To me it has everything to do with the hair. You don't want the hat like... just perched on the head and obviously sticking out (I don't even think the vm picture you have works, it's just... sticking out too much). So I like to see hats uh... 'nestled' into the hair, or framed within a bun or bump. I know this is a small image, but you can see Shelby has it kind of angled against the clip in, but you can still see part of the twin tail behind it.

Also, they always need to be worn at an angle, never fully on the top of the head. And I prefer short crown hats over most any other kind.

I've been there before. Baby Paris has a map, but I'll admit that I had a little trouble getting to 72 Avenue Ledru-Rollin because it's a long walk. Le Metro will take you directly to Ledru-Rollin, which is convenient for you since the other sites you want to see are also in the first arrondissement. When you get to Ledru-Rollin, you want to walk on the sidewalk where the corner McDonalds is at. Like I said, it's a long walk, so don't freak out if the streets suddenly get quiet. There are number plates on every building, so keep following that until you see a pink store front.

I was just touring through the country in 2009; I didn't have much time to be in Paris. Les Galleries LaFayette is pretty cool, in spite of it being a little touristy. It's a good place to go to if you like haute couture, but don't have time to check out their individual flag ship stores around the city. It sucks getting around though because there aren't any damn maps. I believe that they do fashion shows on their top floor. Note that there are two buildings - one for men's designer wear and the other (main building) for women (yeah, it's that big - also, Vivienne Westwood isn't a big presense in Paris - there was only a booth for her things rather than a store front when I was there). I never got to go, but if I got the chance to go back, I'd check out their outdoor flea markets and second hand shops (use your google-fu). I imagine that you'd feel less heckled by those sellers than the gypsies you're bound to run into or the haute couture shop attendees.

I don't know if you're just staying in Paris or not, but if you're touring through the country, I highly recommend Mont Saint Michel. Yes, it is a giant tourist trap, but damn, it's an awesome place to take Gothic Lolita photoshoots at (I'd probably bring a pair of comfortable shoes with you).
Like I said, I didn't get much time visiting the city (hell, the Louvre was closing when I got there, but at least there is a public viewing area).

I believe that Boddywood used to be nearby in the Bastille area, but they're closed now.

"Works in the public domain are those whose intellectual property rights have expired, have been forfeited, or are inapplicable. Examples include the works of Shakespeare and Beethoven, The King James Bible, most of the early silent films, the formulae of Newtonian physics, and the patents on powered flight. The term is not normally applied to situations where the creator of a work retains residual rights, in which case use of the work is referred to as "under license" or "with permission"."

I like to buy the matching print tote, then I use it to keep all the socks and headbows from that print. Then I hang it next to the dresses themselves (I usually only do this for prints I really like and have multiples of).

Otherwise, they're handy for what they're marketed as -- ecototes. They fold up pretty flat, so you can put one in your handbag. Then when you go shopping, instead of carrying a bunch of small bags from various shops you can put all of your shopping things into the ecotote. It's not big enough to carry all my groceries, but sometimes I meet up with my girl friends in a shopping mall and we'll hit up several accessory and fashion shops and end up with several plastic bags from each shop. It's cuter in lolita, your ecotote will always match your outfit so you don't have random other bags cluttering up any photos, and you'll be saving the environment by not using plastic bags.

I also used one to carry A4-sized files. They stick out of the top but the handles are long enough to carry the bag just fine. I've also put my drawing materials into one, so I carried it into a cafe to wait for my friend, then when we moved to another location I left the bag in the car rather than lug it around the whole day.

I wouldn't use one as a handbag, but as an additional bag to carry things in, they're actually a really useful size. My Sugary Carnival stuff now ends up being stored in the DDC bag because I'm always using the SC tote bag for something or another.

Hi frillies! Question.

Should I order from Qutieland out of sheer convenience, or order from Infanta on taobao through an agent? Is the cost significantly less with the latter?

taobao would be my first suggestion, there's a lot of good stores in the taobao thread spreadsheets. taobao can be a little intimidating if you're not used to it, but I promise it's not as hard to use as it looks.

bodyline would be my second, but their quality really depends a lot on how much you're paying for the item - their $13 dresses and their $60 dresses are not on the same level at all. If you go this route please post the stock pics of what you're thinking of buying so we can let you know if it's ita or not.

finally, I would scan Lolita Sales in English on facebook and egl_comm_sales on lj for good deals on brand, offbrand, whatever.

please don't go fan+friend, they tend to get measurements wrong and their pieces are inconsistent in terms of quality lolita wear, and milanoo is obviously right out. Etsy can be very hit-or-miss, it really depends on who you're buying/commissioning from.

