Hello Lace or Lolibrary?

Pros and cons. Which do you use more? Which do you prefer, and why?

>> No.7167472

I love Hellolace's format.

I need Lolibrary's archive.

I just want them to have a baby.

>> No.7167534

I love lolibrary but it hasn't updated in so long which automatically puts Lolibrary in the top spot.
I need Lolibrary to have any option to 'view all' or be able to increase the amount of items you can see per page (10,25,50) rather than me have to wade through pages that only contain 5-8 items.
This is my only problem with the site and it frustrates the living hell out of me

>Time bed me thinks

Replace the first lolibrary with Hellolace

>> No.7167537

Lolibrary, no contest. It just functions way better as an archive and is much more complete.

>> No.7167540

>>7167534
Yes! Definitely. It's frustrating when you want to just skim through to look for something that's a bit more vague.

>> No.7167543

I agree- Hellolace wins on layout/organisation, but also needs an update. Lolibrary has all the pieces there but browsing is a total pain.

>> No.7167547

I love lolibrary. I haven't noticed any of the issues everyone else is pointing out - perhaps because I don't frequent it or browse for long.

>> No.7167567

>>7167471
I mostly seek patterns and material recommendations, so either are fine, but I think Lolibrary could do with a few more interface options and a more intuitive search.

>> No.7167635

love hellolace, but it desperately needs an update
I completely ignore lolibrary because its so much of a pain to use.

lolitafashion.org needs to just be deleted.

lolibrary. how is it even a competition? delete thread OP

>> No.7167712

I have both bookmarked. I use hellolace moreso for finding stores and that sorta stuff, lolibrary for finding names of prints and that sorta thing

I don't think that's relevant to the topic at hand, but I do have a few dresses and other items in my closet.

Who the fuck runs Hello Lace anyway and why can't we get it updated?

>> No.7167754

You guys could do with sending the creators of both sides these suggestions instead of bitching here. Both sites are also provided for use free of cost for everyone. Show some appreciation for the hard work the volunteers put into them.

Shippou~ I really want to chat with you 1 on 1 on skype or something. I've been really interested in talking to you for a while now. Will you talk to me?

We're not really bitching, so much as talking about pros and cons.

Lolibrary, but I'm biased.

I mean, I think everyone in the admin group for lolibrary knows that the usability design for lolibrary needs some major work, it's certainly on the to-do list. If you have specific suggestions though, please, send them? We have an open feedback area right now for features and design suggestions and commentary: http://lolibrary.org/content/desired-featuressuggestions

>>7167732
Last I heard HelloLace was on hiatus due to lacking a Web Developer, and something about not being able to add to the site until there was a Dev?

Hello Lace looks better and has better usability, but one of the issues even back when it was current, was that they only add things if they have high quality stock photos, which means they are missing a lot of stuff that they probably would never have been able to add.

Umm... remember that e-famous lolita who passed away this summer?

I mean, I hate to even bring it up, but she was one of the main people who did that site.

>>7169612
Other way around. Amethystcitrine was one of Lolibrary's founders.

I have to say that I'm annoyed at hellolace for deleting all their moitie info. Wtf bring it back

Here, dug up the official announcement in case anyone wants to read it: http://egl.livejournal.com/18604914.html

Not sure why they deleted the MMM, they didn't tweet about it or anything.

Huh. That read like a pot shot at lolibrary then "I need a programmer, I can't do this stuff".

>> No.7169692

>>7169658
I think she was just trying to explain what she wanted out of the system, and it was easier to compare?

Anyways, the biggest issue with stuff like this is finding someone with the skills and the time who is passionate enough to work for free OR raising the funds to pay for someone to do the work. What she wants isn't a small thing; it sounds like she wants a whole CMS built from scratch and that would take a lot of time (and might not actually be the best solution for her problem in the end, TBH. It would be faster to convert the site into an out-of box CMS and then work backwards to the design and custom features she would need... But IDK what it looks like on the backend).

Lolibrary is way better.

It's got a much more complete collection, an easier way of searching for things, and more information on each item.

Love lolibrary. Heaps of work involved but there's not enough contributors. I submit 4 or 5 or however I can weekly but there's so much info that still needs to be transferred from HL to LL alone let alone updating with new releases from stores.
I kinda wish maybe the Mods could set up teams to do each brand or each type of item to finish.

Also my last real suggestion is to add a search feature by clothing measurements. Would help me find longer dresses for my tallita needs, and bigger width girls alike.

New releases from start to finish, or old stuff from start to finish? because if we are talking old stuff, then that's not a small job. I had another thought I wanted to type, but I'm like... ready to pass out and it flew away.

>> No.7169762

I agree, I kind of wish they would just work together instead of competing. They have what the other one lacks and I dont think lolibrary could match how easy hello lace is without a big overhaul of the site.

Raine, since I know you're the one for programming, may I suggest finding a way to alter the lightbox plugin so that images are easier to download? It's one reason why I go to hello lace for older stuff. But it's never updated. So I need to search through code just to find the image I'm looking for. It would make things 1000% more useful. (I use firefox though, chrome is a little easier to navigate and get the image but it would be nicer if we could just right-click save-as)

It's alright! The username was broberheim.
I sent it on the 18th, so i thought maybe you guys just weren't taking new accounts at the time. Thanks a bunch, I really appreciate it!

>> No.7169848

Lolibrary wins by a landslide in content. I use Hellolace to look at pretty dresses and when I see a dress on mbok that has no measurements and need to see more detailed pics.

>> No.7169857

>>7169811
I agree that it would be easier if you could download from the lightbox :3 (There is actually another developer who has made all of the changes lately who is super awesome and super talented though; don't give me any credit for her work! ^_^ I've really not been able to help much at all with code.)

That said, until we can make it more user friendly, if you CRTL+click or right click -> open in new window on the thumbs you can skip the light box and it lets you save them. (that's what I do right now)

I'm looking at your account, and it's set to active, so, you should be able to log in and make entries, and what will happen is they will go into a review queue, and a admin will review the entry, just a quick look over to make sure everything is formatted right. If anything is off, what we do is just fix it really quick, and then send a PM saying like "oh, hey, by the way, we try to put this bit of data here instead of there, just for the future" or something like that.

If you can't log in, let me know.

If you have specific questions about how to format things, or how specifically to make a new entry or anything, please feel free to send me a PM over there, and I can go over anything you want to know (just because IDK how long this thread will be here and it's getting late here). There is a guide (http://lolibrary.org/content/posting-guidelines)) though it's slightly dated I think... and for anyone who really is making a lot of entries and wants to really get involved, we do have a group on FB for the major contributors (as well as a facebook page which can also be used to contact an administrator if you need help with an account).

Not the same person, but I think that was an non-public conversation, so I don't know that you can get a source other than going to one of the lolibrary or hello lace admin and directly asking. I don't know the details, but someone did mention the same thing to me.

However, The hello lace admin did answer publicly when it was proposed in the thread posted here (see attached screen capture)

Lolibrary went to Hello Lace before it was really established as a site. She's making it sound like Hello Lace did Lolibrary a favor by turning them down. I guess in the end they did, because Lolibrary is far superior to Hello Lace.

Hellolace gets updated once a while, for example, the taobao and 'where not to buy' sections got redone this year but they just don't update the wardrobe.
