Would you wear mine, /cgl/? Any changes you'd make? (I'd like to stick with one pastel per colorway, and put a bustle of the same colored fabric in the medium hue on the back/hips, and a ruffle around the bottom. I also added some bows under the pearls, and a rose venise lace over the waistband and hem. I don't wear sweeter things usually, so if this is something you've seen before let me know. I feel like my subconscious must have gotten it from somewhere, it's simple enough.

I'm thinking colorways at least would be sax/pink, pink/pink, white/white, maybe black/black? Couldn't think of a better way a chiffon overlay could work with black, but any other color ideas would be good. Maybe lavender/white? To be honest, I think the bunny and bunny one looks better than that cat. I like the cat, but it looks a bit... I don't know, off next to the bunny? And not because it's a cat and a bunny, but the way they were drawn. I don't know how to explain, but all this means is a bunny and bunny version would be good to add for this colorway too. I think you mentioned sending both, though...

Also, second the black. Take the navy colorway, and just change the navy to black and a few details, and I think it would look good with black and red.

What software are you using? It should have a transform function that allows you to position your objects precisely (usually associated with the transform function or a 'shift' function). You simply duplicate the object, then set its coordinates the width of your fabric repeat away.

IE: Your repeat is 12 inches. You set one object's center at the 0 mark on your horizontal scale. Then you set the duplicate for 12 on the scale, to create the repeat.

The mint and sax would appeal more to sweet, I figured the grey and wine would appeal to classic more, but a pink colorway wouldn't be a bad idea. But a more muted pink, like you did before. I hate that ugly bright baby girl pink they always use.

DDC stands for Day Dream Carnival, an Angelic Pretty print that came out last spring. The specific version anon is talking about is the tiered jsk, pic related

I'd hesitate to add in too many structural details, since these dresses are intended to be made cheaply and it risks the details either being poorly done or rejecting your idea because of it

If you're really thrilled by details, have one mockup that detailed and then a second that's more simple, in case the first doesn't fly

It's a difficult talent to design, especially the bodice, in a way that is simple, classic, but not too plain. And not easy to fuck up. Don't forget the back, either.

I don't know if you're planning on designing the dress the print would go on, though, or if you'll leave that to BL
On that note: Requesting construction mockups! People are posting prints (which I love and please don't stop) but how do you imagine your guys' prints on a dress?

Yeah, everyone was creaming their panties when DDC was announced
Of course! I fuckin love fairies and your design is fantastic. I want to help any way I can to help your chances.

I gathered together some Angelic Pretty bodice inspiration here (I was going to do Baby and Innocent World too, but I ran out of space). I got all pictures and info from Lolibrary.com. I hope jpegging my picture doesn't kill the quality.

I'd suggest to forgo lace wherever you can (bodyline's lace is terrible) and instead choose ruffles ruffles ruffles

With simple JSK straps, which are easy to create and hard to mess up, they can be spruced up a bit by putting ruffles on the outside edges, like in this Rabbit Party jsk. It would kind of look like little wings too.
It'd also look okay if bodyline scaled the ruffles up or down. If ruffles are on both sides of the straps, if they're too big it looks ridiculous

I'm personally a huge fan of the kind of bodice in the Country of Sweets JSK. Single ruffles down the front and covered buttons. I think it looks simple, cute, and adds uncomplicated interest. The collared Fancy Paper Dolls has this too, though smaller. I like it big, though smaller is more mature and classic. I think Sweet Waffle's is too subtle for such an OTT dress (though it could be seen as trying to balance it down), and I've included it as an example of small and close together buttons.

In Sugary Carnival, the bodice is very very simple, but where it gets it's charm is that a strip of the hem's print is stitched up there. You might think about trying something like this, or designing something specifically for the bodice.

The bib style of Cinema Doll and Rabbit Party is another way to simply add interest. I like how it visually follows the line of the straps, making a big U along the shoulders. The tiered Fancy Paper Dolls also has this visual, though not filled in.

I'll talk about straps in my next post. Unless someone tells me to shut the hell up, hah

The Sweet Waffle, Fancy Paper Dolls, and tiered Sugar Fairy Cake JSKs all have their straps built into the actual construction of the bodice. Sweet Waffle and Sugar Fairy Cake have high backs, so they're hardly 'straps', tiered FPD comes down to shirring like most jsks, and the collared FPD has a halter.
Every other dress has the straps sewn onto the bodice. I'd suggest this, since it is easier to construct, wouldn't cause any confusion with sizing, makes it easier to have shirring, and it's easier for the consumer to rip out and shorten the straps.
The problem with straps that are seperate from the bodice is that they're very simple. Sometimes too simple. Some view them as too 'easy' (because they are). Ruffles on the outside edges, like I suggested earlier, would help with this (featured in Melty Cream Donut, Rabbit Party, and in a way the tiered Fancy Paper Dolls). Bows help too, like in Sugary Carnival and Country of Sweets.
How thick they should be is important too. Sweet Waffle and Sugary Carnival both have rather thick straps, Melty Cream Donut's is quite thin.

Final note: I think everyone should include two detachable bows, one big and one medium. Because then you can put the medium one on your waist or on the bodice and have the big one in your hair. Or have big bow at your waist and medium at bodice and go all bow town
Pls I love not having to find a different brand's headbow that still matches in shade.
Maybe you could put the big one on your back if you lose the waist ties

More bows
