so, whats the worst thing you've seen/expirenced going to a con? Doesn't necessary have to be bad cosplays, it can be bitches being bitches, assholes being assholes, pervs being pervs and all the rest of the ground i haven't covered. I ask this because i personally have never had a bad experience at a con but i always hear of people talking about how bad they can be, so i thought id gather a selection of your experiences.

How starved for human contact are people? Hug your friends after not seeing them for a while, your family and SO. You don't need to hug strangers. And you especially shouldnt touch people who just happening to be walking by to get somewhere. Happened to me once. Fucking shoved the bitch off and then she had the nerve to get snippy with me.

>Ppl wanting to hi five you when your going up or down escalators.
Cons are giant petri dishes for germs and doing shit like this is how people end up getting sick. Shit needs to stop.

>Signs.
Cons had to ban signs because people are stupid. I remember this one AX this girl was standing at the bottom of an escalator dressed up as Envy from FMA and she was fat. (We talking more rolls than a snowman.) And on her nude stomach she had "Hug Me" written. People almost piled on top of one another trying to avoid her getting off of the escalator.

Pretty much ppl trying to touch me.

The fucking glomp circle. That shit needs to stop.

It's obnoxious as hell and takes up a ton of space, making it difficult for other cosplayers to squeeze around them. I always get really nervous being near that thing because I've heard stories of people getting mobbed suddenly and having pieces of their costumes or props broken. Ive seen the circle sick themselves on an outsider and it's scary. And the only people who participate in it are smelly weebs and socially awkward asshats anyway; not people I want to touch, let alone hug.

I get your point and his insistence really annoying, But at the end of the day people takes pics at cons, he was kind enough to ask you for them, a lot of peple would take the pic without even asking first. Staying at a con if you aren't confortable with pics all the time or you aren't in the bst mood is a bad idea. because people usually are in a great mood and asume you are in one too.

I had my bag stolen at a con. My cellphone, my id, and some money inside. While I was looking for it around 4 or 5 guys asked me a for a pic. I couldn't say to them "sorry no pics" and even if I was really annoyed by them at the moment I did my best effort to smile in the pics and was nice to them. They even helped me to look for the bag.

Worst thing I've experienced was a photographer being a complete asshole during a private photoshoot I had scheduled with him. He was basically turning into a douchenugget because I wasn't cosplay famous and started comparing me to them (basically saying I didn't compare). The whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth and I wasn't surprised when he decided to not contact me about the second photoshoot for a different costume I had scheduled with him the next day then avoided my calls. After this, I'm only doing them with photographers that I'm close friends with. I only went with this guy because my friends were busy with other cosplayers and I liked this guy's work. Not fucking anymore since he turned out to be one of those photographers just trying to buddy up with popular cosplayers. Once, while I was cosplay a cute, moe type character, a guy asked for a hug. He didn't look sweaty or smell bad, so I went in for a quick hug. Suddenly, four of his obese buddies circled around us and joined in a group hug with me in the middle, and then they all started thrusting their pelvises at me. I had to elbow two of them in the sides while clawing my way out to make them get off me. Disgusting.

Other than that, one year at A-Kon, the fire alarm was pulled, but for some reason it kept going off over and over on my floor for HOURS. It was annoying, but I was fine just giving the desk a ring and asking for it to be fixed and for a discount on the room for all the sleep we weren't getting, but two of my friends were gigantic bitches about it the entire next day.

The hugging was consent. There are more forms of human interraction than verbally saying "I ANON HERE BY OFFICIALLY CONSENT TO BEING DRY HUMPED". Hugging showed how that Anon was both okay with crude humour like rape jokes AND was okay with physical touching.

Now let's be clear here, it was pelvic thrusts, not some sort of intercrural grinding and groping. Perhaps sexual molestation WOULD have been a tad inappropriate, but this was from that.

Speaking of this, my fiance did a really good cosplay this last convention and all fucking evening this guy in his halloween store costume kept "photo bombing" his photos. By "photobombing" I mean, he followed him around the floor and when my fiance would get a photo, he would like...stand there...posing, expecting the person to take his photos too. THEN he would push his way INTO the photos. This happened for like 5/10 minutes. Then, someone in a similar costume (although less impressive quality) started doing the same. The first few were fine, because "hey same costume!" but he started "photobombing" him too. It was amusing for a while but then Halloween store guy showed up again and...yea. We eventually just went to sit outside for a while. My fiance didn't mind, but I was hoping to find a few photos of him afterwards with just him and the people he took photos with- not "photobombs".

I tried to hold a conversation with the halloween store guy, before he tried to jump in more photos, like "hows the con going for you/any interesting panels" but only after a few words/answers he immediately wanted more photos. The other guy didn't talk to us at all.

