I still get a wonderful thrill from completing a cosplay of a character I adore.
When I go to a con it's great when people want pics and that's fun and makes me feel great for having made something others like too. Then we can talk about the show/game/character for a sec and that's fun

Yaya's been backstabbing long before HoC. Her roommate made her costumes, then she wore them to cons and took all the credit for making them. She also stripped, lied about stripping, and got huge tits stapled onto herself. There's also been mention of her previous marriage only being for her to get her green card since her visa expired and she cheated on her husband, but I never found a lot of evidence beyond /cgl/ rumors. Basically they weren't told in advance that they needed to do a skit, and they were expecting small-con competition. The groups that showed up from HOC looked like professionals with big costumes and did major skits rather than just walk-ons. The other contestants thought they were planted there by the network. What was said as "out-of-towners" on TV was actually "Go home SyFy plants!" but they dubbed over it so that the network name wouldn't be part of it. This shit was all over Tumblr a few months ago. The people who were involved in that argument were defending themselves long before that episode even aired, knowing that they would be portrayed poorly. They were mainly frustrated because it felt like they were up against professionals and didn't stand a chance.

A crowd of people will always want to put someone on the pedestal to admire in some form or fashion; be it for looks, skill, talent, blind luck or sometimes for the dumbest thing ever. It also gives people a target for some good old fashioned hatorade, to point out all the flaws that make those up on that pedestal seem...well nothing special really.

I don't take part in cosplaying, I mostly help friends with props and anything paint related due to my profession so I see this community from different perspective. Some of the work done by you guys is impressive and at times is more so with the shoe string thin budget and experience of the individual. I'm hoping the people who actively craft cosplay continue to do so as it will help grow their skill and develop a "new guard" of cosplay skill. It'll be fun seeing more and more people who crank out "pro" tier costumes and props and who the next wave of cosplay celebrities are.
