I've seen a lot of ice-skating meetups surface lately.

Is it just me or does this sound like a recipe for disaster?
I mean sure it sounds fun but I can just imagine Tavroses knocking people over or falling and cracking horns and dropping wigs.

I've been to two, though they were general cosplay as opposed to a specific cosplay skate. Even then, people generally avoided wearing too much that could possibly get in the way of other skaters. Things like smaller horns are fine, but generally if anyone wanted to go as a troll, they should just Humanstuck it up.

I am so sick of seeing both MF and Pyropi's shit faces everywhere. They are both massive cunts and neither of them deserve the idol-worship they get in the hs cosplay crowd

I have the youknowit mesh contacts because the honeycolor ones didn't exist when I bought them, and I highly suggest going with honeycolor. I wear circle lenses and regular contacts all the time and I have never had a pair that bothered me as much as the youknowitbrand - I can't even keep them in for more than 3 or 4 hours, tops.

apply it with a brush, and only use the tiniest amount possible. trust me, a tiny drop is enough for compelte opaque coverage. i recommend priming and exfoliating your lips properly beforehand

1) Exfoliate (Scrubbing dead cells off)

Dress of Eclectica; and I've had the fabric for Handmaid for forever (literally since Handmaid was introduced in the comic) but haven't touched the dress yet. Went to the Winter SacAnime as Princess Bubblegum. Con was pretty chill. The larger downtown space is *infinitely* better than the Radisson that the con used to be at. Homestuck panel was packed, with people having to stand along the back wall. The people on the panel were mediocre at worst, with a very good Nepeta and Eridan (possibly some others, but I don't recall). I left partway through to check on my parking metre.

NorCal comm seems young (middle-/high-school aged, with the benefit of some people at UC Davis also happening to be Homestuck fans). I haven't been to any meets here (only the Pasadena ones that AVeryNicePrince used to run over the summer, since those are down by my hometown). The most casual MSPA run-ins I've had have been on the university campus. Last week I saw a dude wearing a SBaHJ shirt. Neat.

ANYWAYS, the first trick to applying any sort of paint evenly is to blot it, not smear it. If you can get a solid block of sponge (not one cut into triangles or circles), that would be best because you can tear off a piece. The rough edging applies much better than a thin, smooth edging. Alternatively, look into getting a beauty blender (google it).
You should also prime sufficiently beforehand. Monistat chafing gel is known to be a good and cheap primer (again, google it. I know it's difficult to believe, but google it). I wouldn't recommend that specific product if you break out easily, though.
Instead of looking up cosplay tutorials, you should look into theater, geisha, or shironuri tutorials and use the products they use. If you can't use Ben Nye's or Mehron's clown white for whatever reason (lol), then I recommend Mitsuyoshi Grease Paint Foundation (color #4) or Diamond FX Face Paint Essential.
Don't use Mehron Makeup Paradise in white. It's notoriously streaky.

Depends on how you headcanon John's hair to look. The Hansel will give you a realistic tousle with some fluff on the sides as well as the top, while the Derek is better suited for top volume only. The Derek is much better for Jake though. If it's versatility you're after, to do both characters with the same wig, then yeah, you'll want the Derek. Just make sure to style it differently for each cosplay.

MF's finished the bulk (pun not intended) of her ballgown dreamer Roxy. Thoughts?

Generally her work within the Homestuck fandom doesn't compare well to her other cosplays (excepting her Kanaya canon outfits and Trickster Roxy), but this ballgown might be the first Homestuck thing of hers in a long time that I like.

It's a okay start. Get better socks/stockings and work on your paint. Oh, and add some muscle definition for sure.
The horns are pretty decent and the shirt isn't bad.

Also, probably wouldn't hurt to work on your posing a bit. Eq is awkward, but he also has a very imposing presence, so try to make yourself seem bigger and to not slouch too much.

But, yeah, it's definitely above the average, and with some fine tuning you could probably be a pretty good Equius.

I've been doing a lot of excersizing quite a bit lately becuase I have a few semi-shirtless cosplays planned for next con so I should be more muscular (I'm 6'5" so it'll take a lot to be anything impressive, but a little goes a long way). I've read up more on how to grey properly too since then, but I don't have any immediate plans to revisit the cosplay.

You can get rings at Forever 21 for a good price, and then Hobby Lobby and places of that sort sell purple gems.
For Fins, GypsyTreasure sells the kind you see most people wearing.
