I have to admit I hated them when I first started to see them worn all over the place, but I have since been seduced by them and bought a few recently.

I think balance and color coordination are key to blame for them getting the rep they have. The way a lot of girls wear them, they almost always clash horribly with the other colors in a coord, and they always look way too big and unbalanced- especially with the frizzy waffled wigs everyone wears them with. IMO they work best when more subtly-colored and smaller, so that they're less of a 'pile of flowers on your head' and more of a row of small flowers with an updo, similar to a bridal look.

Honestly, I think it might even be a little more offensive to assume someone goes by different pronouns. If someone is presenting themselves as clearly female, and you go up to them and ask, "Do you identify as male or female, or do you not go by either?" When I first joined Tumblr I used to give a damn about SJW stuff because I was actually frightened about pissing someone off unintentionally. Before Tumblr I had a bunch of queer friends and just referred to them all as 'they' and no one minded but then Tumblr made me super self conscious about everything I did/said until finally I just said fuck it and stopped giving a damn.

I think that's what a lot of people exposed to the SJW side feel like. You either are scared and conform because you don't want to be the next target of their hate/death threats or you reach the point where you don't give a damn and realize they're just obnoxious teens/young adults on the internet.

The SJW movement is practically a cult at this point. It's one thing to care about basic human rights and other things but it's something completely different to threaten/intimidate people to obey your absurd ideas like they're law and then incite others to threaten people who haven't done anything wrong in the eyes of the law just because they did/said something you didn't like.

I don't mean to generalise, but the people I have encountered like that in real life are generally the most sheltered people I know. They don't really have much real world experience, and they seem to have the idea that the whole world is bad and they have to change that. That's my experience anyway.

One of my best friends is starting to get more and more into it, but only when it suits her. She used to be totally into gender binary ideas and was really inflexible when I'd try to talk to her about social issues (not beat her with them, just have a serious conversation from time to time). She found tumblr and started posting some things that made it seem like maybe she was rethinking her world views, which was on one hand a little frustrating because why couldn't you just listen to me that's exactly what I said and on the other great for her expanding her horizons. The site tends to devolve into circlejerking and hostility, yet ironically claiming to be accepting of all and being a hugbox. But only if you're "oppressed" or a "minority"! Basically saying, "We accept everyone! Except these people, and these people, and these people..." and the further removed you are from societal views, somehow, the better. I get that some societal things are bullshit, but come on.

And don't even get me started on the fandom bullshit. I've had a neutral opinion towards Supernatural, thinking, okay I guess it's just a show about these dudes who hunt demons, sounds alright, but no, every single fucking post I read about it is how "oh Destiel is canon!" and how people even wrote fucking petitions to make it so, boycotting the show because apparently Castiel kisses a girl or something. I told her how we as a culture equate the word as black people equate the word "nigger", and how we are politely trying to change the common usage of it.

Pretty much. Except a lot of them self-identify as Native/Latina/(insert minority here) because they found out some incredibly distant relative belonged to that group. Completely forgetting that many of them have what they call 'passing privilege', meaning that although they identify as Navajo or whatever, people are going to look at them and think 'white girl', thereby giving them white privilege. That throws me and I find it annoying. I followed a girl that had one of those "uguu kawaii" blogs and then just like you said, suddenly she was reblogging all of this porn and inappropriate stuff. I honestly thought she had been hacked, but it turns out that's just what she was into. It was really frustrating.