I'm not an expert but here's some basic tips?

Step 1: Decide on a colour palette and a style you would like to start out with. (Deciding what colours you like best and work well for you will help save money when you're starting out because everything will hopefully match! )

Step 2: Look out for items you like on 2nd hand lolita sales / taobao.
(>>7148143)

Step 3: Collect things that will go with your general wardrobe and build up a basic coherent wardrobe before expanding it with other colours / styles.

Step 4*: Make a wishlist! I tend to do this to keep my impulse spending under control and will have enough money to find pieces that makes my heart go doki doki.

But these are just guidelines, might work for some and not for others.

Most of my brand blouses seem to be a bit sheer. Does that mean its ment to have a cardigan or boloro worn over it.. or a camisole under it.. or both. Because i feel like adding a camisole under it still looks a bit weird. Any suggestions as to what to do? Also one of my long sleeve blouses has like a long hardisgh wrist part/cuff area. It seems to be double the cuff area of most other long sleeve blouses... Is that meant for anything?

Opinions on altering brand, please? I don't mean anything drastic like completely chopping up a piece and making it into something else entirely, but more like removing some excess lace or frills, for example.
Asking because I have a dress I'd like to tone down a bit. It's nothing coveted, I don't think, but I wouldn't want to end up in a future ita thread for destroying brand.

As soon as you take a seam ripper to anything, the value of it plummets by half, sometimes down to nothing, especially if it wasn't a popular piece to begin and your alterations aren't top notch. You pretty much have to accept that you might never be able to sell this piece afterwards, even at a heavily discounted price, or else don't alter it, just sell it on and get something else you like better.

As for being bitched out in an ita thread, if your alterations are neat and professional-looking, you'll be fine, I've seen so many altered pieces on the sales comm and only one or two really terrible hack jobs get bitched out. If you're unsure whether the alterations you have in mind will improve the dress, or you're unsure whether it'll actually be much harder than you think, post here and ask for advice first before attempting it. You'd be surprised how very small things can more difficult than you'd think.

Could it be that your blouses are chiffon? In that they are supposed to be sheer. Chiffon blouses suit jsks most in my opinion. However a cami under it could work if it's in a similair colour. Depending on the style of lolita you wear, a bustier or corset could suit well. I'm not really sure about the cuff area to be honest, it could be for decoration, or it may have another use.

For lolitas wanting opinions of the shops in Paris:

The btssb shop is very cute and small, don't expect to spend a ton of time inside since last time I went there weren't a lot of stocks. A bit quiet, the staff is friendly and ok.

Boddywood: They stopped having AP things but there's still some stocks and they also have used dresses. I recommend going there and not listen to bad reviews, the staff is friendly and probably won't engage conversation but will gladly answer (or did to me at least).
They stopped selling AP because AP over estimated the selling rate in Paris because the cons gave the illusion of a lot of shoppers.
They have a lot of cute stuff at a good price and while some described it as "messy" I actually liked this kind of "mess".

In the same street, you'll find a lot of shops selling games, cosplay and lolita stuff, it can be worth a look but they have a lot of overpriced ita stuff. I also found Secret shop socks for 12€ so it can be ok.

Princess Crêpes : Go there, it's super cute and decorated with Btssb stuff. Price is really ok (3 to 5€)

Also a cat coffee opened. Didn't go there yet.

To be honest there's lots of shops I don't know about, I actually love vintage shops (in the Marais they're opened on sundays too for some, for example Acqua Rêves) and you can find great deals in them.

She hasn't been anything but polite, but it's more a matter of her posting etiquette than her interpersonal interactions that people are upset about. The depth of her cluelessness and the continual spamming are starting to get to people.

She and a couple of other new lolitas (including Yasmin) are filling the comm up lately with questions that are answered easily with a Google search or by using the links provided every time they ask. We don't usually have a lot of intellectual discussion or anything like that, but we use the comm to get meets going and the like, and those posts are disappearing under a hail of "is Loris reliable?" "where do I buy pastel lolita items?" "I can't afford this dress, boo hoo" and "is this lolita?" posts.

And don't get me started on their awful crafting endeavours.

