Just moved up to Indiana. What are the good cons in Indy and Chicago? Someone mentioned Anime Midwest, but I heard it's kind of... huge?

Also, how hard would it be to do pic related for a first cosplay?

Engineer is pretty easy, even moreso if you go with BLU Engie.

All of it can be store bought, overalls can be bought on ebay (they have brown ones too), same with the kneepads, helmet and goggles (I bought a pair on amazon). Belts and pockets can be found in hardware stores.

Glove is an electrician's glove, so see if you can find a yellow one and paint or use some other method for the grey. Patches can be bought on places like etsy.

However, if you want to be 100% accurate it's best to hand-make everything.

I'm looking to make it "authentic," in the sense that my father works for a power company, and I can get most of the equipment. I'm thinking of making a toolbox for a basic accessory, but I don't know what to make it out of.

Will I get made fun of if I just grab a pair of overalls from Walmart?

I did an Engie cosplay recently. Carhartt has really nice work overalls, get them in dark brown if you're going for red. They have women's ones too. I got army kneepads cheap from a surplus store. NetherSparky on Etsy has really nice patches for the logos.

A lot of people miss his extension cord, I got this one (8 feet): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003OQVGRS/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i04?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Oh, I would also suggest making a non stock hat, or a weapon, or even just taking a toolbox. I made a Hot Rod and a Southern Hospitality, but it doesn't need to be fancy. Even just a Texas Ten Gallon would be cool.

What about bringing along a six-string? Would that be too much? I've got some pouches and pads from a bunch of garage sales, but they look way worn out. Also, thanks for the link!

Anime Midwest is actually kind of small. It was a nice con last year though. Acen is gigantic, but you'll probably have a good time. Just go through the program and plan out each day so you know what you want to do.

That would be awesome! Learn his theme from Meet the Engineer and play it? Oh, and make sure you get brown overalls if you're a red engie, or blue ones if you're blu. Blue overalls on Red makes no sense.

I have to go, but my steam is in the email field. Feel free to add and ask me stuff.
