I know a few people planning it...most of them I'm not looking forward to seeing. But maybe I'll get lucky and they won't suck. Then again they think everything that has a floofy skirt is a ballgown so...

>> No.7316944

Let's try to keep this thread to cosplay and not SJW arguing ok? Anna's coronation dress is pretty obviously embroidered, the patterning is raised from the rest of the skirt and shiny, like from silk embroidery thread. Yes woven is another possible interpretation, but applique is definitely wrong.

>> No.7316998

>>7316944
I dunno, bodice completely aside because there's no way that's not embroidery, I'm pretty sure it's a like brocade. Brocades commonly have that kind of raised and shiny texture, and the designs were lacking the piece-iness that all of the embroidery was animated like. I agree, though, I don't think applique would right, unless someone did some crazy mad applique tricks to make it not look like..well...applique.

At the end of the day cosplay is also a game of interpretation. It's often nicer to work from posters/static images because of the different type of detail. If a cosplayer sticks to a particular version and has reference to back up their choices, I really like that. Not so keen on mixing and matching bits of costume across different media/representations though (I've seen people do that with the dolls).

I like to think her shoes are made out of ice, so if it was that thin it would be a little transparent.

On my shoes, I decided to scale down the long points in the center of the shoe because of this. The material I use was really rigid, even with hose on, it was still uncomfortable to wear. Considering how much my feet will be seen with the long skirt (which isn't much), I wasn't totally concerned.

I see what you mean now. I used sequins for my bodice and layered a several kinds of fabrics for the skirt. I think I may use one of the fabrics and do an overlay on the bodice over sequins because of that "disconnect". It IS a really difficult costume to keep "screen accurate' but wearable IRL. I used some artistic license but it is still very recognizable.

I think your interpretation being inspired by Evanora's dress would be very pretty but yea I understand about wanting to avoid the backlash. Sometimes it's worth being happy with what you create though.

That's kind of how most of her costumes turn out, but I think it works most of the time. Personally, I'm just impressed with the snowflakes on the cape. It's a good way to execute them, because all of the screen printed/painted ones I've seen so far look like jizz stains instead of snow flakes.

Pretty damn ok from the looks of it. Looks like they're planning on doing their cosplays at Katsu and they're freaking adorable.

Anyways, I come bearing gifts! Sorry that it took so long, but here are all of the references you kids could ask for. The entire movie decompressed frame-by-frame. Total is 2.5 gb, broken down into 500 mb chunks. When I say there's a lot? I mean a LOT. Like.. 25,000ish frames per rar file..a lot. I recommend using a program like Irfanview, so you can easily scroll through like a flipbook. Let me know if any of these don't work so I can fix them pronto.

Things we have known since 2005.
I know over there they are more into the modeling aspect of cosplay rather than the fandom part. That must be why they think that much shoop is acceptable.

I remember back in the day when we all thought japanese cosplayers were perfect. Turns out lots of them buy their stuff then shoop the bejezuz out of their pictures.
Add to that the fact that only the good pics reaches us here. Of course no one took pics of the really bad cosplays.

Honestly, given what the creators said in the art book, and how it looks in the movie, I would go with slightly soft/thick silk (if I had an unlimited budget that is). If you do make it out of satin, be careful that it's not too shiney, and can still move with your arms, and if you use velvet, try to choose one with a very slight pile? If feel like if you chose a normal length pile, it might look kind of odd behind the bodice.

The glitter side of the bodice is the armpit cape, and everyone's done the upper arm curve patterns. Some people use rhinestones some used glitter.

Anyone know a good source for high glitter eyeshadow? Just loose glitter is ok, I can get purple cream shadow. I don't want to use craft glitter, better if it ships outside the US or is a mainstream brand I can buy at a counter.

