It's been a while since our last room thread.
Cute room inspiration, storage solutions, organization tips, all that good stuff.
I'm personally in need of some tiny room inspiration. My room is 9' 4" by 11', with a tiny closet and I can't seem to get it organized properly.

I feel you, OP. My room is 7.5' x 11.5' with no closet. I am basically living in a walk in closet.

My room is incredibly messy at the moment due to being busy/stressed with finals and not taking the time to tidy up, so I won't post a picture.
I would recommend investing in shelves and little wall hooks and just making the best use of your vertical space as possible. I also use ikea's ekby alex as a desk, because it doesn't take up much space but can still fit my laptop, books, etc.

Its nice to hear of other loli in similar situations, my place is also bloody tiny. im usually in classic/ gothic so i found some cool vintage suitcases a while ago and relined them. Now my blouses and accessories (socks, tights, scarves; ect...) go in the suitcases while my dresses hang in what i jokingly refer to as a closet.

I feel you. I'm splitting a 36" wide closet in half with my husband. I've built two top layers of shelving(I keep petticoats on one, and extra sheets and towels on the other.

My closet has the shutter looking doors, so I took one of these, slipped it onto one of the slats, and I hang my lolita blouses on the inside of the door so there's a little more breathing room in the closet. It's made to hang off your toilet tank, but it actually holds quiet a few coat hangers.

Your room measurements are similar to mine. The closet sounds alike too. I miss my old apartment. The room was smaller, but the bed was a twin instead of a queen/full sized one and it was already lofted, and the closet was wider with built in storage shelves.

If your closet doesn't have lighting, you should probably put a touch-light where you can reach. I find that placing light in a small space makes everything feel bigger. Lofting your bed should help give you space for things you don't want seen (luggages, make up kit, shoe drawers). Shabby chic sells cute bedskirts to hide the ugly bed loft blocks and stuff underneath.

You could also maximize your closet space with a multiple garment hanger and store your jewelry in a jewelry hanger. It's not as fun as having them displayed on a vanity table, but it's a good space saver.

My old desk had one of those modesty panels (?) so nothing could really go beneath it. I had these really ugly wire baskets by my desk that held some of my art supplies (I ran out of room beneath my bed) so now it's all been moved into the shelving beneath my desk.

It's a bitch to put up - a lot of it will stretch and distort as you unroll, which leaves you with wavy edges and tons of stubborn air bubbles if you don't take your time. Also, be careful calculating how much you need. It took nearly three rolls to cover just one super tiny wall, as it tends to be narrower than normal wallpaper. On the plus side, it's really easy to take down. Be sure you are buying the removable kind, not just 'adhesive'

Contributing my half of my dorm room (or, one of its incarnations).

Unfortunately, it's pretty bland.

And my room at my parents house is an absolute shithole of misery and disgusting mess. They keep dumping stuff in it. So I'm not really much help here. All of these rooms are great, though...

Where do we even start? Tbh I would've thought you needed to tidy your dresser/bedside/shelves if I walked in and saw them.
Essentially, everything looks cluttered and a bit tacky.
For example, on the chest you have a whole lot of colours that are super jarring - the warmth of the orangey cover and the chess board and the bronzey light thing vs. cool toned bottles, very stark bright white candles and silver items, but the cool toned items aren't even placed together so instead of having deliberate contrast it's like random jarring areas. Then you have about four "tall" items, but instead of creating one or two focal groups you've got them randomly placed so the eye doesn't focus on anything, and then a chess board that doesn't quite fit on the table along with other scattered crap. These are pretty much the same issues with all of your room "displays"/areas. The dresser, for example - again you've got that weird tall items drawing the eye all over the place, the red candles which seem like they want to be a focal point are placed randomly and go from being in awesome candle holders to looking like shit in bottles. The half filled bottle makes no sense but draws the eye anyway and then suddenly on the left of it you've got this drop in space that makes no sense with a picture frame that is screaming to be about 3 times the size to fill in the space.

This is why anons haven't given you any crit - because you basically need to start over, cut the number of items down and cut the clutter, then think about how you group them and how the colours actually match (or don't, in most of the pictures)

YOu know, that's what I always disliked about some bedding sets or display setups that have an ungodly number of pillows on them. You don't need to display 8 pillows on a bed for it to look nice. The bedding set my mother-in-law gave us came with extra decorative pillows and I ended up putting them on the couch.

Can you anons help me with tips on how to kawaii-fy our apartment?
My bf absolutely doesn't give a shit as long as it isn't pink and girly, and "doesn't mind" it being messy and drab while I keep losing my mind about it. Just looks poor and sad, is all.
Our apartment is white, like a hospital, and we aren't allowed to paint anything or change furniture. We just moved in and it looks empty and ugly. Any ideas on how to spice it up for cheap without it needing too much extra maintenance?

Thanks in advance!