I don't think they were trying to be mean or annoying, they were trying to be funny but...it stopped being cute when they didn't even wanna strike up a conversation. Someone might ask to hold it and possibly attempt to take off with it, there's a really small chance someone might just swipe it directly off of you, but these things can be easily prevented by just being cautious.
But honestly, the most you'll probably get it someone fangirling over it and/or asking where you got it,

As a rape victim myself I would have loved for someone to try to tell me how to prevent getting myself in a bad situation because then it probably wouldn't have happened. Teaching precautions is the best thing we can do until it's not an issue anyone and people like you are making that impossible. You put the hypothetical victim up on a pedestal telling them that anyone trying to tell them to be safe is wrong, is a horrible person who should kill themselves.

People don't prevent rape by wishing and hoping or even just trying to make everyone agree it's wrong, they do it by telling people to be safe and explaining how to do so. I understand what >>7318607 means, there's common sense in not hanging out with a potentially dangerous person, that's what they were talking about. I'm not going to hang out with a known rapist because it will put me in danger because I can't expect nothing to happen.

Expecting rape to happen all the time is ignorant and it breeds fear and hate, but expecting it to never happen is ignorant and it causes things to happen more frequently.

I don't mean we should tell people how to dress or where to go, but expecting that there will be a day when people stop raping is like expecting a day when people stop killing, you can wish it all you want, but if you want to keep people safe in the here and now, you have to educate them, and part of that is telling them that they won't always be safe.

>> No.7325371

>>7325364
Treating people not to rape other people is how we stop rape.
Instead of victim blaming, we need to stop it at the source . I'm tired of people saying " do this to prevent it" instead of teaching assholes not to do it in the freaking first place! Argh

>> No.7325384

>>7325371
You aren't listening. You can't teach everyone not to do things that are wrong, there will always be someone who does it. You can shame them all you want but it's not going to fix everyone, it's pretty much impossible.
You do honestly have to actually teach people for themselves how to be safe because even if there was a time when 100% of people didn't rape it's not now, and acting like teaching people to be safe is a bad thing, or is shaming, or isn't "stopping it at the source" isn't going to save people who are living in the here and now with dangerous people around them.

>> No.7325385

>>7325371
But to stop it is going to take doing both, and that's the problem.

We need to teach potential victims how to avoid dangerous situations while teaching potential rapists not to fucking rape.

Recently near me there was a woman who was raped in a back alley after she went to meet a stranger she met on facebook, because he said he'd give her a free tattoo. In a back alley. At night.

Come on, that was a very preventable rape, if we'd told the dumb bitch, "Hey, don't meet strangers in dark alleys in the middle of the night!"

The rapist deserves punishment, and the victim doesn't deserve to get raped, but holy shit could you be any fucking dumber?

>> No.7325401

>>7325371
It's both. I doubt anyone is really ignorant enough to say "if chicks do (insert solution), they wont get raped". But you're right in saying raise and promote smart people that wont hurt or take advantage of others.

Should people be shocked when a girl is at a party with no one she knows, she decides to get slammed drunk, and something bad happens though ?

>> No.7325402

>>7325385
I do agree with you. I'm really tired of people labeling everything as victim blaming. Of course it's not the victim's fault for getting raped, no one is saying it's there fault they got raped, but the situation could have turned out bad in a different way, like if she were mugged people would say "Why didn't she know any better not to do that?"

People are in control over their own minds, bodies and actions and they will almost always have some say in the situation they put themselves in, people have autonomy so they should use common sense in situations. Getting raped has nothing to do with having common sense or not, but getting in a situation where it is possible does.

I don't cosplay or anything but I like to see how people put together the more, well done ones, and talk to some peeps since I don't have any friends who watch anime.

Well I was walking down one of the hallways there smoking a vaporizer when a group of girls clearly younger than me (I'm 21-Look 16-Fuck) approaches with "wow that's a cool prop can I see it blah blah" .

Well I assumed they were trying to downplay it and knew that it wasn't a "prop" since I wasn't even in cosplay. So I let the one cosplaying as Luka take a drag... And then her face just drops and she asks what was in it....

"Pot.... I assumed you knew that ?"

So the next thing I know I have some underage Luka cosplayer punch me, directly in the face, and storm off with her friends.

I sort of immediately left the con fearing they would contact authorities but seriously... You didn't have to hit me... sheesh.

Listen, trying to teach people isn't victim blaming, because they aren't victims, they are potential victim nd you can help them by providing them information about how to keep themselves safe. We do this with everything, if this were the wrong tactic we wouldn't have contraception or even teach people about how to not get STDs and that would be dangerous. It's dangerous to not inform people about this kind of thing. It's not life or death but it is deeply scarring, traumatic and if there is even the slightest way to prevent it we should jump on the chance.

It's not 100% going to fix everything either way, but atleast while we're teaching people that it's wrong if we teach people how to react, signs to look for and tips to stay away from the situation in the first place it will only help our efforts in both directions

This scares me a lot too. I consider myself a pretty decent and social person on a daily basis, who's never had problems making friends, but for some reason when I go to a con I switch into mental social retard mode and I'm always afraid that the people I'm hanging around secretly want me to gtfo, even though they've given no social clues to the idea. This is especially prevalent when I'm part of a cosplay group with anyone besides my closest of close friends, because usually i'm the shortest and stumpiest.
