i bought one on a whim and the first time i wore it, the fabric immediately started pilling up, especially on the arms. they also smell nasty as hell before you wash them, and even when you do, the scent remains. the sharp edges of the patches, especially the corners of the feathers, seem to be prone to peeling. not really sure about sizing, because i like my hoodies really baggy

I'm assuming you're going for Ymir, if anything you'll just have to straighten it and do some cutting where needed. I don't know why, but out of the bag TFW wigs are really wavy (comparing this to wigs I've gotten from Arda and ebay that have come to me just as they looked in the pictures, but it could just be because they pack all the wigs for selling/transport at the con).

And just painted the first box today just to see how it would turn out. No clear coat yet.
All the pieces are balancing on each other hence there's some visibly sloppy fitment, but it's a mockup of what it should look in the end, minus some more trim pieces and detail I have to put in that little window.

Very pleased with the results so far. I like how well sintra takes paint, and that metallic sheen. Wasn't nearly as pronounced on foam.

Hope I make it by PMX and Comikaze.

I recently got my copy of the second guide book and it has a few references for the uniform and for the manga version of the 3dmg. The 3dmg refs even include some length specifications.
I don't have access to a scanner atm but I can try to take some photos if you guys want me to.

The point isn't to look inhuman, it is simply to polish facial features. Refining yourself is part of cosplay as it is part of theater. It is a more costume-y look with higher standards than everyday make up.
Sure, some tend to go heavy on the highlighting and it doesn't always come out right. But it isn't a practice frowned upon and thought of as "looking like a shit" like you are making it to be.

If you were bitching about the lining-the-waterline-with-white-for-animu-eyes, I would get it. But, you just seem to whine for whining without a real understanding of the thing.

Thank you. Most Levi makeup is terrifying. Just because the Asians are doing it means it looks good. Trying to recreate the lines of a character's face by literally drawing lines is stupid. We could all go back and forth with talk of personal taste, but at the end of the day I think that looking human is kind of important. Part of cosplay is translating 2D to 3D. If a character has a squiggly eyebrow, don't draw a freaking squiggle, try and draw tiny invisidual lines that form a squiggle from a distance. Don't draw a crease in their brow, contour it with bronzers and highlights so it looks like a fold in the skin.

Sorry I guess we have to agree to disagree, I like Reika's (and similar) makeup but I'm biased because Asian in Asia so I see makeup like hers and pic related a lot.
There's a bit of a gap between Asian aesthetics and Western aesthetics when it comes to cosplay makeup, and I'm willing to admit that-- the biggest one I can think of is female to male crossplay makeup where Westerners minimize "feminine" details in their makeup routine like copious amounts of eyeliner to look more male, but Asians don't particularly shy away from gratuitous amounts of eyeliner with the goal of looking attractive even if it doesn't look particularly masculine?

But hey I think that's probably a different discussion for a different day, sage for off topic post and photo.

Can anyone with this jacket (or any bought premade one, probably pretty much all the same) measure the dimensions of the patches (front, arms, back)? Height and Length is enough.
Reason is I already have my own patches that I'd rather use, but it'd look bad if they were any smaller than what's already on it. And no one sells just the jacket without the patches.

You just don't want people to notice that you build everything from plywood. Fill up every gap and sand it. Keep some of the sharp edges for later use.
No matter what material you are painting, plastic model tricks work on everything. Including drybrushing and multiple layers of thin paint.

It takes 3-4 hours more to finish those, but resault is worth it.

Do you sand by hand? I saw a group do the same thing you're describing (Junker's cosplay) and they used a DA polisher I think. I don't mind shelling money out for one if it'll help, I love accumulating hardware/tools. I do auto detailing as a side hobby and I've learned that machines produce way better and faster results than hand buffing, lol. Wondering if it's the same case here.

With machines you end up easilly rushing everything. After priming, you will notice some areas that should've been taken care more properly.
Detail work after priming is hell lot easier with even surface. Like you might want to add few cut markings where blades are attached and paintwash those cuts with acrylic paints before varnish layer.
Weathering effects (good tutorials in youtube with miniatures) makes wonders.

Noted. I've looked up stuff on weathering/detailing but haven't decided to delve into it yet, but I'll go mess around with fillers on whatever my next project is.
I'll do weathering on the grips and blade since those have tons of lines, but that'll be way later since there's no way I can make those by the upcoming cons in the next few weeks.

ok so I got myself a Jacket and it's a rough outdorsy m.aterial, I'm a bit satisfied with it.