Put fabric in frames for the walls. You just make a rectangle (some fabric stores have pre-made ones) and staple the fabric around. Ebay and ikea are great for unique fabric

You can get/make slip covers for your furniture if it doesn't all match. Or get cute throws to put over the back + matching pillows.

Put down an area rug, even if you have carpet. I'm betting the floors are beige, and that's dull.

Put things on the top of bookcases and cabinets. Get cute lampshades. Put plants in pretty pots. Hang wreaths of dried flowers on your doors.

I'd suggest putting a drape or curtain type thing across the front of the wall unit to hide the clutter. Most of your furniture looks quite nice but because you're using that one for storage, you could either use an accent colour or stick with grey, maybe in a microsuede type fabric. I would stick with grey since there's one of your accent colours (white) on the wall right there.
I think the blue's going to be hard to bring in next to the wooden furniture so it's probably best brought in through an entire re-do of your bedding, maybe charcoal for the duvet and then a mix of greys with a pop of blue and white for the pillows. I'd also suggest covering the bedside shelf and switching out the lamp for one that's more in keeping with your themes.

It's pretty easy to do it yourself, and replace with click flooring (fake hardwood). I've done it before with a professional company and it's honestly just a matter of taking off baseboard and pulling the carpet up, then using a crowbar to take the tack strips off. Sometimes you get lucky and find gorgeous hardwood under it.

Hardwood is better in the end anyway, because we always find huge pet stains (even from people who swear their pet has never ever peed in the house) under carpeting and it's kind of unsanitary and gross. basically anything that gets spilled on it never goes away. ever.

When I think of throw pillows, I think it usually refers to a smaller pillow or two you have on your couch. I believe another word for them is accent or decorative pillows. They're pretty much just there to look pretty. Like in this picture. Though we got in the habit of using them when we napped on the couch.

Designers seem to have this weird thing where on beds they'll have like 8 pillows, and half of those will just be accent pillows. My in-laws have several on their bed too and they always have to take them off the bed and put them on a bench at the foot of the bed every night before they go to sleep.

I'd love to have a room like that to store my books. I live with my parents and the bedroom I use is very small, so just a twin size bed and my drafting table take up half the space in it (I have no idea how my sister and I managed to share it for twelve years). I have two bookcases that can fit a ton of manga but I have to sell the old ones ocasionally to avoid cluttering up my room.

I think the two biggest problems I have are the boxes for my figurines taking up space in my closet and this big bereau I use for pants and underwear. There'd be a lot of room in the closet to put those clothes if the boxes weren't there.

I've been investing in these teacup shelves (pic related) at thrift shops, and similar ones. They're really nice for relatively small toys and figures. Alright guys, I am redecorating a spare bedroom in the house to be my lolita/sewing room. Earlier this year I had painted it a really dark purple and now I am kicking myself. It makes the room look really closed in, and with dark paint it's easier to see mistakes I made. I had bought Ali Project's new album and am thinking of using the jacket liner as color inspiration. Right now my closet is full of an array of mismatched hangers. I would love to make them match, but I heard that some types of hangers are better than others for certain types of clothes. Since 1/3 of my closet is lolita, I guess it would be good to get velvet or satin. Velvet are cheaper, so I was thinking I would get those for my normal clothes and satin for my lolita clothes. I think satin hangers are adorable, but I can't afford to fill my closet with them. Is my idea tacky? Should I just stick to velvet? Also what to do about clothes that need clips such as skirts?

I generally see it in either catalog, set, or occasionally on redecorating shows. My inlaws are the only ones I've seen that usually have the over excess of throw pillows on their beds. I think there's a big difference between pillows you use, and pillows that are just there that get tossed off later. I know people who have an extra pillow or two. Like with body pillows and having some to prop between your knees for support.

>>7256966
My closet is generally filled with basic white plastic coat hangers, some wooden ones(for like my husband's suit jacket and heavy coats) I've actually been wanting a few satin pillows.

Also, skirt wise, I usually use the basic clip on pant style coat hangers you get from the store. I also have some of these on hand too since they're made to slip onto plastic coat hangers. The only thing I don't like about them is their tendancy to slide, so you want to make sure you have some type of stopper to keep them from sliding.

But they are nice to have because you could always add a middle one for heavier skirts. Not to mention sometimes I use them to clip bags of stuff like chips closed.

I'm not allowed to rip it up or anything, I'm only here for 6 months and can't afford to splash out huge amounts on flash rugs, and the floor space is about 3 x 4m although I could get away not covering the area by the desk/table which takes a bit off

Well I do both lolita and cosplay (2-3 times a year), In my room I store the majority of my supplies and my lolita wardrobe, along with my normalfag stuff. I also rent my place so no painting the walls, which means everything is creamy beige.

I have next to my bed my book cases, they are in a similar set up to the one I posted above except, the boxes are on the top shelves and the books/dvd/ bigger items that can be stored on their own on the bottom.

The majority of my furniture is chocolate brown IKEA uses, the only thing not from there is the lolita chair I brought from a antique dealer.

