Can I ask for hat construction/identification help? Or maybe this would be better for the crafting thread, but I don't even know what to call it.

I want to try to make myself a hat that I'm having a hard time describing even with some similar pictures, so pic related is visual aid.

It's like a garden party kind of hat I've seen in I think mostly rococo outfits, but I feel like I've seen it in turn of the century outfits as well. It sits on the side of the head but isn't flat, it does have an actual part of the hat that goes over the skull (not sure of the terminology, sorry) and doesn't have a chinstrap/ribbon, as far as I can tell it would have been pinned to the head. It was shaped somewhat like a wide brim floppyhat, but it seems a little more rigid, though not always straw. And then it would have florals and feathers piled onto it.

Does anyone have any idea of the hat I'm trying to make? Or is it an amalgamation of various hat styles?

All I can think of is the 'Gainsborough hat' or possibly you might find information on it as a 'picture hat', originally worn by the Duchess of Devonshire for a portrait sitting for Thomas Gainsborough, it then grew in popularity and has made reappearances in fashion since then, I believe.

I would recommend vintage shops, and taobao. You can find some glorious old hats.

Historically? I think they might have used a straw base and covered it (I could be completely off though, I only did a quick search) the american duchess blog has a tutorial for something like this. Now a days you could probably use anything that is sturdy enough to create the shape you wanted, depending on how confident you are, see if you can find any millinery stores online in your area/country and have a lok and see what they have that could be used, you might also need them for sourcing the plumage you might be after.

What does it mean to "get your nails done" exactly? Whats the difference between this phrase and a "manicure" if there is one?
Is it where they polish and sand down your nails, or is that the thing where they glue fake nails on?
I kinda wanna try getting some cute fake nails applied professionally first before I try the home kits. I work in food service which includes lots of movement but a lot of the girls at my place come to work with these pretty fake nails and I'm starting to recognise the importance of having pretty nails with a coord..

Can fancy huge hats be pulled off without very voluminous hair? I want one like OP but my hair isn't very thick when pulled up (I get all the unwanted frizz but only slight waves of thicker hair), and isn't really long enough to be impressive down, but I really dislike wigs.
