Photographers love groups with gear sets, even with variable quality. All other attendees will be mildly annoyed with you if you have them out in a crowded place.

I don't think the SnK will ever reach Homestuck levels of infamy. Things didn't really get bad until the trolls came around and everyone and their mother was getting gray paint all over the place. The average SnK cosplayer is more likely to get a prop damaged by someone else/by their own stupidity, whereas Homestucks had the potential to wreck someone else's shit.

And having now having participated in organization of a few SnK and Homestuck gatherings each, I can say that the SnK cosplayers in general are more orderly than Homestucks. It probably helps that you can go drill sergeant on them and they'll like you for being "in character" instead of ignoring you.

That being said, I'd probably cream myself from joy/fear if a good Keith Shadis cosplayer ended up organizing a gathering.

Spanx can help to some degree. If your friend just wants some shaping it will work, but if she's overweight, I don't know if it will make a difference. I bought a control top underwear type thing and it keeps everything looking nice underneath a leotard, but my natural waist isn't large to begin with so I can't say first hand how much Spanx can compress.

Yes, it is really hard to make the light colored pants look good (I speak from lots of experience). The white/light grey does nothing to flatter your legs and generally make them look larger than they actually are.

Tricks I've found:
1. Lose weight if you can. That being said, just because you have larger legs doesn't mean you have weight to lose, so this is really only helpful for people with a bit of extra chub.

2. Compression wear. I haven't really had any luck with compression stuff, but results will very from person to person. I have a lot of muscle on my legs, which probably affects how well they compress. Try out a few brands and see what works for you.

3. Don't get the first pair of super skinny jeans you see, shop around a bit for the right shape. I see a lot of AoT cosplayers that just wiggle into a pair of super skinny jeans and call it a day. Don't get me wrong, it can look fine for people with really straight legs, but if you're trying to downplay curves, super tight plus white will make you look larger than you are.

If you look at my terrible diagram (didn't have my tablet handy, sorry), the left pair fits super tight and is high cut. The right pair isn't quite as tight and is a much lower cut. Put them pretty far down on your hips, almost like you're sagging them a bit. Make sure that the waist band of the pants you buy is fairly loose, because a really tight waistband will make your hips look like they ballooned outward.

Anyway, just some tricks I picked up over the years. Hope they help someone.

I fear this as well. I have thunder thighs and I'm tall with all of my height being leg. I wonder how the straps will look on my giant legs.

I've heard good things about RedstarCosplay's stuff. They have a shop on Etsy and lots of reviews you can look through. I've been playing with the idea of just buying the coat because the patches cost almost as much as just buying the coat. That or dust off my embroidery skills.

I second and third compression wear. It seriously helps. You can get ones that go up to your mid section and compress your butt and thighs . Underworks has amazing stuff, though most clothing stores has a compression section.

Thank you. I was able to stitch all of the patches myself, actually, thanks to an embroidery machine I temporarily inherited. I've seen a lot of nice appliques for sale on etsy and ebay, though. I think embroidered patches always look better than the printed patches.

What I would like to know is how can I make myself more masculine looking? This is my first crossplay, so I'm not very experienced with contouring make-up. I've seen a few, but I think the easily available full sets of all the cosplay parts will keep off the worst of the casual cosplay. That and the reusable factor for different characters. I would like to see a few cosplayers in their (canon) casual clothes though.

I don't have particularly strong feelings one way or another here, but it makes sense to me that with a limited leather supply, that leather would be invested into functional equipment when necessary (harnesses) and not fashion with little utility value (uniforms).

I've found some decent results using "over the knee riding boots," "over the knee boots," and "riding boots" as search terms on ebay. Most of the boots made for cosplay tend to look pretty costume like (I think it's the soles), so I look for fashion boots that look a bit more real.

If you have a store like Payless or something it could be worth it to stop in and have a look, especially since now (in the northern hemisphere at least) it's wintertime, so they'll have a good boot selection.

All of these would make sense if you adopt the believe that in the snk universe humans progress through historical periods like humans in our world do.

Instead of them being alternative outfits they are historical outfits from the snk universe at an earlier time.

Alright, I have a question. Why do some SnK cosplayers contour out the wazoo? Good or bad, I'm just wondering because I'm failing to understand.

I chewed through the 25 available episodes on netflix, and only for a few seconds were character's faces that exaggerated, otherwise they were just normal fucking anime faces.

I can understand when cosplaying the titans because of the style that they're drawn in does include contour and shows depth, but rarely is the extreme contouring needed when cosplaying a human.

The manga has very specific looks for each face rather than the more generic look they were given in the anime. Nearly every character had this look like "I've seen some shit." I wish that was reflected in more cosplayers' makeup... like intentional dark circles, rather than this bizarro nose and eye contouring they're going for. There was a meet yesterday, and I'm not sure if it was her or a different Levi (there were two very thin Levis that I kept mixing up), but I'm pretty sure it was her... There were two young teens at the meet and she was smoking weed even when they asked her to stop (one girl said she was fucking allergic and could break out into an asthma attack from the smoke). She kept claiming a medical reason for smoking it and refused to stop. EVENTUALLY I think she got the hint when the girl with the allergies couldn't stop coughing and moved so the wind carried it away from the teens. (None of us could really move too much since we were playing a card game.)
Basically they were a rude ass. I don't have a problem with the fact that they smoke, but I have a problem that they would continue to smoke even when people would ask them to stop. (It was funny in a pathetic way. She kept saying things like, "Well it's medical, if I don't smoke now what do you want me to do? Go home and OD on oxycontin?" I'm sure she could wait 30 minutes till the card game was done and everyone went home. Also she could remove herself from the group, smoke a bit, and come back.)
Sorry I'm raging, it was just so rude.

She told me she's been sick all day from the smoke.
