you need to hem the edges. I know you're going for the ragged look but you need to make it look ragged not leave it looking ragged plus those loose strings are so annoying and get stuck on other people.

I have a slight problem with the eyes, they're way too big and round to be left blank. The Carapace eyes work without pupils because they're small and the shape of the eye gives away some characteristics and moods (see the difference between Jack's and Mayor's eye shape for instance), but those are just huge white dots and thats looks creepy as fuck.

I like the hood part, there's a nice shape, but you should try and cover it better with the cloth because now it looks like there's a separate cone stuck to the back of the head.

The only problem with hemming the edges is that then you can see seams, something I was trying to avoid, with him being literally clothed in rags and all; I'll try on a small part and see how it looks, though.
The eyes DEFINITELY need to be fixed. They were garbage.
I've actually shaped the hood pretty well(at least, I think I did), that's just a really unfortunate angle. Here's a better example of how it looked, before I tightened up the back folds

I actually reaalllyyy love that wig, and it's what a lot of disciple cosplays lack in my opinion. Her hair is suppose to be huge, wild, unmanageable, it makes her look wild. But a lot of the time people just go with a long curly black wig and call it a day.

I agree that she did a fantastic job on the wig. The shape of the horns look great, but they definitely need to be bigger to compensate for the intense volume in her wig. Everything looks pretty well-constructed! The Disciple has a good hold on how to pose - the other two simply need to find a dynamic pose and throw in a good facial expression and I think this group could be really good.

Actually the expression itself, and the dress fabric. I like imagining the tricksters as slightly more sinister versions of the kids. I'd also thought the ripple in the hem was done on purpose, but it probably needs to be more even to look that way.

I'm looking for a Terezi wig. Anyone have experience with the Uma 1450/Flippy Long wig from Amphigory, or the Black 005 Short Cosplay Wig from Hello Cosplay? Or other recommendations?

Posting a picture of a wig I've been working with for Kanaya. I've never overly styled a wig before and I would like to know if you guys think its too bulky on the side of the head. I feel like the wig itself is too thick and too layered, but I wanted to know if it was workable. Thoughts?

They're way too hooked on the tips, Disciple's horns look more like fox ears. That said, at least they're not just massive fat nepeta Hershey kisses like so many other Disciple cosplayers use.

The curl is nice but would be better if there wasn't a visible bobby pin. And, yeah, you're not getting enough lift on the sides of the head. If anything, it needs to be even more layered - the top layer is way too long to get the look you want. Trim the top layers about two inches and you should be able to get Kanaya's style easier. I honestly thought it was a Jane wig from the thumbnail because it looks so flat.

It looks workable, although some cutting may be necessary. Thick wigs are good for that sort of thing anyway. Would you mind maybe picking up/pinning back the top layer on your right side so I can see the bottom layers? (The side you've swept your bangs to?)

If the wefts on the bottom layers are sewn in high enough you'll definately be able to cut down the top layers to give it a more "kanaya" shape.

Has anyone here used Motions Oil Sheen spray on their wigs to keep them from tangling? Can anyone vouch for its results or suggest a similar product?

I use Mane and Tail detangler on my long wigs (Condesce-long) and it works well without looking oily or gross.
Makes your floors into an ice rink too if you're into that sort of thing.

Jane, even if some short wigs are unflattering on girls who aren't rail thin. There are a few wigs that look quite nice, so try a couple different wigs and different styles. fluffy jane wigs can be really cute with chubby cheeks!

If you're looking to crossplay, I actually like a bit of a soft Eridan or Tavros. Chubby Karkats are great, but I think short and compact seems to work best with that and you seem rather tall. John is also an option because heir tshirts are great for hiding curves. just... dont wear skinnies with it. get a pair of bright blue scrubs and bam, no curves.

Personally, Mane and Tail's excellent for working out knots, but Motions is the best when it comes to preventing terrible tangles.

As for application, you don't want to go overboard or it'll end up stringing and gross looking since it /is/ oil.
I just sort of 'sift' the hair through my fingers while lightly spraying from ~1 foot away, then comb through it when it's almost dry.

Kanayawigs are a bitch, I pretty much has to restyle mine every time I wear it.
Right now you look really egg-y, and you need to get more flare and volume to the sides. I would personally recommend getting spoils and curling it upwards with hot water to get a bit of help in the lift, that really helped my wig to look less like a bell shaped skirt and more A-lined in silhouette.

