My wardrobe is a mix of sweet, classic and hime stuff.

Favourite genres are industrial techno, psy-dub, trap, and maybe the odd bit of deep house. I go to a lot of gigs and DJ sets rather than listening to much at home. I don't wear lolita to them, partially because I don't want to get booze/ cigarette burns on my burando, but mostly because I can't dance in full loli for 6 straight hours without overheating.

There's Mozart and Rachmaninoff in there too somewhere. My stuff is pretty eclectic.

Drum and bass is my favored genre (High Contrast, Brookes Brothers, Netsky, etc.).

When I was a super insecure teenager I was criticized for some CDs I had in my bag (granted looking back it was such a asshole move this guy pulled, he went though my bag and grabbed them and paraded around the class laughing and showing everyone the CDs and commenting on how much my music taste sucked). And for some reason I decided to never get into music because of him. So fifteen years later I don't have a playlist or can even name popular bands or artists. I listen to a few Japanese bands: D'espairsray, MUCC, The Underneath, Moi dix Mois (YES I LOVE THEM but they are not how I was introduced to lolita).

I listen to Apocalyptica, Metallica, Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Guns n Roses, Avenged Sevenfold, Rammstein, Atreyu, Nightwish, H.I.M., Lacrimosa (absolutely love them)

On the other hand, I fucking love pop music and am not ashamed to admit I regularly listen to Backstreet Boys, N'SYNC, Britney Spears, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Ke$sha, Beyonce, forever listening to Lady Gaga...

And then a lot of classic rock and hard rock from the 60s and 70s, plus some hippie folk stuff (minus Bob Dylan. Sorry to those who like him, but I can't stand him).

I play violin, piano, and classical guitar so I also listen to a lot of music written by dead guys 150+ years ago but that would take me a really long time to list out, because I can ramble on forever about classical music.

I like finding out about other lolitas musical tastes too, OP! I think I'm pretty accepting of most other peoples' favorite music. Unless you like U2. I fucking hate U2.

Currently on my ipod/playlist:
Eluveitie, Powerglove, Alestorm, Kamelot, Ayreon, Arch Enemy, Epica, Blind Guardian

L'Arc~en~ciel, Siam Shade, GLAY, Luna Sea, BoA, Koda Kumi, Wakeshima Kanon, Yousei Teikouku, Bonnie Pink, Shiina Ringo/Tokyo Jihen/Soil & Pimp Sessions, Porno Graffitti, The Brilliant Green/Tommy february 6/heavenly6, VAMPS

a random bunch of big band and swing from when I was taking lessons, but not enough of one person or band other than Cherry Poppin' Daddies to really be able to name them

They Might Be Giants, Jason Mraz, Lily Allen, Daft Punk, Billy Joel, David Bowie, Michael Jackson, The Beatles, Sara Bareilles, Savage Garden, Queen, Crooked Fiddle Band, Barons of Tang

a slew of musicals care of my grandmother and mom, as well as movie and TV soundtracks (Avenue Q, The King and I, Fiddler on the Roof, Mikado, My Fair Lady, Oklahoma, Gigi, Chicago, The Sound of Music, Mary Poppins, etc., Pacific Rim, Battle Royale, The Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, a slew of Disney, Labyrinth, Conan: The Barbarian, Back to the Future, Battlestar Galactica, Ghibli stuff, Pirates of the Caribbean, Phineas and Ferb songs, Buffy/Angel, Doctor Who, Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes), random music from game soundtracks, usually the symphonic arrangements used for special releases or concerts (arrangements from Eminence for Blizzard, Soul Edge/Soul Calibur, various final fantasy collections, Elder Scrolls, etc.)

and clump of jazz, blues and classical stuff a friend threw at me a while back in an attempt to make things "more rounded"; I think the only thing I've listened to in full from that bunch is Carmina Burana, because we went to see it live and I wanted to know what I was in for.

>> No.7217008

Classic.
I don't really have any set music preference. I like anything with a fun beat depending on my mood and interesting lyrics..
I have a few choice favorites from every other genre, even hiphop, rap, and country. But I don't think I've liked anything out of indie or reggae.
Honestly, I only know mainstream stuff, and there's a ton of artists posted here that I've never heard of. I'm not much of a music person.

When I was in high school, I was one of those wannabe rocker kids. Metal, screamo, anything loud, angsty, and mainstream, and then when the style started skewing into scene and things started getting techno-y. But that's where I stopped trend chasing or even paying attention to what's new.

My kick right now is listening to everything that was more popular when I was younger, mostly things that my older sister listened to because that's how I got most of my exposure to music. Things like Destiny's Child, Daft Punk, The Temptations, and everything that had a music video up on MTV 10-15 years ago.
And Disney songs, because those are always fun.

