The only thing i ever regret about wearing low-mobility cosplays for an entire con is the fact that its next to impossible to take pictures. That being said, this guy was well worth the effort. Byyyy far the best raoul duke cosplayer ive ever seen, and if you happened to run into him in the rave then youd know exactly what i mean. That in-character shaggy was pretty awesome too, you cant help but smile when you hear "like, ill have some lettuce man" coming from the subway line at 4am sunday morning.

The lolita meetup was nice and the walk wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

This John Snow looked exactly like my brother and I feel like I awkwardly stared at him for a while because of it.

There were complaints about walking to Haiku two years ago so I choose something closer to the convention center. I'm glad the lolitas went to Lemongrass because Lolita Crush is absolutely underwhelming. The restaurant owner at Lemongrass and their servers were happy to have us there and they took photos too.

I was talking to another lolita on Saturday and she might have a meetup at Pistacia Vera soon.

Those cake pops were pretty good though. It was my first time attending this event, and I liked how everyone cleared out after they were done eating. I kinda wish there was more of a strict guideline set for it. I guess that can't be helped (since it would probably get lost in the mix anyway, being ohayocon and all)

I'm new on the Ohio Lolita and cosplay scene but I would like to go to this con next year. I don't have friends in state though. Mind if I ask a few questions?

If I go to this con alone do you think it will be worth it? Easy to meet people? Good panels to fill in the time?
How does this compare to a con like Katsucon? Obviously it's not in as pretty a place but people wise?
Is it going to cost me an arm and a leg to get a room there?
Do a lot of the lolita from the Ohio comm go? I just joined it but haven't got the chance to attend a meetup yet, but hopefully I can make some friends in there.

I mean these questions are really variable from person to person and also from year to year. In my experience, I'd say being alone is pretty fun for maybe a day, then it's kind of a drag. I spent most of my Friday roaming alone, but by Saturday I did feel a bit awkard and lonely so I regrouped with friends. Overall I'd say it's pretty easy to meet people at Ohayocon. I made a few new friends and exchanged tumblrs which was really cool.

The panels are also variable. As far as my experience, this past con had the best panel programming of any I've been to. However how good panels are vary between year and people's opinions. Assuming next year is similar to this year, I'd say that yes, the panels are great.

Overall, no. There are a lot of hotels in the vicinity that are less expensive than the Hyatt (the one connected to the convention center), so you have a variety of options. Rooming with people will cut costs even further.

Not sure. I'm a part of the con but I'm relatively new so there might've been more girls from the comm than I recognized. The meet ended up with like 8 (like a dozen planned to attend but a few girls cancelled due to weather).

Also, do any of you happen to have pics of a Shiemi in a kimono from Friday? It was me and I'd love to see pics. Probably don't look very good, though. I left my makeup at home so I was au natural with only circle lenses.

Someone asked what was up with a stretcher being taken out of the con on Friday, my answer is saging in the other thread - dude passed out in the game room. Probably dehydration? He was just ragdolled face down on one of those round tables in the general gaming room, EMTs stretchered him out. Hope he's ok.

does anyone think there were more Homestuck cosplayers this year or last year?

It really seemed like more last year, then again last year was my first year so it could have simply been the shock of it all and then I got used to it

I had a much better time at Ohayocon this year than last, but I'm seriously questioning whether to go next year. On one hand, I had a good time meeting up with my friends and going to a few Sunday panels with voice actors, but on the other the place just feels so cramped and casual.

I did have an excellent time with the Ace Attorney photoshoot on Saturday. Everyone there was straight-up awesome, nothing but great people. I also had some good experiences with voice actors and autographs. Other than those, though, it really felt like the con was a mess. It took me a really long time to figure out where the Mega Ran concert was and by the time I got there it was barely attended. Unfortunate since it was such a damn good concert.

A shame, since Ohayocon was my first con and I'll always have good feelings because of that, and I love Columbus and the convention center in general. Ah well. At least there's Colossal.

I didn't take a ton of pictures this year, but I found a few. Have some attorneys. Personal cosplay highlights outside of the Ace Attorney folks were Wayne's World, CM Punk, and Bray Wyatt.

It's a good question on when Ohayocon is being held next year. The NHL All-Star Game is happening in Columbus sometime next January. The date on when the NHL All-Star Game will be held will determine the date Ohayocon will be held too.

This. There was definitely more last year, I remember walking past the photoshoot and it was like a fucking ocean of grey. There was a lot of homestuck this year, but there was definitely more shit like SNK and Dangan Ronpa.

Going through these con photos reminds me that the average cosplayer is all sorts of awful. I find it hard to enjoy cosplaying at cons because I have horrible self esteem issues from constantly comparing myself to the 1% of the top, high quality cosplayers that always gets posted online. </personalblog>

I had a pretty great time at Ohayocon. I didn't get to go last year because I got sick so I don't have much to compare it to.

I was walking around as Shredder so I didn't get to take many pictures so I was going to lurk around a bit to find some good ones. From what I heard, the response to Shredder was pretty good, but I'll ask here too. What did you guys think?
What was good and what wrinkles need ironed out? I know I need to secure those damned spikes a little better at the least.

At any rate it was fun, I got to meet some cool people and got to see some pretty great cosplays!

It was a good cosplay overall, paint job could have used some work but the eyes were a nice touch. Biggest thing though is you need to work on poses. I saw you taking a few pictures and the poses were lackluster at best. I dont know if you got better over the weekend, but work that out and you should be off to a pretty good start.

Anon, I saw a lot more lolitas at Colossalcon last year compared to Ohayocon. Definitely at lot more were present at the fashion show at Colossal than at Lolita crush at Ohayocon. I think at Ohayocon, there were a lot more of the columbus area Lolitas present. But overall, there were more at Colossal. That convention would definitely be worth visiting a lot more than Ohayocon. Attendance, I think between the two conventions is getting closer. There's also more going on and things to do there (plus better staff and organization). I've also heard from a lot more lolitas in the Ohio comm that they are ditching Ohayocon for Colossal if they had to make a choice between the two.
