Working on redoing my crappy circa-2009 Medicine Seller costume, starting with the props. New mirror-pendant next to old mirror-pendant.
On the subject of redoing said costume, if anyone's familiar with the character, do you think the kimono would look better appliqued with vintage kimono fabric, or digitally printed so I can make it look like katazome + yuzen?

Finally got the legs for this bastard done. Delivered them last night to the client to make room for starting on the torso. Will probably be starting on it this weekend.

Overall I'm fairly happy with them, I had to make a LOT of concessions and changes just to make them a reality, which while I regret, not too much I can do due to my building skill.

Iron Monger is now half done, and the client is wanting to present it at Megacon coming up in March, heaven help all of us.

The triggers are built into the middle layer of wood. I agree they are somewhat clunky; the saw I was using at the time could only cut very shallow curves at best, but now that I have a scroll saw I might make a curvier set of swords in the future. Luckily I designed my Gear to have all interchangable parts.

salvageable? It's hard to tell in the picture, but I folded little pieces near the edges of the "six pack" area.

I also needed advice if you guys wouldn't mind! My bra is too big to fit inside this suit, so I was going to use those bra sticker things. (not the tiny nipple ones, but the full chested ones) Only problem is I have an allergy to adhesive. so it'll get rashy.

Detail does not equate to construction. It looks solidly constructed, especially if it can walk at that size.

It's not a question of whether it's solid or not, it's just kinda done sloppy. Stuff like the feet, for example...they don't resemble the source material in anything but the most basic sense of being vaguely wedge-shaped. His legs don't even go down that far, there's not really anything stopping them from being more accurate. I'm not trying to hate on the guy, but if he's already attempting a project of that scale he may as well go the extra mile. Right now, what I'm seeing is someone investing a lot of time and effort into something they'll ultimately be sorta disappointed with because they didn't put in that little extra here and there. I've been there and it's a real shitty feeling.

>>7184962
>>7185019
Detail is vital on something that big. Making a huge suit is impressive, sure, but you're undermining your own efforts if you think making it gigantic is a substitute for accuracy and detail. Temjin's stuff is just as difficult to adapt to being worn by a person (as are basically all mecha and/or mecha-like things, because of weird proportions) but his attention to detail and accuracy is what makes his builds amazing.

It's a grand undertaking and I'm not trying to say you aren't putting in a great effort already, but I think you're gonna be a lot more satisfied with your finished product if you slow down and spend a little more time on the spit-and-polish now rather than later.

That is pretty much the gist of it yeah. Its time consuming but I like the results Ive gotten with this method so far.

It doesn't really behave like paper though so once its transferred you have to do quite a bit to get it to come together properly. Fold lines need to be scored and heated before they can be bent into place.

Since its thicker than paper edges that fold inward need to be shaved shorter at the ends so they still line up. Edges that meet I cut at a 45 degree angle so they meet up nice and flush. I sandwich a second layer of 1mm at corners and large planes to add extra strength as well.

Yes your hands are grey, but they're really flat looking. This may seem weird, but if you want them to look good you have to contour them, same as your face.

It's just some grey paint I had in my craft box, I need to buy actual body paint. (And I'll most definitely contour it!)

Loathe as I am to admit it, some of the better Homestuck cosplayers have the grey paint thing figured out to a T and then some. Google something like "homestuck grey paint" and see what you find - I remember seeing a guide going around at one point that seemed promising.

>> No.7190089

>>7189791
Homestuck reporting in with a few guidelines about facepaint.

As a general rule of thumb, facepaint is one of those "go cheap get cheap results" sorta things. You will want to avoid most things that are on sale after halloween as well as the majority of water based paints in favour of cream brands like ben nye, kryolan supracolour and idk if mehron has any cream make up but yeah. If you need to paint arms and legs I suggest using PAX.
Be aware that getting paint to stick to your hands is quite the bitch. I have yet to find a way that works so I usually just shoop mine afterwards so I wont have to deal with it. Also people get noticeable less hostile when they see that there is no risk of you greying down anything you touch.
There is also the alternative of armsocks which I've been looking into.
As for application, contouring is even more important and needs to be done even more dramatical than you usually would.
You will want to do at least one make up test, preferrably more. I'm just now starting to get it to look good and even after about seven rounds of greying up. Plus a few tests. On top of the facepaint you will wear regular make up. If you forfeit all else you will still want to darken your lips, mark your eyebrows and use mascara.
As for sealing - powder is your best buddy. Sealing spray is not 100% necesary (it makes the make up more comfortable to wear in my experience) and can make your facepaint "crumble" if used too carelessly. Powder, however, is absolutely neccesary.

As for tutorials, Silencedrowns has the "original ben nye troll make up tutorial" or something along those lines, I haven't seen anything super covering on PAX yet though.
Good luck!

OnT: fabric hunt. Sigh yay.

So we're going to ignore the fact that I continued the ruffles under the arm, where the sleeves will eventually attach. I sewed together most of my bodice.

