Ugh. Honestly, I'm a little chubby. I was a very active child and used to ride horses at least three hours a day and was a junior hunter-jumper champion.
And then I had a kidney surgery that meant I couldn't ride horses anymore. Keeping active was hard, and soon I just stopped and my depression just took over me. It doesn't help that I have fibromyalgia now. I gained weight and I didn't look good, and I was barely within the BMI "healthy" region. I didn't want to do anything and I felt gross and ate whatever I wanted.
Luckily I have a brother who really cares about me and made me get up and do things. It started slow, but it got more rigorous as time went by. It really sucked and still sometimes suck. But the fact is I feel better now and feel like I'm almost ready to start cosplaying and maybe getting back into lolita. It's hard to push yourself and get healthy, but if you don't, it will get harder, and you'll end up never wanting to do it and being an obese fat lump of disgusting.
Anyway, here's a cosplay of my favorite movie/book/manga and it makes my stomach turn every time I see it.

This photo has me even more concerned, to be honest. The stretch marks are very unattractive. Due to the high amount of fat, the midsection has lost all of its shape. It's just straight up and down.
The photo's subject was so concerned about looking bad she had to use a filter to hide some of the imperfections. That is troubling.

Well, you just have to work hard.
If you want to lose weight, get to work on exercising and making any necessary changes to your diet.

Either way, you simply need to put your best effort into your cosplay. Make sure your costume is of the best quality it can be and isn't ill-fitting. Do nice makeup that shows off your face's best features and fits the character.
Use nice wigs.
If someone's a fan of something you cosplay, they'll love it even if you're bigger as long as you can make it look great. Don't get too down on yourself. Just do your best to look nice.

I've been working on my outfit for this year's a-con for so long now, trying to make it less cringy, and really diving into the culture, rather than doing what other people are doing with steampunk, doing what it actually is this time around, I feel like people on this thread are incredibly thin, and called fat, so what does that make me, a landwhale?

Maybe I shouldn't even go at all. Not even trying to fish, just...ugh, fuck everything.

Hey, just going to say, what counts most is confidence in your own body. I know /cgl/ has a reputation for hating landwhales, but being chubby doesn't equal being a landwhale. Landwhales are generally associated with having a shitty attitude, being entitled, "muh curves," etc. Everyone is built differently anyway, and if you happen to be a bit overweight so what? Wear stuff that fits and that you love (and cliche though it may be) fuck the people that tell you off for not having some idealized body.

Rant aside, at the very most you are a bit fluffy, not really overweight at all. You look great, cosplay what you want. Best way to gain /cgl/ favor if that's what you want is to make sure everything fits and flatters your body shape.

You're not fat. You look slightly chubby, but not fat. /cgl/'s standards of weight are fucking ridiculous.

But your outfit really doesn't look so great.

You say you're "really diving into the culture," but it doesn't show in your outfit at all. Whether you're going for a more victorian look or a more western look, you're not achieving it. Honestly that dress looks more like steampunk hobo than anything else.

Your skirt needs to be fuller, and needs some kind of actual shape. Your top should really be a corset, because it looks a bit tight and it's making you look like a tube. I don't understand why you think a gold painted nerf gun is a good idea either, because it has literally nothing to do with actual steampunk.

You claim to be diving into the culture and not doing "what other people are doing with steampunk," but if that were the case, you'd look like you just stepped out of a victorian-era steam world. And you don't.

You're cute, and you have a lot of potential, and it kind of makes me sad to see you wasting it on such a generic, OMG STEAMPUNKZ!!! kind of outfit.

Good steampunk is steampunk that doesn't try so hard to toss gears onto everything, but rather tries to embody the aesthetics of the era while adding those elements tastefully that make it steampunk.

Let's be entirely honest. In a world where we rely on steam power, why would we all glue fucking gears to our hats?

I'm going for something this time around, more western, so I"ll probably get some kind of settlers dress, or something, and make it kind of inspired by that. The top is a cincher.

I"m getting rid of that hat, period. It does nothing for me, and it most certanly isn't part of my outfit. I've got a mash of different things going on there. I know it's a mess, I"m working on it.

Oh, and I"m ditching the nerf gun. Probably going to get a revolver, that works with steam, and then I'm making a gauntlet, that's going to be like an exoskeleton type thing, all with a more western feel to it.

Yo, I'm from /fit/. While I understand and support your goal of wanting to lose weight in a short span of time, make sure you do it properly. Don't do it through starvation; proper changes diet and lifestyle are key. Also, losing all that weight quickly won't be good for the eyes, that's how loose skin comes about. Try to do a few pounds a week, don't be in such a rush! I live in America and go on Tumblr daily so I see overweight people and fat acceptance everyday and I hate the bullshit that praise people for living unhealthy lifestyles.