Here's my dilema I need to make/buy/modify some boots, but I'm unsure whether or not i should make them shiny leather (like I see most cosplayers do) or go along with a more mate looking material and do the same with the waist fabric thing in order to keep some sort of uniformity.

If you're gonna make the resource argument, you have to look at the other shit they're wearing. The boots are clearly leather, so are the straps for 3DMG and the 3DMG itself isn't exactly resource-cheap either. Also consider how much land it takes to grow textile plants when arable land is also extremely scarce. Maybe meat is scarce because the nobility hogs it all but perhaps leather isn't in fashion so they let the military have it.

I think you can make a fair argument for either really, but I don't think Iseyama really put that much thought into the uniform design from that perspective.

Honestly, I'd rather they let the manga go on for a while and then remake it in a way that's more loyal to the storyline, FMA-style. They didn't fuck it up as much as the first FMA anime did, but they made enough changes that it might end up like that. They completely fucked up Hange's character in a way where her future actions won't make sense('why's she serious all of a sudden???'), and when Mikasa's carving in her wrist is finally talked about, the anime's going to have no goddamn idea how to deal with that situation.

Depends on your skill level and how fast you can work. A week could be enough time, but I don't think you can make a decent, finished 3DMG in a day unless you absolutely know what you're doing. I'm slow at patterning, and it took me a whole day just to measure and pattern out everything for my 3DMG from scratch.

Jacket just came in. Overall, not bad. Only complaint I have is the rear patch's lower right feather but I'm covering that up anyway. And it's a bit too orangey.

The shoulder straps and front pocket are functional via push button.

The front/size patches are pretty clean looking with minor imperfections that you can only see if you're really up close.

The collars aren't crazy huge, as well as the chest part, and the pockets are functional and don't look like bags on your chest. It'll work for $26.

Added a minor feature for kicks. Nuts and bolts hang on fish line at the back on the top panel. When moving, they hit the Altoids tin and sound exactly like the anime sound effects (at least to my ear).

Try it yourself if you have an empty Altoids tin around. If you have your keys and other crap on a spring link, dangle it onto the Altoids.
Discovered it when I pocketed my keys and Altoids in the same pocket.

Conjoined Smart Water bottles.
Used super glue.
On the top bottle, I cut off the entire top shaft with the threads. A 1/2" PVC bolt fits snugly at the top with the threads exposed using some hot glue, and let's you use a PVC tee (or whatever multitude of hardware threads there). Painted everything with Rustoleum Painter's Touch 2X Aluminum with 2 coats of same kind clear coat to dull the glitter and add gloss/depth like a real scuba tank.
It's also removable. Slides on/off.

I don't know any good way to get rid of the seams though. Be nice to know if someone does since I know I'm not the only one who used Smart Water bottles.

No time for tomorrow, but I'm gonna put an exposed thread on each side of the PVC tees and be able to hook up braided hoses whenever, which will hook to my core. Realism gets me giddy.

It's basically just a paint can with a PC fan inside. The other, closed side has the fancy trim thing on it. It goes on my belt via those ALICE clips (military pouch clips). It's not 100% accurate since the manga version looks more like a mini beer keg but it's cheap and easy.

The fan is actually powered by an airsoft motor too and spins dangerously fast. But it looks and sounds cool, lol. I just don't spin it when con ops is around. There's a button on my right handle that activates it.

I also got the idea when using dust off to clean some stuff, that I could put it inside and have the tip go through the center of the fan to make it look like gas is coming out. But I don't know if I should, since hell yeah it would look cool, but if I used it inside the convention center I might get yelled at. I'm just going to see how much extra time I have, and if I have enough I'll do it. Maybe there will be a photoshoot at con (not convention center) I can show it off at.
About accuracy, honestly I wouldn't worry about being 100% manga accurate because... Well, most people know how the manga version should generally look, but only watched the anime. So there shouldn't be too many sticklers, and if there are, you can always tell them to shove it. Not to mention artistic liberties, haha.
But I'm just gonna let you know, stealing the ALICE clips idea, I've been debating how I should attach it in my sketches and honestly that is about 10x better than anything I've come up with.

I actually totally forgot I posted here, I'm really sorry! Fortunately the other poster was right - I wasn't ready to place a taobao order so I got these off of ebay. They're a sheer, thin, soft fabric. I got a size M (I'm 5' 6", 110lbs, small-chested) and the shirt was big on me but the pants fit great. The cap is also large but super cute.
