Panel approval emails went out today. Who got in?

Also general ALA thread

I'm going as Sakura from Dangan Ronpa and Freddie from Cromartie High. Pretty excited, since this will be my first serious attempt at cosplaying. Was also going to help run a JoJo panel, but we got the forms in late, so didn't get in.

What are your cosplaying as?

Anyone else have ribbons on the way? Putting in a huge group order this friday; with 11 people, we managed to hit over 1700 between over 20 designs.

The ribbons are one of my favourite things about ALA. I haven't seen another con that does it. You can get them for almost anything. Last year I had to talk about a grammar pet peeve to get a ribbon. It can be hard to find people giving them out though. I got a really nice Tiger & Bunny ribbon just for telling two awesome T&B cosplayers that I loved their cosplays.

Wow, that sounds really fun! So how do you find them usually? Just keep an eye out? I hope this gives me something to do at ALA, last year none of the panels interested me and I was too sick to party so I ended up only staying for a few hours...

>> No.7225400

>>7225392
A lot of the time you kinda have to get them through word of mouth like asking someone with the ribbon how they got theirs. Maybe keep your eyes open and watch who is giving them out. People in this thread may announce ribbons they are giving out as well. There's a little luck involved and you gotta be social.

Haha I got like 10 ribbons last year and that was because I had a friend hellbent on getting ribbons. I have seen some people walking around with like 50 and I have nooo idea how they do it.

I present you with: Baby's First Ribbonhunting guide

>Night Zero Dance & Dessert: attend the Ice Cream Social on night 0 to score free ice cream and a ribbon, while supplies last.
>Glitterati: stop by the office (usually near the info booth) and let yourself be glittered.
>Magic Word: head to the ALA merchandise booth in the dealer's hall and ask for a ribbon, but make sure to say the magic word. Might only work if Hoops is there.
>Jailbait/Parent in Tow: Info booth; Jailbait is for the jailbait, Parent in Tow is for parents dragged there by their children.
>Shake-Hands Fan: shake hands with the toastmaster, Tadao Tomomatsu.
>I Signed the Yaoi Flag: find and sign the Yaoi Flag.

These are just some of the yearly ribbons that are easier to obtain. Some places like the gaming room, the manga lounge, and the costume-repair station have ribbons exclusive to them.

I managed to get a little under 50 last year; my friend got the One Ed in Length ribbon for having a ribbon chain longer than 6'4". Not sure if I'll hit that this year, but I can sure try.

If you're only getting a small amount of ribbons by yourself, I'd recommend piggybacking on his order, or seeing if anyone else you know is ordering ribbons.

If you can rally together a bunch of friends to go in on ribbons, it might be cheaper to pick a company and arrange your own group order, since most companies offer lower prices for larger orders.

Glad to hear the words of encouragement. We're planning to take this show to multiple cons over the next few years in the name of creating a loose continuity like real wrestling. Hopefully you can show up to the other ones. We're using ALA as the testing show to get the e formula down and have Fanime be the big debut. If all goes well we might have a Jim Ross cosplayer on commentary in the summer.

If anything, I want as many people to see the link so we can have a good selection of wrestlers as the show lives and dies by the quality of its participants.

Well I wouldn't necessarily drag your boyfriend along unless he's the type to enjoy conventions.

and yes, I'd say at this point, with the reputation and negativity with the past. Maybe consider trying to use this convention as a turning point? Try to make some new friends, and maybe frankly, since I don't know the whole story, try taking whatever negative experiences in the past(whether caused by others or yourself, since there's two sides to every story) learn upon it, and make the more positive changes you need to do. Cause really, you're in a new state, a new place, gotta start somewhere.

and I'm suppose to be going, and staffing, but I have a job interview tomorrow, and if I get the job, unless they give me the day off for at least one day, I won't be at the con. Which is to bad, but work takes priority. But my husband will at least be able to attend and do his staffing job.

I'm assuming the "fiasco" they're discussing is Costumers Guild West (CGW) had a prize that they were giving which was a scholarship to Costume College. For those who don't know, this is an event where one can take classes to learn all sorts of different costuming techniques and skills in an environment much like going to school, but it's a lot of fun.

Someone who had entered in the Open Division had not won anything significant and felt that they were robbed of an award and felt that they deserved to win the scholarship since the CGW judge was impressed with their outfit. The winner was someone who was not in the Open Division.

The award was also intended for someone not in the Open Division since no high skilled seamster or seamstress should NEED classes on sewing and it is better suited for an up and coming costumer/cosplayer who could take full advantage of learning new skills.

agreed in this case. i heard that that twilight ball had issues too with their judging and prizes. the runners up were apparently way better and had coordinating outfits, also heard the winner was wearing store bought and friend of a judge? winners got free tickets for this year. did anyone go?

So this is my first year attending this con and I was wondering about on site registration. Will they be having it?
I saw on the website that they prefer people to pre-reg, but its going to be 50 bucks PLUS a 10 dollar processing fee...
Also I read they were holding a cap of only 4000 badges. For pre-reg only?
I'm just really confused.

registration is only forty my friend, check the website again. If you gather a group of twelve or more the price drops toe 35. And if you register at the con it'll still be forty.

I'll probably end up registering and using a student discount since Im cheap and only want it for dealer's room.
That's if they accept out of state student IDs if they check.. but I doubt it?

You should be fine with an out of state student ID as long as it's current.

They might cancel on site registration if they hit the 4000 person cap, and it looks like they will soon. 4K means prereg and at con total. If you are planning to go, get a badge now.