So I made my first purchase on etsy and was disappointed... the item I received (I feel) is not an accurate approximation of the stock image - as in there's supposed to be ruffled lace, but for the most part there is none. What "ruffles" are there are unevenly spaced, it's pretty obvious when looking at it. I messaged the seller with my concerns, but I'm not really sure what can be done about it. Clearly there's no store policy on this, what usually happens in a case like this?

I'll admit I'm a real fucking stickler, since I usually make things myself, but I feel like for what I paid for the item it needs to be near flawless. All I know is this is the last time I buy handmade, since I can do a better job myself.

Alright, thanks! I don't plan on selling the JSK, and I'll avoid it entirely if I do end up altering it. It looks something like pic related, with a tiered skirt, except instead of the ruffle 'layers' going all around, they're in two separate sections on the front, left and right, and one part on the back, but I might keep that one.
I wanted to remove the ruffles because I really like this dress and want to wear it for casual use. Also because they're so fluffy, when I wear my least poofy petticoat, it ends up being significantly wider at the top of the skirt than the bottom. Like, at my waist, the dress will be very flared out because of the ruffles, but then nearly drop straight down with only a slight slope outward.

What does everyone think of Baby's new Christmas print?

>> No.7149959

Makes me nostalgic as fuck and I need it on my body.

I really want to start getting into Baby. I like sweet and classic and I feel I'm growing out of OTT. I think baby is the perfect mix... But I have no idea how to do reserves or buy things from their site (navigating seems so hard? When I click 'reserves' nothing is ever on that link). I just send them an email according to their international page, right?

>> No.7149964

>>7149962
oh wow I am too much of an idiot to be worthy of their clothes, I didn't realize you had to agree to the damn reservation terms. Well now I know.

I think it's adorable as fuck but it looks awkward in every colour but pink (and possibly beige?), and I don't do pink at all. I can't wait to see people make beautiful co-ords with it, though.

It's expensive as fuck.

The OP is fucking gorgeous. The print reminds me of those little miniature winter town models people sometimes make.

Is it something that can solved by using an A-line petti instead of a cupcake petti? Since you say a major part of the problem is that there's too much fluff on top and not enough after the first tier.

I'm having a lot of problems imagining what you're describing as well, from what I gather, you want to remove the top ruffle tiers from two side panels of a skirt? I'd be really careful before starting, those are usually sewn right into the skirt, so ripping it out usually means you'll be ripping the bodice from the skirt, and ripping apart where the side panel joins the front panel and where it joins the back panel. If the skirt was made with the kind of finish where it's serged after the seams are sewn.... lady, you're in for a lot of ripping and resewing. Plus, you have to check what's underneath those ruffles and see if the sewing there is fit to see daylight.

In other words, it's a lot of work, and you could easily mess it up if you don't have sewing experience. If you really want to do it, I'd recommend you take it to a tailor's instead of doing it yourself.

I really, really love it. I've never been tempted to buy a Christmas print before, but... as someone who grew up setting up little glass Christmas villages with my mom every year, this makes me so happy and so nostalgic. I'm seriously considering reserving it, even if I only wear it a few times a year.

I don't care about the print but GOD DO I WANT THAT BONNET

Me too, Anon. I've never had a bonnet though and I'm scared it won't look good.

Is 27,000 yen a good price for the white toy fantasy OP?

Does anyone know if IW's Rose Basket Angel can be hand washed?

It looks quite nice! If you're able to find a ruffly cardigan to wear over it, it would be another good alternative like you mentioned.

The point of the blouse is the nice collar/sleeves. Most plain button downs don't have them. Even plain cutsews and the like have some detail or trim on the collar/cuffs, even the ones that look like plain roll-neck pullovers. Maybe you could modify a pullover with a teeny bit of lace?

Question: I sent my first post to the comm sales on Livejournal last night, and it still hasn't been approved or rejected 18 hours later. Is this normal? I'm not sure was the usual waiting time is.

They've been really slow lately, as I understand there's a large backlog. I had a post take well over 24 hours, and it only went up after I PM'd a mod to let them know it was time-sensitive. If you need it to go up soon, PM someone. Otherwise it may take a while.

I'm feeling the same way about the other colors, I think it's because of the pinkish saturation of the border print, it doesn't work well with all the colorways.
I wish they made something like pic related instead, this print would be so perfect for more toned down colorways.

That's so freaking adorable! I wish I could be a beginner lolita's fairy-lolita godmother for just one day and take them to town.
