Map combat is done with dice. Individual characters are played in PnP RPG. The LARP part is for alliances, trade, negotiations, and getting shitfaced. It's a small event with the same ~200 people playing for over 10 years. Not in pic.

well, first of all, is it comfortable or not.
But it all depends on what is it for and what is it made out of.
Because it's a no fighting larp I vager that leather is an option too.
Also you don't need it to go down too much and probably you won't attach any arm armor to it either.
The neck area is kind of important, that could be fucked up easily, make sure it's not too tight.

From my role I can wear anything but matching plate (which I cannot afford anyway). I like the leather look a lot more than steel or bronze. I don't want to look like a mercenary, but my garb can look like it was collected over several cultures.

Maybe a small hard leather gorget with a few links of mail trailing down front and back, and bone pauldrons. Although I am not sure how to model convincing bone. Paper clay?

We got involved in some really bad business... really bad...
By chance (or intent?) we came in possession of a certain prisoner, a former queen, alleged witch and hoh boy did we learn stuff. I suffered some mild SAN damage which I repaired by getting drunk in the tavern, picking fights with people, none of wanted to fight and then passing out in front of our campfire.
My peace was broken by news that there was battle on the mountain.
To get un-drunk I downed my entire bottle of liquid cocaine.

It was...energetic.
But alas, the battle was over when I arrived.
I was quite miffed, and my leader told me to help clean up, but stopped me from slitting the throats of the wounded. apparently, that is not clean. So I gave one of the wounded some of that liquid co- ahem, painkiller. and helped him down.
He later joined our group (or rather, we bought out his debts to his previous mercenary company. we own him SO hard now)

Apparently one guy at the larp got the hots for her. Although the guy was on of the invalid persons so he made his move only after the larp... on the facebook page of the larp asking if anyone know the girl because he want to try and hook up with her etc etc... It was really cringe-worthy.
Moreso because I knew the girl and the fact that she has a boyfriend... who was at the larp too but in a different group. Also her boyfriend is a gladiator, as in a gladiator reenactor.

You should always look at the larps homepage if they have one and look at the pictures if they have them. Look at their forums and and conversations.
Usually you can decide from those alone if you want to go there or not.

This is a GOOD sign for the future of US larp.

"Many times the question is asked: "What should I bring to my first game?". The question is really contingent on whether or not you'll have a character ready by then. Newer players are encouraged to play an event of NPC roles to rack up some experience and get a better feel for the game. They are saying "Camouflage patterns in any form" are banned. Firstly note the 'camouflage pattern' not just 'camouflage'. Put the former term in google image search and you should see what it usually refers to. Then it is in a list that mainly deals with clothing and such. Directly below "Modern military clothing in cut or pattern".
It is safe to assume they aren't banning any attempts at camouflage alltogether but just don't want anyone running around in Flecktarn or similar.

US LARPers are starting to want more from their games which is looking really hopeful to me. I run a LARP and make costuming so I see first hand what is hopefully a revolution. More people are open to the idea of LARP so you see the community growing steadily. We do have Pansec wars but I've never been much for SCA.

Drachenfest is good. I am not such a big fan of Mythodea, but I think that's partly due to it being on the other side of Germany. Epic Empires is imo the best of the three large summer cons, mainly due to having relatively strictly themed camps that you have to apply for. Hence the average costume quality is pretty good and while there are certainly idiots around like with any other con, it imo has a smaller percentage than DF and CoM. But that might not be an objective observation.

In any case visiting one such larp at least once is an interesting experience, even if you aren't really a fan of larger cons.

We have a few groups that really raised the bar when it came to portraying orcs. Pic related. On one hand it works for having mostly very well costumed orcs these days. On the other it makes it relatively hard for someone hellbent on playing an orc as a first character.

It's not only lotr orcs really. Though on the other it is safe to assume that lotr definitely influenced the visuals of our 'regular' orcs.
It's not that we don't get the aforementioned green humans either. That's an actively used term after all. But it tends to be viewed with some negativity and you see fewer of them (especially amongs experienced players) year by year.

Nun 1(the brunette one...not that she show her hair under her coiffe ) is the first ''new nuns'
what i mean by that is there used to be wiminz in the templar but they always played ''sargeant'' wearing female armor (read here, leather boobies armor) but when She started larp 2 years ago by my fault and loved healing
she then decided to do a nun to spend time with me at larps( we have been together since 2009 ) and she became herself a highly known player at Bicolline , her suit is made by the same tailor than me (same thing goes for Ze nun 2 and all the future nun)

Nun 2 is the blond one who joined second one year after, she is a friend of mine and the first person to spend time with me at bicolline, she used to be an ork and wanted to be able to spend time with us so she decided to get a nun suit , when the orks got wind of this they threw a tantrum (actually one ork in particular who is also the leader ) and decided to ban her , she then became a full-time nun and is really happy with it

The reason why Ze nun 1 do not like (its not hate, its more of a ...it's awkawrd when they are in the same room ooc ) , is :

1- Roleplay reasons: because her character is more like mine (an agent of pure chaos under the excuse of doing it for a greater good) while ze nun 1 is pure as sunligth and the guardian of vertue and morality

2 - ooc reasons : a woman alone in a group of men , then comes another woman ...it's called jaleousy

3- my fault reasons : I love womens...all of them ,and they seems to love me too, so...


Now that it's clear i think we can continue to look at costumes and talk about larp