I'm sorry that happened, anon, and I know how you feel. I've never had such a dick more pulled on me but I grew up with friends who were highly critical of everything music-related and kept changing their own tastes so I never felt comfortable getting into any music because they'd probably insult me and tease me about it. After they caught me checking out Malice Mizer they started telling everyone I was into "Ching-Chong" music. Now I'm like you, I have no playlists and have no idea what's going on in the music scene aside form the super popular shit that's continually being played on the radio.

I've started figuring out what I DON'T like, at least, and am slowly gravitating towards straight-up classical music from composers like Beethoven, Liszt, Saint-Saëns and modern composers who are inspired by that sort of thing.

These 'friends' later behaved the same way regarding brands of alcoholic drinks so I was never really able to get into that sort of thing, either. I suppose that's a good thing. I don't even want to know what they'd say about lolita.

I don't tell people my music taste when they ask me since they're usually asking to decide if we should be friends and I'm scared they'll decide I'm too dumb

If someone is who is excited about the music introduces it to me and points out how nice it is, I'll probably like it. And I'm not a 'not country or rap' (which I always think that's funny that they don't include metal when they say that?) kind of person, I really mean most anything.

I have an opposite story.

I was listening to anime OPs on my CD player and a guy was like "what are you listening to" and I gave him my headphones. He looked confused and angry, then he started laughing and showing everyone in class

"Hey anon! Tell everyone what you're listening to!"
"I-Inuyasha"
"Ahaha, what? Seriously what is it?"

So since then I've been convinced that at any point in time while I'm in public someone will come up to me and give me a pop quiz on what I'm listening to and ridicule me if I give the wrong answer.

I have music on my iPhone that I don't listen to or even like because I'm afraid of that happening again.

Granted, I have a HUGE variety of music that I'm familiar with now which is a great help when having conversations with people (eg I don't like The Arcade Fire but I've listened to their entire discography and have talked to people in bars about the development of their sound and how cool it would be to see them live)

Well it's not that they'd say it to my face, that I'm boring and pleb and should feel bad. You're only really going to see that on /mu/ (which I don't even go there cause I know what would happen), or if you're facing a real cunt.

It's just that people get these assumptions off of you. You listen to Avenged Sevenfold so you're in your annoying middle school emo phase, you listen to Tegan and Sara so you're a lesbian trying to follow the crowd, you listen to the radio so you're a slightly naive always-a-dumb-smile normal fag, you listen to Liszt so you're an elitist who hates this era.

People get these ideas of who you are. And I don't know which stereotype I fit into, what I'd want to fit into, and I'd rather that people got to know me through me.

Also what >>7219688 said
>Someone will come up to me and give me a pop quiz on what I'm listening to and ridicule me if I give the wrong answer.
I feel the same way when I cosplay something, or wear lolita, or mention I watch anime, or that I listen to metal, or anything.

I don't get involved enough in any particular thing to really be able to talk to fans about it. I'm forgetful with the source material and don't participate in fandoms. I look like a fraud.

Anyone who says "just be yourself and don't care what others think! ;)" is an idiot. Or has lots of friends and doesn't understand loneliness. Humans are incredibly social creatures. If you didn't fit in with the tribe, it could mean your death. The love, support, and acceptance from the people around us is what keeps us going. Isolate a human and their brain falls apart. They end up sitting in a corner, refusing to eat or sleep and they eventually just die.
Don't tell me that what people think of me doesn't matter.

Well, obviously people make assumptions to some extent, and that's totally understandable, because certain people are associated with certain kinds of music for good reason. But if you genuinely hit it off with someone, and they decide they don't want to be your friend because you listen to fucking Blink or something, they're probably an ass. Music taste can be a good indicator of what a person is like, but if it's the ONLY indicator, you've got a problem.

people aren't neat little packages of 'likes rock and roll' or 'likes cosplay" and it's okay to only know an intro amount of things. life isn't some anime where being cool~mean destroys someone's self, you are just the douche with the knee jerk reaction against system of a down. do you treat people like this?
on the topic of 'just be yourself and don't care what others think' means you can't please all the fucking idiots in the world, find shit YOU like, find friends you like and like you, and do something with your life other than making it a giant popularity contest. you can be weird and nice and still have friends. so yes, please all the shallow idiots, that's not a giant waste of your time or anything.

I like melodic black metal and folk metal, some classical, folk songs (mostly celtic), various nostalgic songs from the 90's, some 80's music, a handful of random songs from various artists and whatever is popular for when I'm working out (for some reason I can fall into a better rythm with rap and pop easier than I can with my music when I'm doing cardio)

I'm a giant weeb - currently I mostly listen to Sailor Moon/anime soundtracks and J-pop. If I'm not indulging my weeb side, I have an equally dorky side that gets off listening to Disney theme park music, like the show music (Wishes! is my fave) and the stuff they play in the background at the parks. Other Disney film soundtracks are some of my loves, as well as the Star Wars scores.

My normalfag tastes include most everything aside from current top 40 and rap, but my fave would have to be The Beatles.
