I think pastel chocolate prints are among the ugliest things in this fashion. Chocolate Rosette was wonderful because the colors actually went well with brown. Beth was a sub-brand of Victorian Maiden. It was designed to have cleaner, simpler designs and be more wearable for daily life.

That set wasn't really marketed as a "flight attendant costume." It was a regular otome-style set that included an apron. It was regarded as being a really cute and interesting variation for the standard bell silhouette at the time.

I've done that and then some. My entire family is German.

Russian military uniforms from the time look almost identical. British uniforms look very similar as well. There's variation in the color, and the patches and whatnot.

The Chinese Qipao (or Cheongsam as white people like to call it) is NOT a modernization of anything traditionally Chinese. It's an invention of the Manchurian empire which took over China, and stuck as a cultural remnant and decision of the PRC government. The majority of Chinese are Han, and Hanfu or Han clothing is very different across many dynasties. However the current government still persists the qipao and magua (for men) as the national costume, but the hanfu movement is growing in popularity within China. Modern fabrics and patterns to qipao or kimono/yukata are what make it 'modernized', and not this disgusting fetish thing KP is wearing. Short sleeves, zippers, lighter fabric etc. make it more versatile as a garment for wearing, and not as a stage costume for white people to go OOOHHHHH SO AZN at. Really the Japanese designer is being insulting to both Japanese and Chinese culture, neither of which they 'have a right to' whether they're Japanese or not. But then again, lots of Japanese street fashion is centered around being exploitative and controversial like wearing swastikas and swear words, so think of this as the equivalent.

Yes, I didn't read the book but the movie was quite offensive by geisha's standard. It wasn't even realised in Japan, no japanese actress wanted to play in it and after the book's release the giesha world closed itself more than ever because they felted betrayed by it.
