Being killed by a "spell" can mean that you were just hit with a beanbag. No way to block it.

Back in the day I used to make flashpaper "bombs" it was a little ball of tissue paper with a pinch of gunpowder wrapped up inside. The effect was quite cool where i could light them in my hand with a pair of fire resistant gloves then toss a little fireball into the air where it would flare up then catch it as it dropped back down. Simple magic tricks and pyrotechnics made playing a mage fun.

This is why I haven't really gotten into it, either. There's chapter near me, but they're a predominantly combat game as far as I can tell. Dudes in sweatpants and tabard with boffer weapons bashing each other senseless in a local park, and sometimes they go to large meets. I think a few players play non-human characters (I think I saw a female goblin? I couldn't really tell).

I'd love to find a game that's more roleplay than smash n' bash, but my local NERO chapter is pretty far out too and I haven't heard anything about them.

Player realism. There are no stats, classes or numbers in Lost Stories & Dark tales, so there is no way to accurately par the difference between species. That, and Elves and Dwarves are absolutely alien in their world view, mindset and actions. Like monsters, this is a job for NPCs to help set the mood.

The facebook group is in the email field if you want to look up the rules. The first couple of trial games went amazingly, and we're looking forward to a 40+ person next month, if we can schedule it.

I am fairly certain LS&DT is the only larp to have real (harmless!) traps for you to find/avoid, and a nine foot tall wyvern with an 18 foot wing span that is almost finished.

The last game, my players learned to fear the smell of blood and manic giggling. Don't go into the woods alone.

Hey Chaps - I like making chainmail for medieval reenactment and whatnot, I'd like to get into making Scale Mail (metal type) but I'm having trouble sourcing a provider.

I'm a UK resident and The Ring Lord wants to charge around £130 (~$180) shipping just for a basic vest package. Does anybody know of any other places I can acquire scales?

Large pref (1 inch or so)

Thanks

there is no list that has all the larps. nor even a list that has the majority of larps. There are lists here and there but larps in general are independent.
Exceptions exist of course for example NERO has chapters all over the US, although it's quality is questionable at best

I thought about doing that myself, though I have very shaky hands so some form of pre-fabricated scale would be preferable.

Though I suppose purchasing the sheets and looking for a company that provides laser cutting may be possible.

Does anybody know of any other retailers that either are based, or ship very cheaply to the UK?

If you can get your shaky hands on a guillotine, that'll make it an absolute breeze. I use a big ol' sheet cutting one, but any size which cuts thin metal will work accurate each time.
Otherwise yea, getting the metal and having someone else cut it should still be cheaper.

Men's or Woman's? and what period are you looking for?

Early medieval, mid or late, tudor period, generic fantasy?

I make most of my garb now but for a long time I shopped around for good quality stuff. Some companies are better than others. and some should be avoided.

Some of the best corsets come from Needle Fairy and Damsel in this dress while for men's clothing there are options but you find a lot og generic mixed stuff.

Also since the clothing you're trying to make comes from an era of only handmade clothing existing, patterns are really easy to find and make.

Steel Mastery also makes some very nice custom clothing, but it's not pre-made. takes a while to get to you.

If you want decent quality off the shelf items "Museum Replicas" clothing that isn't costume grade is pretty sturdy. Avoid boots and cheep cloting from larp sites.

Ok this is bugging me. I see these clasps on corsets all the time now and I don't understand how they stay hooked. I had a few little jewelry chests with the same exact clasps and they didn't hold together for shit if it tipped over on the floor. I have a bodice I bought years ago at the local fair, back before I knew shit about corsets. Lady selling it said multiple times that it was a real corset, that it would be perfect for me, and charged me $200 for it. Turned out to be only two layers of fabric (the fashion fabric and lining) and plastic boned, with one very very thick bone down either side of the front and then only six thinner plastic bones dispersed through sides and back. The thick bones wore right through the lining at the bottom too. I ended up gutting it after getting my real corset ($250 for a five layer steel boned bullet proof monster of a corset thanks to a sale) and now its just a very fancy vest.

the greenwich armor album. All of my want.

After King Henry the Fat dies and Elizabeth is left as the virgin queen she opens the greenwich armory to have wealthy men commission armor for themselves at her court. The equivalent of millions of dollars spent to buy high fashion armor for a moment of the queen's attention.

A piece like that is sculpture, as if to say "look at what we can do with this metal, isn't it fucking awesome?!

the Red color is a substitute for Blue, Blue dye and paint being more expensive to produce this was used to mark where the metal would be blued on the finished piece.

actually existed but not as a functional armor. You could call it a sculpture that a blacksmith made. As I said it was to show how fucking rich (and by the extension of that how powerful) you are. And sometimes it helped the blacksmith too so he could show that yes he is so good that he can make something like this.

Also those two pieces are from the Nuremberg museum or from the Genf museum if I remember correctly. Could be wrong.

>>7256057
yes, but the greenwich armory was a special case because it was more or les Henry's own "playground" as he was kind of an armor (and fighting) fanatic. Rich people always bought expensive (and best) armors to show off. Then again it had a little more practicality back than. It basically show that you are so powerful that it doesn't really worth it to fuck with you

Overly shaped 'armor' like that is weak everywhere it divots or folds or curves inwards. Most male armor accommodated well enough for breasts as it is, because they curved outwards (an outwards curve will deflect blows far better than a flatter one) and were meant to be worn with padding underneath for added protection. Plus a full length iron skirt would be incredibly heavy and impossible to ride a horse in. Even the split skirts like Saber wears would be pretty difficult and more likely to slice, spear, or otherwise hurt your horse (and you can bet anyone with enough money to afford that armor would be on a horse)