My problem is, why is the front puckering so bad? It's not a seam, there shouldn't be any stress there. IT got like that when I sewed the middle strip on, before I attached it to the bodice, and I've tried pressing it a couple times.

This is my first time drafting my own bodice pattern from scratch, and my first time sewing in bra caps, so sorry for dumb stuff. It's also currently pinned on both sides, one seam needs taken in, the other is where the zip will go, so that looks a little wonky?

I guess I should be particularly clear that I mean the small puckering on the white stripe of the bodice. I think it might be a tension issue? I'm still a little confused because I don't have puckered seams or anything.

>>7200493

It's 2 layers of quilting and a layer of cotton sateen so I don't think it's a flimsyness issue?
>>7200472
On the grain sateen, but it puckers evenly and consistently down the front of the bodice. I don't think it would do that if it was because of the tightness in the chest? It definitely is somewhat tight there, but it's all hand-dyed fabric and I don't have room to let out in the seams unfortunately. I'm hoping that when I install the zip it frees up a little more room on top, because right now I just awkwardly struggled to pin it on top.

If it's just the stripe that you're worried about the puckering, based on what you've said, it's probably a thickness/tension issue. You can totally stop the puckering by sewing it on by hand. Otherwise you're going to have to play with your machine settings a bit to change the tension, and if you can, you may need to adjust the pressure on the presser foot. Make sure you sew the sides always in the same direction (top to bottom) so that the fabric is being pulled in the same direction, and GO SLOW.

Working with it is such a pain since it's so unbalanced as fuck.
I stole an idea from another anon here and put fans on the sides instead. Mines aren't static though and will be powered by an airsoft battery that'll go for 5.5 hours straight.

Everything is modular also, can disassemble with just your hands/no tools. I can replace the fan, take off the arms, etc. I'm a gun nut so "field stripping" feature just kind of came naturally.

You might want to work a bit on your seams. Particularly on the chest piece, and to a lesser extent where some of the foam shapes meet up.

Any advice on how to hide the seams where the craft foam meets? Can't do anything about the gaps where I cut off some of the boob cup worbla until I go home (L200 foam is there).

Took a break from stressful graduation stuff and cut my new Mamimi wig and did a makeup test. I cut a shit ton off of it, thinned it out a lot, and tried to style it a bit. I am def going back in the bangs and thinning them out some more and fucking around with the (my) left side bangs since I don't like it. Probably gonna curl up the bottom a little more too.

NO MORE COSPLAY FOR ME UNTIL FRIDAY THOUGH. Then I'm done with school forever and cosplay all the time for the next month. I'm so excited to start working on cosplay again after so long.

I don't know why but your face makes me want to punch you. Like a lot, like until I'm slamming your head on the ground and punching you until your nose is bleeding.
It's not that you're unattractive or anything, I just really want to punch the shit out of you for some reason.

So we're a group of us are going as Hunter's from "The Last of Us."

And for the most part, it seems like an easy cosplay. We've got the prop weapons and molotovs set up. Most of the clothing is already worn and 'zombified' to the point of perfection.

But what I'm most interested in the armor they don. I've been looking online, and for the most part it looks like they just put on motorcycle armor. I was thinking of just hopping on ebay, buy the cheapest sets and buffing it out a bit.

What do you think, seagulls?

So I have started to paint the bottom of my Suika skirt. However the screen paint doesn't cover completely, so I'm thinking of using acrylic paint on the second layer. I know that will make it a bit stiff but It will probably cover better than the Screen paint... also this is such boring to do. It's a circle skirt so I have to paint like five meters of this, and I've barely finished 1/5 of it....

Got commissioned to make winter soldier's arm from the new captain america movie. I finished most of the base construction, now it just needs a little touch up and detailing, then it should be ready for paint.

I don't know about the paint issue, but couldn't you use a larger brush, or even a roller, on the bottom of the design?

I would also recommend checking out that easy screenprinting tutorial lying around somewhere.

any paint you use will require you to do more than one coat. You are painting white on a dark surface. You will probably also have some inconsistency because you are hand painting. If you want a clean even coat do a stencil or legitimate screen print. Since screen printing would cost you a ton look at freezer paper stencil method.

Been a long time. After a lot of moving around and shuffling my feet, I'm back to work on Archangel Imperius. The bottom section of his helmet is nearly done!
Now I need to start building and attaching the crown to the top of this. Made entirely out of Sintra.

More work on Alt-Eisen.

The 3 barrel auto-cannon arm is pretty much complete. The cannons light up, move and make sound. Wiring for this took much longer than I thought.

Here is a video of it in action. One of the cannons till sticks a bit but I think its just a case of the batteries running low. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9H5wKztYsc

Time to get started on the torso and skirt armor.

Anon... you really need to learn how to tell the difference on your own, it's not that difficult.
>features which appear rounder/softer
>fuller lips
and most importantly
>higher brows with a softer brown line lacking any distinguishable "ridge"
