not sure if I can fit into that VM dress I bought. Would the pushup pads really work, or would they look weirdly out of place? I know I asked this before, but I'd like some input on how it looks specifically on lolita dresses.

>too skinny to fit brand except for Emily Temple
Jane Marple is smaller on average, but both them and Emily Temple are more Otome than anything else.

Also you're not too skinny to fit brand, you can get it tailored to fit smaller. Though you'll have to go to a real professional like someone who takes in wedding dresses would be the best. The only problem with taking it in would be the potential loss of profit from reselling, but then it wouldn't be so bad unless you like sweet lolita prints.

Also a lot of brands skirts are smaller. Exactly what are your measurements and height? Because you may be thin, but if you're quite tall that should even it out since most Japanese girls are an average of 5ft2in.

Coat shopping is rather hard though they tend to add additional room for clothing, a lot of brands assume that you're going to wear quite a few layers. So anything within the mid 90cm range should be ok, just a bit roomy. I personally suggest trying to find something locally, you usually can find cute stuff everywhere now.

Though if you're going with a lolita brand based one, I suggest picking a jacket over a coat, since they tend to have overall smaller measurements.

Also while skirts fit good, I'm not exactly what you could do. All I can suggest is look for pieces that have a corseted back because at least you can tighten them for your body much better. But if you wear classical that might be a bit hard to find, though their pieces seem to drape better and look amazing on a thinner build.

My OCD will not let me alter my brand in any way, shape or form nor would I want to risk not being able to resale it. General small lolita tips incoming:
- Brand blouses are generally too big.
- Fixed size brand probably won't fit unless it's older releases
- Skirts are smaller than dresses, Meta's older "part elastic" ones (they aren't truly half elastic, the elastic is just for breathing!) are fantastic and usually fit 60-66cm waist well, plus have waist ties for those who are just under the measurements.
- Shirring AND corset lacing, all the time, most IW/Baby/AP/Meta with the above will fit.
- Fixed size ETC doesn't run that small, their fixed size is ~33" bust/28" waist. Shirley Temple/some ETC do children's sizes, which are okay if you're shorter but the waist is often too big.
- Atelier Pierrot goes quite small without looking silly with corset/shirred items. Avoid their corset dresses unless you are willing to tape them to stay up
- MM/VM is usually huge, but can be made to fit if it has corset lacing down the whole of the back. If it just has waist ties, proceed with caution.
- Ditto JetJ. Their styles are sometimes more amenable to alteration though
- tailoring - okay, to take in a lot of these dresses is a pretty big job in the same way altering a dress to be bigger is a pretty big job. Neither are just something you can pop down to the tailor for like hemming your pants. If you are really too small for a dress, it often means recutting the entire bodice for it to look good - plus detaching the skirt and lining, recutting the lining to the size of the bodice, and regathering and attaching the skirt - possibly nearly the whole of it to distribute the gathers more evenly if you've had to take a fair amount out of the waist of the bodice. It's not simple, doesn't always look good, and does require a decently skilled seamstress to do it.
- taobao in a size S if you're small AND short - although some places do longer skirts/dresses I imagine longer bodices and sleeves aren't the norm.

>- taobao in a size S if you're small AND short
Thanks for writing this list but I'd like to add that even if it says it's a small or extra small, do not rely on anything except numerical dimensions for reassurance that something will fit.
Recently got some things from various taobao brands all sized an S that have turned out about a UK 10, which is right for a western S but really not what I expected from taobao fabled sizes, and still really short on a 5"1-er.

I was 130 and a total fatty chan when I started but My entire family is kind of "thick" and my brother is a body builder so I'm sure it's genetic but I wish I was skinny and frail ;-;
Everyone else in my height range weighs under 100 pounds and while being able to eat tons of junk food.i feel like the only way id ever achieve a more normal weight for my height is full blown anorexia.

A little insight My gym regimen consists of threadmill, eliptical and then weight machines ( i dont use free weights anymore becouse they gave me insanely thick arms) . I mostly eat leafy Greens with hummas, the occasional bread and lots of soup. I'm terrible at math so i can't bring myself to count calories but I'm pretty sure I'm not eating foods in an amount that would classify as bulking .
And worst of all becouse of all this, all of my boyfriends for the past 2 years have been fit bros, but I like tall skinny Aisan Kpop guys. ;-;

>Shirring AND corset lacing, all the time, most IW/Baby/AP/Meta with the above will fit.
Sometimes the lacing on the back is just decorative and doesn't cinch in without pulling and possibly tearing the lace that the ribbon is looped through. It's kind of hard to see in this picture, but this is what I'm talking about. If the ribbon is going through grommets or any kind of sturdier loops, it's ok to pull tight, but not if it's going through delicate lace.

Actually, there is. The "one size" brands put out are a US6 or Medium. Measurement-wise that's about 36-25-26. I use a size 6 dress mannequin for sewing and every brand item I've had fit, with variations in ease.
6 is also the standard of fashion in general. It's the size samples are made in and the standard of fashion models.

So for lolita brands, unless an item is labeled L or S size, it's pretty safe to assume its a 6.
