Uh...okay, I'm working on this superhero universe project from /co/. One of the characters I created is this magical warrior girl from an old French aristocratic family. Since her "formal" outfit is so elaborate and theatrical, someone else on the project suggested that she'd be into fashion subcultures like lolita style stuff. I thought it was a neat idea, and so I'm doing some research. It's not like a major story element or anything, but I like to flesh out hobbies my characters have and stuff like that. It helps me figure out who they are as individuals, you know?

This is a sketch a kind artist did of her. Her look is supposed to give off kind of a "court duelist" vibe, kind of cavalier.

Lolita is a fashion that is broken down by stylistic concerns. Gothic lolita, the one you ask about, is a style that is marked by a use of a darker palette and more "Dark" themes. The oft used themes of gothic lolita include topics such as religion (esp the catholic faith and many gothic lolita love using rosary and even nun type aesthetics see: >>7295168), death, monsters (usually vampires see: >>7294982); magical or even alchemical themes, and music. One common mistake is that gothic outfits can only be black, this is not the case in lolita any more than it is in western gothic. Another mistake is that gothic is a gloomy style however i am sure that a quick perusal of the images offered during the lifespan of this thread should impress how wrong that would be. If there is any inspiration that you are looking for re: types of dresses then places like hellolace and lolilibrary are good in terms of stock pictures to see how the dresses are actually put together.

Yeah, she wears pants to duel in. But I figured when she's not busy doing that, she'd want to feel like a princess in fancy dresses.
