My hair is super thick, and I'm thinking of styling it something old-school shoujo ojou-sama, like Nanami from Revolutionary Girl Utena.

It is! I think a lot of the time when people think "no bangs in lolita" they think gross stringy unstyled hair and it's like no no no my hair is something I'm proud of, in high school it was dyed black and people would ask if it was a wig because it's so thick.

Could someone remind me of this artist's name? Their art is perfect for this thread.

Same here, mine has needed about seven inches off of the bottom for so long now that it's gone full hobo, but then I see hers and I just can't do it. Knowing it'll grow back nicer looking isn't the point! Pic related.

i know how you feel anon, i have butt length hair and i just dont trust hairdressers anymore so i havent had it cut properly for at least a year and a half. maybe if you spend an afternoon (or more) on a decent search and destroy mission then get it layered and neatend until you're happy cutting it it might get rid of the straggly ends.

Finding a decent hairdresser for long hair is hard. I use to have hair down past my butt; I cut it though. Thin hair gets damaged too easily.

As a hairdresser though a lot my return clients happen to have ridiculously long hair. A lot of hairdressers can't relate to having hair that long. The trick is to say 'cut 7 inches/3 inches/ whatever' is a bad idea. Just comb it straight and cut the weird bits that stick past the bulk. In one place you might only have an inch, in others places 4! Then comb through the bulk and snip just the y-shaped or zigzag parts of the end. I guess it is search and destroy.

You can do it yourself, have a friend help with the very back.

I'm terrified of overzealous hairdressers too so I normally do it myself, I have the right scissors etc. I just need to... actually do it soon.
