Like before, let's discuss:
> Any Homestuck cosplays that you are working on right now?
> Any upcoming cons?
> Seen any good cosplays lately that we've overlooked?
> Scalemates and consort plushies are on sale on Whatpumpkin. Could they make for nice cosplay props?

I gotta question for y'all
Do you think Homestuck will still be big in 2014?

>> No.7227992

>>7227987
Maybe. We still have the end of the comic to go, and the game. It's certainly still going to be around, but I have a feeling Attack on Titan will finally take Homestuck's place as the one scapegoat for everyone to go "wow there's too much of you". In fact, last con I went to, there were barely any Homestucks at all. There were a lot more Attack on Titan cosplays.

Working on God-Tier Fef for Katsucon. I'm also making an Eridan cape...anyone have any tips on how to make the collar of it stand up nice and neatly? Like...besides interfacing. I was thinking maybe craft foam?

>I was thinking it should be attachable by magnets
I have no idea what you mean by this.

But I would suggest researching actual historical codpieces if you're curious about the construction, though. The bard one isn't terribly accurate but knowing your source material couldn't hurt. I also think you're assuming that the dick-part is going to be a lot heavier than it actually will be.

>> No.7228098

>>7228073
Yeah, craft foam will keep it stiff, but if you don't have a way to keep it securely down against your shoulders the collar will flop back anyway.

Basically just find a way to keep your cape in place on your shoulders and the craft foam will work nicely.

I was talking about the phallos itself so I wouldn't have to walk around all casual with a fabric dick in public. As in making it deattachable from the pant part.

>>7228468
Hm. Okay, speaking as someone who owns a generic, shitty Ebay wig that's short and black, I'll try to give you some pointers. You can try to get some fluff into it by blow drying it upside down and spritzing it lightly with hairspray while you do. You can wet it first if you want, and if you need to wash out any hairspray that's already in the fibers, you can work it out of the wig in the water. Too much hairspray is not your friend, ESPECIALLY with shitty wigs. It'll make the fibers look stringy and crunchy and weigh them down. Don't focus on imitating the sprite's hair exactly, go for a messy tousled look instead. The lack of troll grey is actually going to work against you here, since a great makeup job can compensate for a less-than-desirable wig, but I'll go on a hunt for decent Karkat cosplayers that have used shorter, thinner wigs and post what I find.

>> No.7228480

>>7228468
I'm not a expert with wigs, but yeah I think the lack of hair in general is your main problem. Like the other anon said, it's way too thin, which just makes the spikes you would need to make too small and messy.

Ideally if you had another black wig lying around, you could add some wefts to it to give it volume. Other than that? I don't know how much teasing would really help with it, but you could try to tease the base of some strands to give the illusion of volume and then try to find a better wig when you get some time.

I find Ben Nye to be best for the face. It's tricky to just use Ben Nye on the body because no matter how many times you powder and seal it, it's still much more likely to wipe off if you rub into something than any other paint. I mix my body paint to match the Ben Nye as closely as I can and then just blend the line where the two paints meet on my neck with Ben Nye.

But like others have said, substitute in Ben Nye Cream Colors for your face if you don't have oily/sensitive skin or Kyolan (Snazaroo's cheaper but it's not as great quality) if you react to BN.

But it's not anything to be too nervous about?
Just make sure you plan well so you have plenty of time (+ help if you do her demon outfit) to put it on and be prepared to spend a chunk of time getting it off.

>> No.7229926

>>7229895
Since PAX is made with acrylic, it might be wise for you to buy several samples of face paint to try the colors out before going for one regular sized container. You'll want your PAX and face paint to match so the color is uniform all across your body, and red paint varies across brands. With a few small paint samples, you could mix a tiny pot of PAX and see which combinations look best together. It'll give you some room to tinker and get familiar with the paint you'll be using. Come con day you'll need help to paint yourself though, so bring a friend!

I'd see if you can find places that are America circa '50/60s since he modeled himself off of greasers.
Or if you know a classic car enthusiast who'd let you pose with one that'd be hella rad.

Really the major thing is to just be mature and polite. While some photogs may be more picky and pass you over, a lot don't care, especially when they're getting paid.

I should probably mention that I'm eurofag, but yeah I'll look around and see if I could perhaps find someone with a old american. They're actually not too uncommon here now that I think about it. Would be hella cool.
However, I can't really think of a setting that fits in with the whole 50's american dream thing that isn't like five hours away. How could more general settings be made more interesting/relevant for Cronus?
What is the general policies about things such as touching up makeup/eyes and whatnot? Should I ask the photographer before? If the photos come back and I'm not too pleased with the editing I should talk to the photographer about it right?

