They are called pteruges, and while it is based on the style of clothing and armour worn by the Greeks and Romans, it is a fashion known as "In Modo Antiquo" or "In the model of the ancients" which flourished in the late 15th through mid 16th centuries..

Actually, only the helm is parade. Tonlet Armour (tonlet being the skirt) was designed as tournament armour, and this was probably used with blunted polearms/swords, wooden clubs and whale-baleen wasters.

Its pretty simple:
Kingdoms: Multi state groupings, for the purposes of club territory and war

Baronies/shires ect: Multi-city groupings for individual sub-groups, to manages funds and group activites easier.

King/queen: multi-state club presidents, as elected by yearly combat by one of the pair.

Baron(ess): Multi-city club president, elected by the populous.

Many people choose a period of interest, including clothing, camp equipment craft hobbies etc. Some people just wear whatever they like or is comfy at the time. We're a medieval history themed pleasure and craft club, that likes to mass thousands of people to beat the shit out of one another with batons!

First off, if its for SCA, you need to learn the rules of the list for armour requirements

Secondly, unless you're working with a forge, you won't be smithing, but cold working. I will tell you now, it is an expensive hobby and you will fuck up. Since you are just learning, stick to 18 gauge mild, and try not to hurt yourself. It will be useless for anything but costume and larping, but its easy on the elbow and relatively inexpensive for when you do fuck up (and you will, a lot while you are learning.

My biggest suggestion is to get on the armour archive. It is the best thinktank of modern armourers and has a wealth of patterns, and people willing to give advice.

I'll try to remember that! The wars sound like such a good time. I've heard of the Pennsic war but I'm generally rather ignorant (to be fixed asap).

I realize it's not that close to your group, but do you have any impressions of Caer Adamant?

You growing up with the SCA makes sense of the hand-sewn arming coat as a Christmas present from your Mom. Not a usual gift.

I'm tempted to show my Italian gown, but as a rule don't self-post on CGL, it's just been such a delight talking to someone with historical interests for a change!

The SCA, in association with the College of Heralds, allow you to register a coat of arms that is unique and registered to you, and you alone as long as they meet 3 points of difference from any other registered arms, and follow the rules of heraldry, and modern laws.

Mine is really simple, but is uniquely mine and mine alone unless I choose to share it otherwise (like in the case of my mercs). It is an identifier for myself, my property my household etc.

Currently, I am not using my arms, as I won the position and title of champion for my local group, and thus I am a representative of them. Pic related.

Cleopatra was referred to not being that good looking in Suetonius . She was simply more exotic looking.

Messalina also was far more of a crazed sexed nympho whereas Cleopatra merely used sex as a political tool like many others. Of course, you may accept the explanation that she used sex in a similar way as she tried to find a future husband to take the Principate due to Claudius' age. I don't think it explains why she had sex with SO MANY different men, though. It's hard to say. Messalina is odd in the sense that ancient historians like Tacitus thought that the things she did were outrageous and even had to preface their work by saying "NO REALLY, THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENED I SWEAR DOWN. CROSS MY HEART AND HOPE TO DIE" which they never did with actual falsehoods in their works.

I like Messalina precisely because it's like having a modern club going type girl being married to a brutal dictator. This ,of course, is absolutely hilarious.

Cleopatra is one of those figures who is lauded over far too much. Livia is the real deal when it comes to great power and manipulation over men. That being said, I dislike Livia because I blame her for the mental breakdown of Tiberius.

Bloody Roman mothers.

Indeed, it was because she was in dire need of approval from Rome due to the internal struggles in Egypt. It was a beautiful ploy because Caesar originally planned to annex Egypt completely but instead of that he backed Cleopatra's claim on the throne. I ,personally, don't think Caesar was so stupid enough to have given her so much power merely for sex. Sex ,in the ancient world, is often used as a way to secure alliances with each other. Caesar likely just thought he could control a young woman like herself.

>> No.7311336

An interesting fact about the vibrator, it was invented to assist doctors in giving women orgasms if the doctor had wrist injuries or was very tired in stimulating a patient.

Making women orgasm was a technique used by doctors as a sort of miracle cure to women getting ill. However, it was most famously used for women's hysteria. This was a very vague condition that could vary from a woman desiring lots of sex or merely just when a woman became a bit of nuisance to her family.