Where I agree all the Angela hate is stupid, glueing stone onto a cape isn't hard. It's just expensive which is the reason most people don't go that route when making this outfit. The bodice, cape and skirts is pretty basic construction that even a beginner seamstress could do. The only difficulty would be sewing the fabric as these types can be tricky. However with a little research/practice it's more than doable. She did a fine job IMO. I just would not have done chalking on the bodice.

Seriously. I admire her as a seamstress but the cape is disappointing, it's just not as delicate as it should be. She should've used rhinestones as accents rather than full designs and tbh I cringed when I saw she was using stretch fabric

And yeah, if you're going to do this version of Elsa, please bring some attitude to the character. It's kind of like, the whole point of her transformation?

Yeah, I think pretty much anyone on cgl with a $5 pattern could do that
And make it fit better than whatever the fuck is going on with her shit.
>implying the rhinestones are hard
Time consuming at most, but hey, she's homeschooled and doesn't have a job or drivers license and her parents buy her everything. Not like she's busy having a real life or anything.
This just supports what some of have been saying all along, that she at the bare minimum gets help from her seamstress mom and grandmother, if they don't do all of it.

She shouldn't have done the contouring on her cheeks - she's managed to make herself look old and not in a good way. And yeah, she definitely needs to learn how to make different facial expressions from her "I'm a doll with a still up my arse" default.
Also, I know sticking down all those rhinestones would've been a pain in the ass.... but the cape is lazily done. It's meant to be super heavy on the sparkles at the top where it attached to the bodice and instead she's just focused on the designs at the bottom, then thinned it out towards the top. My guess is she got sick of doing it. I still don't get why she decided to mix blue and white rhinestones either.
I'm not loving her fabric choice for the cape and sleeves either. I know why she did it (for the stretch and to match) but it looks bad. The colour's way too saturated and it hangs horribly - probably due to the rhinestones weighing it down as well.
The fit of the corset is HORRIBLE, which peeves me since she made a point about saying how she'd be working on fixing the fit of it. Yet if you look in the other photos where her arms aren't quite hiding everything, you'll see the top and bottom are both way too loose for her figure. Not to mention that it's way too low-cut for Elsa's dress anyway.

I dunno, I usually quite like Angela's stuff but this was a let-down for me. A lot of the decisions she made confused me (caulking for the bodice wtf) and I was hoping she'd make it work but... Nah.

Yeah, considering the dress itself isn't a difficult structure? The thing that makes Elsa difficult to cosplay is all the details, which Angela got wrong anyway.

>Especially with all those rhinestones?
Using all those rhinestones was just a waste of time and money anyway; it's weighing down the fabric and looks crap up close. The test shots she took of it in the sunlight looked good from a distance but up close it just looked tacky.

Just because you put a lot of effort into something doesn't necessarily mean the result is gonna be proportional to the amount of effort you invested.

The result was disappointing simply because if she's a good seamstress, she could've done so much better. The bodice doesn't fit, the cape looks like it needs more effort, the wig needs more styling and she needs to work on her poses.

She looks like she's trying to hold the bodice from falling down by covering it with a "mysterious" pose.

Actually a lot of anons are working on their own dresses and have posted pics. People just aren't as impressed by the dress as they thought they were going to be. FYI this isn't some kind of "Angela-only" costume either. There's nothing inherently difficult about making the costume. It's tougher to find fabrics that mesh together well. All you need is a fitted bodice, an a-line skirt, sleeves, cape, shoes, and wig.

It's not that hard to make a bodice that doesn't fit or to hotfix rhinestones, even hundreds of them. Trust me, all it is is time-consuming. Likewise, the entire costume isn't really difficult, it's just time consuming to make it look nicer that some slap-dash store bought piece of shit.

And to the people saying she doesn't emote? Valid points. She has that thousand-yard stare that she has made her signature look and it doesn't really work for this character. In the beginning of the film she's worried and concerned because she's hiding her powers, but by the time she flees and makes her ice castle and ice dress, she's gained confidence but is still battling old demons. Sorry but Angela has shown NEITHER of those emotions.
