About the AUs, there are some that I sort of do want to see done well. I think that's the rule of thumb for AUs, do it but do it well.

Like there was one AU or fanart that personified all of the planets, with usually their head replaced with a floating object that best represented the planet. I think that would be really cool if it was pulled off well. Like Eridan's planet, the Land of Wrath and Angels, looked like a cross between the grim reaper, angels, and the coat had spires and castle designs on it.

I think I just have a general dislike of Homestuck crossovers of literally everything. When the first few episodes of SNK popped up, literally a week later my dash was covered in Homestuck characters in maneuver gear. I think the only one I didn't mind was a DR crossover, because the web comic is already full of kids killing each other. If the art's done well and the cross for that character fits I don't mind, but jesus is it frustrating to be scrolling tags for something completely unrelated and then run into a random troll or a Dave.

I have never seen it cosplayed though, and to be honest that is something I would REALLY like to see done well. Clawy feet, fuzzy ears, prosthetics and sfx make to emaluate the muzzle-like face and the fuzz.

A homestuck movie's been announced and you're given the opportunity to chose the cast of all the characters. Who would you cast for each character and why? Not taking into consideration acting skills, height, age, sex, location, etc.

They look awful.

That said, silhouette cosplays would be pretty cool too. Something like post-S Rose and Dave wearing black zentai suits and white details like white glasses, to contrast with pre-S Roxy and Dirk who are sometimes depicted with white zentai suits.

The spikes are paperclay over a card base (the card was mostly to get them to be as uniform a shape and size as I possibly could, and to give the teeth a base/anchor that I could use to glue them onto the blade.

Also I know you didn't ask but I took measurements anyway. Bear in mind that I'm a 5'3"/160cm tall guy so you might have to tweak the measurements to fit your own proportions/height better. (Apologies about the shit photo, I don't have a lot of me carrying it because it was a pain.)

The entire thing is 95cm tall, not including the teeth.
The grey box is 15.5 x 15.5 x 9cm.
Middle box is 18.5 x 18.5 x 9cm
Bottom box is 15.5 x 15.5 at the top and 20 x 15.5cm at the bottom, at a height of 14cm.

Shitty ipod photos are shitty, sorry. Also I'm not great at describing how I do things so if anything isn't clear just let me know and I'll try to clarify.

Anyway, the chainsaw is mostly MDF, the piece for the blade is sandwiched between two pieces of foamboard to bulk it up a little (and partially so that it won't snap if someone so much as looks at it wrong). The curved surface on the bottom box piece is just card, the same stuff I used for the base of the teeth. Teeth are paperclay, as mentioned.

Basically what I did was plot out how I wanted to put it together and what pieces I'd need, ending up with the pieces in >>7178589;
-Blade piece (the lower portion of it goes into the chainsaw body all the way down to the bottom, I had that bit cut bigger to fit so I could glue the edges down for more stability
-Grey box pieces-- one top piece, four side pieces.
-Middle box pieces-- two top/bottom pieces, four side pieces
-Bottom box pieces-- one bottom piece, two irregularly shaped side pieces, one large side piece (for the straight 'back'), one smaller side piece (for the bottom of the curved side).
-Additional: length of card for the curved side-- I did this after assembling the bottom box but before attaching it to the rest of the chainsaw. For this one, I just cut it to the right width (with about two centimetres of extra on either side so I could glue that down on the inside) and kind of eyeballed it to fit, leaving enough on the top and bottom sides so I could glue it down securely.

After that I had to cut out slots in the top/bottom pieces of the grey and middle box for the blade to go through. Make sure to measure and doublecheck that the slots are centered, because it's easy to fuck it up, the middle box of my chainsaw is a bit off center because I done fucked up with making sure the left and right sides on either side of the slot was even.

For that, I just drilled carefully along the thinner edges of the top of the slots and down the longer edges slightly enough to break off a little piece so my jigsaw blade would fit, then cut the rest out. I also cut out the circles in the side panels of the two lower boxes for the handles to go in-- for these I just drilled along the lines until I could just punch the circles out.
There's probably a better way to get the slots and circles cut out, like just going at it with a utility knife, but after cutting half the pieces out with a utility knife I wasn't keen to spend a couple hours bent over the MDF anymore, especially not on cutting a curved edge w

After that I just started taping the pieces together to see how it'd fit and to plot where the holes need to go through the blade piece. Once I got that sorted (and drilled the shit out of the blade piece too) I started assembling the chainsaw. (I learned hotglue works on MDF, shit's solid as hell after a couple layers of woodfiller, too.)

I actually glued the foamboard onto the blade /before/ putting it together (seen in >>7178581 ), but if I redid this project, here after assembly is where I'd glue the foamboard in.
With the foamboard, you want it to be a little bit wider and taller than the blade piece that it's sandwiching, so you have a slot to glue your teeth into later. (Also be careful when cutting it out because if you fucked up you're gonna have an ugly edge to your blade. Mine's slightly uneven on the top of the outer edge.)

Once it was assembled I started going over the edges and any uneven sides with woodfiller, then sanding the hell out of the entire thing.
In hindsight I should have gone all over the thing, because the surfaces without woodfiller are rougher/more matte than the surfaces with the woodfiller (these are actually smooth enough to reflect light after painting-- more obvious IRL than in photos though)

After sanding the shit out of the chainsaw body, I glued part of the handles in (just the ones that go into the body, the rest can be attached later) as well as the circle/round bit that goes at the top of the blade (This is just leftover card cut into shape and spraypainted the same grey as the top box).
The bottom handle is just long enough that the protruding bit fits my fist + the end cap, and the piece for the middle box handle is just long enough to accomodate the elbow joints to attach the rest of the handle.

Once that's done, I spraypainted the body-- gray first, then white-- then let it dry before gluing the teeth and the handles in.

That's pretty much it, sorry for the all-over-the-place explanation. Let me know if you want more details on any of the bits and I'll do my best.

So I've been wanting to cosplay with my best friend for over like 2 years now, and she's constantly refused to. Today, I found out it's mainly because she's overweight (she's just chubby, not land whale or nothing). First, they're a visible target because of symbols and horns, they're a large fandom and meetings and photo shoots get in the way and are loud, unsealed body paint is still a thing (although that's much better), etc.
Some anime con purists have a problem with all western cosplayers (bronies, whovians, adventure time also).
Also, you're going to get a few rotten apples in any fandom, but the hs fandom is larger, so proportionally it's more likely you'll run into a bad homestuck or even a group of them.

So I'm practicing poses from the comic, I think I've decided to do one of John's fight poses during his second battle with Jack. If you go off of just Hussie's own art, they always seem to be drawn as coming from around the cheek area. Like, just, they aren't ears. The talk sprites are different, but they are also all different if you compare characters from each flash "set." Like, the trolls in openbound look almost nothing like they did in the alterniabound flash.
