I'm not at all happy with the sleeves. I'll probably take them out and re-do them with pleats instead of gathers after it's graded for my final. The pannier is still being a little bitch and I'm not sure how to fix it.

I used 24 yards of steel hoop boning. I might cross-stitch on some more to reinforce the parts where it's bowing in (that or figure out a way to slip some dowel rods into the boning channels)- Do you think that would work?

A bit nitpicky, but I feel like you could clean up the paint job on the centre part - the red part is wavy. Maybe try blocking it off with painter's tape as a stencil? You did a really good job on the crafting of the actual blade, but I feel like this is just one last thing you'd need for it to be really fantastic.

Oh wow, no idea. I haven't actually made a hoop skirt yet, I'm still just researching. I'd guess that reinforcing the boning would help- I think the dowel rods would work. 14 gauge galvanized steel wire might work too, I use it for fairy wings. It won't flex without losing its shape though, so it would be hard to fold for storage.

Keep posting progress of this, it looks great so far!

Skirt for a madoka school uniform!

I'm hoping to finish the outfit in time for the movie this weekend but I'm not even sure I'm going so I'm not really concerned with hurrying this project along. I kinda just wanted something insignificant to sew.

First time making a pleated skirt and I'm thankful for the plaid's design as it served as a stellar guideline for my folds.

I have to agree with voldie on this one. Most of the time when you make a prop or piece of armor it looks bad without some sort of weathering, regardless of if the source has it perfectly clean. While the main purpose of weathering is obviously to make the piece look used and worn, it also adds dimension to the piece and accents edges which is extremely important, especially on a prop that is mostly just one or two colors.

On my end, i finished the winter soldier arm ive been working on. Im pretty happy with how it turned out, especially considering that theres a total of like three refrence pictures of the thing available right now. The guy who commissioned me for it specifically wanted the design from the new captian america movie and since its not out yet, i had to build it based on a few stills that got leaked a while back.

Try to keep the weathering in tight spots like between the spikes or in the ring center where it would be harder to reach with cleaning. Large flat surfaces would be easy to clean and would not get that much buildup and just makes the gold paint looks like blah brass. Not as bad as in this pic but still. Leona is typically glowing/pristine in her art, but it's fine to put in weathering in tight spots where the blood/dirt/grass would get stuck.

A lot of other cons don't have specific size requirements, but do have rules against props that are hard to control, or obstruct doorways. That thing will be hard enough fitting through doorways, and the blade might not be in your range of vision at all times.

I'm not binding because it'd show through the heart cutout in the back. I figured it was a worthwhile compromise. The jewels will be last. I need to sew close the lining at the skirt

>>7250296

I'm going to work on resewing it a little. I probably won't bone it though. Not enough time/energy/enthusiasm. The way I constructed it, i'm not sure how much more I can take it in. There's an under-sleeve side zipper and it's kind of hard to get out of already. Even though there's some things that could be fixed, I'm kinda happy with it, and live and learn right? Trim them a little so they don't have to curl in that much to complete the curl.

Also tease the base of the curl just a little, then warm it up with a blowdryer a little and hold the hair UP as it cools.

Then you can curl it under like you want and have it keep its proper shape and stay up.

So a friend of mine that im going to ohayocon with convinced me the other day to make him a shredder cosplay for the con. I probably shouldnt have agreed to this early of a deadline (less than 30 days at this point) but whatever, ill get it done. Just finished the construction of the helmet tonight, and i also have the shins, forearms, and part of the shoulder pieces built. Im going all EVA foam for this thing, cause i really cant spare the time for pepping, fiberglass, and bondo like i would normally do. Plus i think EVA is better suited for this job anyway. Next step is to wire up two red LEDs behind the visor to act as his glowing eyes, then ill paint. Still trying to decide how i want to go about weathering and battle damaging this thing though. Its pretty untouched in the cartoons, but it wouldnt look right if i didnt beat it up at least a little. Also i know i remember someone on here doing a shredder cosplay too a while back, so if youre reading this and have any tips or things to watch out for that you picked up you doing your build, i would love to hear them!

Finished my Mamimi cosplay besides some handsewing on the bag and getting my undershirt and painting a star on it.

It was a bitch and a half painting the plaid on that skirt. I tried using Jaquard fabric paint and painters tape and the shit kept bleeding out no matter what I did. Even after I let it sit for over 24 hours and heat set the paint, it started bleeding again when I starched my skirt. I tried to save it as much as I could for ALA, but I'm gonna def remake it before Sakuracon. Thinking about making an image and getting fabric from spoonflower, but do any Seagulls have advice or paints they have used for successful custom plaid so I can weigh my options?

I didn't use it for plaid specifically, but I've had good luck with So Soft fabric paint. It has a thickness more like acrylic, so it doesn't tend to bleed, but it might take a couple coats depending on how absorbent your fabric is.

I did a custom plaid for my Kaiji shirt that year we did the genderbend with spoonflower, it worked pretty good.

If I did it all over again, I'd probably try oversaturating the colors and ordering more samples. It doesn't print as rich as the original from the start, and then when I washed the fabric it faded more. Can't even skip the wash step because it totally gets all over your hands if you don't.

My first attempt I did too tiny of curls and it turned out tooo poofy so I washed it out, straightened it, trimmed the ends and recurled with big fat foam rollers and the boiling water method! All I have left to do is curl the bangs a bit, but they are soo thick!!

I don't know, does anyone have any suggestions? well i'm guessing you're going for the jim lee look, the pointy parts at the top are more angled.

i wish i could show you......

but it's (the pointy parts at the top) too high up instead it should be closer into the brow area (about half an inch), specifically the first "step" from the nose out.

the mask seems like it would get too close to the hair line and in the comics he has more distance between his hair and the end of the mask.

i hope it makes sense to you, it's a great costume to cosplay imo and i think you did a great job so far.

I've been using this as the reference, but I definitely think that you're right about the bigger pointy part and that it needs to be angled inward a bit more. they are too straight up. I might keep them the length they are tho cause they do go pretty close to the hair line. Maybe with the angle change it'll be look so high. I'm not entirely sure what to do about the smaller point parts because the reference material seems to change a fair bit depending on the angle and panel.

thanks for the input. I really appreciate the help cause i feel like i've taken way longer on this than i should.

The holidays are finally over and I can finally start working on this again. Skirt armor parts are pretty much ready. The rear plate needs some more paint and needs boosters & lights put in.

Unfortunately I am out of money at the moment due to holiday expenses. Ill have to work on what I can till I get the chance to buy the plastic sheets I need to move on to the torso, legs and shouldera.

I started remaking Riven's waist piece more like a corset so the fabric will sit better. I want some opinions though, should I reduce some of the point at the top or leave it as it is? Keep in mind the point will be reduced somewhat since I haven't lined it yet.

I would remove it completely, just have it go under the bust completely since your ref doesn't really have the point there!

Going to add a zipper in the back, but it's done otherwise. Still kind of rushed through it, but it looks better than the first.

Working on the glowing eyes for shredder. This is by far my favorite part of the build, i love electronics work. I also got most of the torso done today, but im not very happy with the current state of it, so itll probably get revamped at some point here.

Very early stages but I just started working on building a Thunder Hammer for my Space Marine cosplay. The hammer is looking to be about 1.75m tall.

I was supposed to cosplay Chun Li at ALA but my wig took a shit and didn't work. So last minute switch and I'm doing Alt Makoto from SSF4. I started this yesterday so I didn't have time to make the perfect plaid for it. But I think it looks ok! I'm out to get shoes and bandages now and when I get home I'm gonna style my wig.