With my classical room, the color scheme was cream, brown, gold with floral accents (dusty pinks, apricots and moss greens) used on the bed spread, light blocking fabric, fancy cushion for fancy chair.

As I've been changing in my tastes, my color scheme will go towards a cream, brown-red, gold and plum with a gypsy feel and baroque patterns. Ideally I'd like to paint my furniture black but I don't know when I'll find the time.

What can I help you with in your room? What look are you wanting to achieve and do you lolita or cosplay too?

I need some room help as well! I moved into my own place and I have this really nice big room, but I just can't figure out what I want to do with it.

Immediate things I want to do are; paint that stupid blue wall, replace the courtain, hide all the cables and fix the lighting problem (the lamp is the only source of light in the room)

It's in a dark corner so it never really gets that much light. Which I think is a big issue as well because I want my room to be light and comfy.

Do you guys have any suggestions as to what I should add to my room? I really like rooms like >>7247213 , >>7250444 , and those white, kinda minimalistic rooms that are pretty in right now.

What I was thinking of doing is adding a gauzy white curtain above my bed, adding a lot of shelving to the wall opposite my closets and making the wall opposite my wardrobe into just a big mess of framed prints, pictures and paintings I have. I also have the right hand corner right next to my wardrobe which is completely empty (currently have just empty storage stuff there) and I don't know what to put there. I was thinking it would be a really cute place for a dressform where I can show off my cosplay/lolita? Or put in another lamp there since my room is so friggin dark.

Also, sorry for the large image!

Get a mini coffee table???
with hammer nails and saw you could even make it cheaper, building your own coffee table with tiling on top is 10th grade woodshop challenge

I always thought I should build my kotatsu. I mean it's basically a slightly advanced coffee table.

Why the fuck is this a question? I mean, isn't the only answer to buy more rilakkuma stuff and replace your random stuff with it?

i mean like what sort of rilakkuma themed things should i get? i ordered a rilakkuma hamper and jewellery box, but there might be other things i can get that aren't plushies.

What size is your bed? Maybe you could get a Rilakkuma bed set! There are king/queen sets on eBay.

How about everything? If it exists, Rilakkuma has his face on it. Bed sheet and an area rug will immediately dominate your room with Rilakkuma.

The Container Store. But generally look for acrylic container things with shelves. Go on youtube and search "make up storage" and you will get so many great and neat ideas.

Am I the only one that hates plushies and other assorted stuffed things? They make a room look so cluttered and take up so much space. With my home, I have a general rule that if it doesn't have a use, I shouldn't keep it. I have friends who keep 30+ teddies on their bed and either sleep amongst them or move them to the floor each night. Decorative statues and figurines annoy me too. I don't mind things that look cool or are decorated provided they have a use (I have dinner candles that are shaped in weird and fabulous ways). I dunno. It just sort of makes me feel swamped when I see so many stitched or plastic faces looking at me in a room.

Rilakkkuma bedding and a coordinating couch cover for your loveseat- doesn't have to be character one, just a coordinating color works. I'd replace the chalkboard with a big poster or something and I think it'll pull together well. You just really need some more color in there.

I'm actually becoming more the same way. I used to have way more plushies and now I've phased most of them out. I have a total of 6 of them out. One is a teddy bear on my bed my husband gave me back when we were dating, a stuffed lion from when I was a baby, and a set of Prinnies from Disgaea. Any others are being stored away/given away/sold/etc....

Does anyone have a lolita inspired dorm room? I'm moving into a dorm next year and I was looking for some inspiration. I'm planning on getting a dress form. Is there anything else anyone would recommend?

Would not recommend a dress form unless your dorm room is large and/or you have a single room. I used to have a lot of posters and cute rug and pillows (for both bed and chair) to make my room cute. Nothing ott because I shared a small room with another person.

Sorry for the late reply, I had a long work shift.
Try moving your bed to the other side of the room (see pic)

As for making the room cute, do you want lolita cute or female otaku cute?
And what colors are your walls?

1: pick your theme- be it sanrio character, anime, type of character (moe girls etc), lolita style, print or fav brand.
2: pick your color scheme and be honest with yourself about whether you would want this style of room in a few years as re-decorating is expensive and be able to re-purpose items makes the costs a lot smaller.

Lolita cute:
eg. chocolate print room! main colors I would use is brown, pink, cream with gold.
find a choc print rug, bedding or throw blanket. Candy-shaped cushions and cute containers. Posters or famed pictures with angelic pretty cards, emily temple cute advertisements and shopping bags.

Otaku cute:
Card captures/general magical girl theme! I would use cream, gold and pastel colors.
themed rug and throw blanket, cushions with characters from series you like, posters, framed prints or even cute wall decals, fairy lights and cute paper under your figurines. Pastel colored photo frames, memorabilia from the series and any comics you have from the series on display.

Your only problem will be making sure you don't over stuff your room as you have space problems already.
