I concur. I also don't consider people who are showing me their sexuality and that they're sexual beings to be sexual objects. I think it says more about the person looking at people and thinking they're a sex object than the person being called a sex object if that's how they choose to think of them.

Because 195,000 years ago up until very recently human females survived and passed on their genetics by acting like sex objects. get that into your brain. up until the last 100 years or so a woman's survival and her children's survival was better suited to her acting like an object without agency.

So now humans have reached a point in their evolution where the labor required to maintain their lifestyle is not potentially fatal. Compared to say 200 years ago, we value jobs that do not require a lot of physical effort to accomplish enough that women can do them, and do them well.

Hell as a species we even value a woman being sexually attractive and flaunting it in costumes enough to pay her just to do that without any realistic chance of sleeping with her. because it is something she has to actively work at to give that visual impression. that and people taking the pictures and making he costumes.

I'll share a story to illustrate a little about how we precieve others in clothing. Years ago I had to sit on a jury at my local courthouse. the trial we were picked for involved a young mid 20's black man and he was being charged with some rather minor violation that i won't get into the details of here. Long story short when he comes to the court room he is wearing a bright green jersey, designer matching baggy jeans, a hat worth $300 and what i can only assume is his best jewelry.

The judge takes one look at him as do many people on the jury and levels this look of distaste for the man that colored the entire tone of his hearing. To him, he was dressed in his best cloths, his most expensive nice shirt and everything. but because of the cultural gap from everyone else they precieved it differently as combative or confronting the authority.

The fact is that the communities are different, and value things differently. Brands can be a big deal in the ita community, where as cosplay doesn't really -have- them at all. A large part of cosplay, as judged by the community, is the creation. Now, I disagree with the idea that you shouldn't wear a costume you didn't make (it's a hobby after all, and some people enjoy dressing up more than making the costumes, and that's perfectly fine) but swapping tips about sewing and prop creation and fabric and such is a big part of what cosplayers talk about compared to itas talking about the same thing.
