Question: If something had a very heavy anatomy theme, do you think it could be considered guro? I see a ton of cool bone and anatomic jewelry like molar necklaces, waist cinchers or corsets with skeleton or anatomical heart cameos attached to the front...

I feel like everyone only attacks guro from the cheesy, blood-stained dress angle, and that's kind of lame imo. Why not REAL BONE ACCESSORIES?

I love those tights, but I'd never use them for lolita.
There is honestly so much more than bones that can be creepy or guro.
Veins, muscles, organs, animal bones, teeth, rotting flesh... there's so many angles you could play if you're artistic enough.
That being said, keeping it loli seems hard.

The generic skeleton tights that look just like Bodyline's are lame, yes. Though I've seen some really good skeleton tights that are completely different looking, and I don't understand why people don't buy those instead these days because you get to keep the awesome skeleton look without it being really overdone.

I think a really cool pair of tights, though, would be if there are tights made to simulate zombie legs or something. Or just massively shredded legs, and you could wear a pair of socks with them if they aren't too Lolita or interesting or whatever on their own.

This choker is from VonErickson on etsy, and this is where it gets a bit less classy looking. It's kind of nice if you like looking slightly more like you're from a comedy-horror movie from the 80s.

Ok, I have a question. I know Lolita's don't like it to be referred as costuming, but I see guro and I can't understand how it isn't a costume. How is costuming bad? How does guro fit in with everything else?

It's highly debated among Lolitas anyways, so it's okay. Some people don't even consider it a real substyle, and a lot of people don't like it because they think it is too costumey, and they do not want costumey to be related to Lolita. It undermines the idea that Lolita is an every day fashion, I think.

I think that to a certain extent that while lolita isn't a costume there are substyles that are more geared towards certain situations. Guro for example is more costume like and to a certain extent is often used around halloween as our version of a "Closet cosplay" halloween costume and can use any of the other styles as a base. So yeah: guro is costume-y, because it is a costume that uses the clothes that we wear, just like how you can use regular clothes in a cheap halloween costume and those... jeans or whatever... don't suddenly transform into a costume.

I know some anons in some other threads have mentioned wanting scientific style Lolita prints, and that's cool, but someone should totally do anatomy notes print or something with anatomical models. If you go to ebay, and look up zombie tights, you can get several hits. There is some that are just blood splattered, some give veiny legs, and another good one is Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas. She has leggings made for costumes, and they are basically just a ton of scars. If you can think of popular characters with messed up legs, you could probably just look up tights people use for their Halloween costumes.

On Etsy, I found pic-related by beadborg. There are also these same kinds of tights, but they have ball-joint doll airbrushing on them like you usually see if you are into that. One pair even has maggots crawling out, so that's cool.

Those shoes were originally designed by dsquared2, but you can find the knock offs just about anywhere. I have noticed that the knocks offs naturally dont put enough detail into the heel. Pic is a detailed look of the original design

I was playing around with some makeup I had laying around, and I got pic related. When I posted it to facebook, some people were actually concerned I had cut myself! I was going for more of a zombie thing for halloween, so I put down some cruddy green/grey first, but you'd basically just skip that if you want them to look more realistic.

Make it look somewhat buised around the outside. A little yellow, green, some purple and black. It'll just take some messing around to figure out how to make it look real.

AFTER you create the bruising where you want the cuts to be, take your red color or fake blood of choice and just paint a line where you want the cut to be. Let it sit and dry a bit, and then darken half of it, the half that would be downwards, so it looks like the blood pooled up a little.

And remember that an actual cut will tend to be a clean straight line. If you want to make more gruesome looking wounds, you can use toilet paper and elmer's glue for cheapo prosthetics to create more dimension. Put those on, then cover it with foundation, and then apply your blood and bruising.

I did a guro themed coord around Halloween, and had to experiment since I couldn't use latex because of allergies. For the cuts, I used (dried) pieces of hot glue on either side, attached by spirit gum, then blended it into my skin with a flour/water paste to make the skin look more raised and shredded. Used foundation and various eyeshadow colors blended together to get it to look more like cuts. The scar was just the paste+fountain+eyeshadow blending. The photo isn't super detailed, but I got quite a few comments on how realistic it looked. I'm not the greatest at explaining things, but I hope that helps a bit.

I have this, my ex got it for me. It's fairly crappy quality, but you can only tell from looking at the underside, which isn't visible when you're wearing it. When it's on, it looks great and is nicely subtle.

A local store has it in stock right now, though for more than this (about $14 a yard). I picked some up for an unrelated project and its pretty decent weight. Comes in pink, white, offwhite/grey and black I think. I really particularly like the grey in person, its very soft and pretty while still being a little eerie. I wanna pair it with some grey and pink and tea brown maybe.

Thinking an OP (since I don't have one yet) but not decided on pattern. Likely short or 3/4 sleeve, and probably do a sort of beigey tea dyed lace to keep it pretty muted. I do mostly classic so trying to keep it within that realm.

BlaBla Hospital has lolita designs, actually. But it was only full lolita on its first designs, even if it's tied to the subculture still, they only make a few lolita pieces a year now. IT used to be more loli than what it's now.