I don't really have that much of a problem with the blush. To me it's one of those each to their own kinda things because let's face it we all cosplay after our own headcanon. If we find it more reasonable that trolls are vaguely tinted their bloodcolour in certain spots then thats how we'll do it.

Yes that's good! I just wanted to make sure you wouldn't be able to see the netting if you tried to shorten up the top layers of your wig.

I think you would definately be able to make this wig more kanaya-y. Layer the top portion of the wig so you can style it to be a bit messy. Kanaya's hair is sort of choppy on top, perhaps use a pair of thinning scissors?

The bottom half of kanaya's hair is sort of style upwards. This is hard for cosplayers because wig wefts are sewn in straight down, and flipping them up would show the netting. A lot of cosplayers are able to still get the general shape of Kan's hair by cutting the bottom of the wig super short, then leaving the middle of the wig longer so they can style the midsection out. Yeah, like its a bit more difficult with the male trolls to incorporate their blood colour into their face (and all around make it more natural looking) but it usually comes out just looking like feminine blush and eyeshadow (which is something i have a lot of difficulty with)
But i didn't even see their eyeliner until i enlarged the pic, it looks like they used liquid/ gel liner, which eyeshadow would work a million times better for the eyebrows and adding colour around the eye area (i'm rambling, fuck)

Nah it's chill. I've personally been doing a few test on how to incorporate bloodcolour into male make up. It also depends a bit on where you are on the spectra, it's easier to do for Equius than it is for Eridan for example because Eridans violet is too close to human pink so it tends to look like shabby makeup.
I would actually say that if you're careful it works around eyes to keep the illusion of a thinner skin there.

It's really a matter of being super subtle, I find. like it shouldn't be noticeable unless you look twice it's really just to give some depth to the makeup. The reason it rarely works is because there's nothing else in the skin to indicate it would be a natural occurrence. I have heard that you could put a layer of PAX underneath your cream based makeup to give it the depth of colour.

And yeah I really suggest cream based, it just looks better and is easier to apply and everything.
As for contouring, I suggest getting a kabuki brush and contour with eyeshadow rather than bodypaint. Remember to check that your makeup is dry/properly sealed or it will be very hard to blend.
Same thing with bloodcolour, you'll just want a streak or two with a big fluffy brush.

A double flick would look weird because that's not what she has. Trying to put a flick as high up as the one of them is would just look bad.

It looks pretty good so far! I agree with anon though, the spikes do look a bit stringy. The spikes on top should be larger chunks instead of individual strands. If you can, try to pull some of the smaller spikes together. Use just a little bit of gel on the ends of the spikes, and hairspray the undersides to keep the hold. The bottom half looks pretty good from what I can tell! All in all it looks much better from when you started! Can't wait to see the entire cosplay!

Is this wig too dark for aradiasprite? I don't want to go bright red or too dark, it's hard finding an in between. If anyone has any aradiasprite cosplays with great wigs please post!

Question on contacts for trolls! For the dancestors, I've seen people use both blood color contacts and the whiteout ones, and I think both look nice. But what sort of colored lenses could work for the trolls who aren't old enough to have blood-color eyes (and aren't dead)? I personally like using grey contacts, yellow contacts are kinda hard to find ( aka yellow ones that don't look shitty) but even if you use yellow contacts it won't really look right unless you use scelera lenses (which are risky to wear for too long i think wearing them for 2 hours is pushing it, and getting them in isn't for beginners)

Ok I'm the sollux guy from yesterday and I just decided to revisit. Hey! A friend of mine requested by help for a play at a Homestuck event. I'm not really in the fandom, but I agreed to help her. Apparently, I'm playing Karkat? She told me she's going to lend me the shirt/horns and that I needn't wear the gray paint.

Will everyone else be wearing paint? With events like these its going to be tricky if half the trolls are gray and half are doing no-gray.

That said, Karkat has black sneakers and gray pants (gray jeans work, but you can use slacks). His hair is pretty messy and spikey. If you're not doing gray and are wearing normal makeup, use a little matte eye shadow to really emphasize your undereye circles. Yellow nail polish is a nice detail but if you're on stage might not be noticeable.

Homestucj costumes are very memetic and work heavily off the symbols and color schemes, so as long as your friend has a good set of horns and well painted shirt you'll probably be fine. If you're preforming, though, I would suggest slouching a lot and to practice scowling.
