Also I realized I didn't answer the question.
For one thing it isn't nearly as hysterical as it is in the US. Of course, we are only about 200 fans in Sweden, but regardless we don't have a lot of horribad smearmonsters.

The cosplay quality has a very high average in comparsion to say, the US. However this doesn't seem to be the case in many other European countries. We don't have a lot of GREAT cosplayers, as in who regularly churn out amazing costumes, especially not in the fandom. But there are a few good cosplayers for most characters.
We don't have communities in the same sense as you do, I am fairly sure. There is a facebook group but there are not set organizers of anything. Meetups occur in Stockholm around twice on three months, but are frequent at cons. At smaller cons the number of homestucks is usually small which actually opens up for things such as mafia games or more open discussions, this years biggest con (and the biggest homestuck meet we will probably get here in Sweden) had around 100 attendees.

Not to mention the first two homestuck panels which were held at a smaller con and at Närcon this year. Promstuck is apparently being planned for next year, which is pretty cool I guess. Though I sorta fear that the fandom peaked this summer. Oh well.

There were a handful of noteworthy costumes but I nobody whose name I've heard before. We could turn rookie tier into one hit wonders but it sort of defeats the purpose of having a who-to-follow list when those people might not be making new things.

What's the best way to apply darker body/face paint (ben nye cake) and seal it so it doesn't smear or anything? Applying it, waiting for it to dry, then applying 3 coats of sealer (waiting for it to dry between each one) still makes it spot a bit on cloth (Definitely rubbing off when rubbed by skin or clothing), and it wears a bit thin on spots that flex a lot (corners of cheeks and the like)
Am I doing something wrong? Should I be applying multiple layers or something, use more sealant spray, or seal with something else in addition?

It seems like you missed powder.

Actually, powder is more important than sealant spray, which to me only really makes the make up easier to wear.
So you're going to want translucent powder, doff that on your bodypaint and spread it until the paint isn't sticky anymore. When you think you've powdered enough, powder some more.

It also helps having some sort of primer underneath, for me just a skincare cream works fine.

Wash skin, then apply lotion
Apply a coat of ben nye enough to get the desired shade
Apply powder as soon as the makeup has dried
Spray with a coat of sealant, wait till the sealant is done, then spray again and let it dry?

Also, I've heard some good things about a light dusting of baby powder in place of clear powder, do these claims hold any water?

Anything that isn't translucent powder will lighten the make up. Babypowder will lighten it the least, and flour isn't exactly pleasant to seal with so there's that.
These techniques work on all shades, but like I said, it will most likely lighten your make up a bit.

Thinking of finding a pattern for footie pyjamas and buying some really cheap fabric to use. Gelling my hair up(a lot) and he's going to use sharpie to give himself 5 o clock shadow.
Going to do some facial makeup for that porkchop mouth and someone suggested using padding to get that wierd lumpy physique, which sounds like a good idea.
I have very little experience with textiles, but I'm going to get my mum to help me with this, although, looking through patterns it doesn't seem too hard and most fuck-ups that occur will contribute to the overall costumes.

Vriska's wig is too curly, Equius is lackluster, Gamzee is okay, Eridan's purples don't coordinate, Feferi's in bad lighting but her armsocks are too dark. Paint, Slick, Aradia, Tavros, and Sollux are all mediocre. Karkat's symbol looks really shoddy and Kanaya's are too large (her hook horn is positioned kind of wonky too). Caliborn is a trainwreck. Really, really streaky. You have to paint on like ten layers to get any good consistency in color. It smells amazing, though. Of course, different brands/kinds of paint will react differently depending on your skin, but I've heard more often than not that this particular brand just doesn't apply smoothly.

This is what I use and I love it - you do have to apply 2-3 layers but it's way lighter and more comfortable than Ben Nye, especially if your skin is sensitive like mine. It smears less, too, even before sealing. Use a sponge to dab it on, don't try to paint or rub it like Nye.


The only thing is it doesn't come in troll gray so you have to mix the grey and white. Yaexrae has a good tutorial for mixing any water base.

Actually I've met 'em all for the most part.
Two in particular have gotten on every nerve in my body despite there being billions of them. They made a poor attempt at ruining the reputation group I'm a part of, which only resulted in dramu. People stood up for us though since we're good people. I wont say the asshole's names in case they see this and vendettafag me and my group. (like before and made a whole tumblr post about it and we had to apologize despite not doing shit, yada-yada)
Still kinda nervous being around them since they're so high-up on the Asshole Hierarchy. Moral of the story:Don't become a part of SFL-Stuck meetups. There is always a group of assholes there.

First, the usuals: Clean, flawless construction, smooh and canon-accurate horns (most people seem to prefer gradient, though I like the canon blocked colors), flawless makeup.

I personally don't like when Vriskas get aviators. They are just kind of unattractive, especially with the bar. I also have a personal preference for messy, layered wigs over curly/wavy wigs. papayamaryam and mugwumpquest have really nice wigs imo.

An impressive prop will definitely set you apart. A pirate flag? A treasure chest?

Hello, I'm not the anon you asked, but I have those lenses (from youknowit?)

I have astigmatism so I can't really vouch for how comfortable they would be on someone with normal eyes (mine tend to irritate my eyes after a while).

It's like looking through a heavy fog. You can see enough to navigate around the room but not well enough to see any details. I wouldn't try to drive with them on, for example.

If you are going to get clown white greasepaint you should also invest in clown white powder to set with. Its better than using the translucent setting powder and makes it more of an even white tone.

I do suggest contouring after setting though... probably with powder eye shadow. that's up to you.