Yeah that'd make finding nostalgia joints a lot harder.
Hmm, open (unoccupied) roadways or just plain 'urban' looking spots would be my next couple suggestions.

Carry a compact and personally check at an interval you're comfortable with and yes, talk with your photographer before you start shooting about problems/things they should point out to you so you can fix or adjust them as soon as possible.

Editing: Yes, yes, and yes. Once again, just be polite and tell them exactly what you didn't like or what you would like them to fix that they missed in the first wave.

I'm planning on doing a Tavros cosplay (because wheelchair) and I was just wondering if people think a trimmed wig or actually cut/dyed hair looks better? Also t-shirt or vest under the button-up.

Many people would say wig, but when i cosplayed tavros i just got a mohawk and styled it back (dyed black with make-up on the sides of my head of course). But if you're confident with wig styling and altering, you could try and get a good base wig (ebay just in case you mess up) and attach it to a bald cap in a mohawk styled, or you yourself could make a lace-front wig and style and attach it to a bald cap.
But, thats a bit much for a homestuck cosplay, and i highly doubt anyone would go through that much trouble.

Also use a t-shirt under his button up.

your wig is really lacking in volume and the bangs really need trimming, they look really stringy and awkward. fix up the paint job on your shirt (it looks rather messy and much too light) and soften up the contouring on your nose a bit and you'll be off to a good start!

>> No.7233013

>>7232991
First of all, I want to say you're off to a good start.
Next, there are a few places you could improve. First, get a new wig with more volume, and whatever you did to this one (did you use hairgel?) It makes the wig look stiff/greasy and just not appealing, so don't do that again. Try and find other ways to hold the style you want and add more volume. Maybe remake you horns, too, they look a bit awkward and could probably be smaller overall. Also maybe make your eyebrows look a bit more natural aswell as making your lips a little lighter-- they make you look too feminine at the moment. I LOVE how you use a turtleneck for him, but like the other anon said the symbol could probably use a re-do. But tbh overall it doesn't look that bad to me. I like your contacts a lot, but if you want to add something really to top it all off, maybe look into some fake teeth! Good luck, anon, you have a really nice face for Karkat!

>> No.7233171

also smaller hornes and grey contacts would better

IMO Eridan and Tavros are both cosplays which aren't Babys First Cosplay resonable for this very reason (same with equius). You wouldn't cosplay sasuke and forfeit the duckbutt because it is a big part of his design. So why would you cosplay Eridan without the widows peak?
This of course means that you WILL with all likelyness have to ventilate a lacefront wig, but if you want a accurate cosplay then that's just what you'll have to do. Just like you wouldn't make a Iron Man cosplay out of cardboard and expect it to look great.

>>7233624
I'm not very fond of them tbh, it looks good but it just doesn't look accurate to me.
I mean it's obviously a more punk interpretation of Cronus (Looking at the boots, tattoos, jacket, the looser styling of the hair), so I guess that's why I'm not too into it.

right now your horns sit on top of your hair instead of looking like they're growing out of your skull. You don't want to look like a militarystuck weirdo! A fluffier, fuller wig should fix that though, just make sure to style the wig with the horns attached so they look natural.
You should also lose the contacts and make your brows look more natural, as well as your nails. Right now you looks like Karkat wearing yellow nail polish and what you want is naturally yellow looking nails. Adding orange close to the nail bed and blending properly will help.

Also do not line your waterline with black, it makes you look like a girl wearing make up. Once again, it's supposed to look natural

Sorry. My maternal instincts for children attempting to cosplay overwhelmed my logic.

Actually, that said. I'll be damned if I can find a picture (I found this in the meantime...) What do you guys think of people dressing their kids/younger siblings up like HS characters, taking them to meets?

I encountered a very little Gamzee there with his older sister Terezi. She only put the clown makeup on him- not all over. He had a good time and loved all the attention, and she kept him out of harm's way and held his hand, made sure not to let strangers touch/handle him. Also a things specific to her God Tier is that they stick with the color palette. I keep seeing grey skirts+hoods but then black+white socks.

And I'm terrible at picking 'favorites' but Swinky makes a realy nice Jade from what I've seen.

Pretty much agreeing with these criteria. Jade's hair is STRAIGHT but has volume. She also lives in the jungle so crazy eyeshadow and lipsticks probably aren't the most appropriate. Huge glasses just look hilarious and make the cosplayer look cross-eyed - see alyssaties.

Not a huge fan of khaki/jean skirts for her default outfit. Nor do I really like the raglan shirts off topatoco.

I hate necomimi for dog tier. Also hate ridiculously fluffy ears.
