I've never even heard of her. I think buying Facebook Likes is stupid as shit. I know of this one girl (who browses /cgl/ so I won't say her name) who obviously bought Facebook likes. One week she had about 100 or less. Then about 3 weeks later she had over 10K. I looked at her wall and all these random people who obviously didn't know a thing about cosplay or who she was were saying some very mean things about her. Comments ranged from, "Is this a man?" (well... she does look manly) to "Wtf is this guy doing?!" and "Lol loser."

Facebook has given me some free ad money for hitting XXXX Likes, but I've never used it. Is she actually paying for the ads or just cashing in the freebie?

Why do people think being a convention cosplay guest is so prestigious? You can apply to any convention to be a cosplay guest. You apply and offer to run/moderate some panels. BAM your a guest with a pass and usually a free table.

My friend did this for his art commissions and got close to 1K in likes because of it. He made thousands of dollars making beautiful portraits for people.

Just because you apply doesn't mean you get it. Bigger name cons are really picky about who they get as cosplay guests and what benefits they'll actually comp.

Some places will only comp you a badge and you have to do panels/work for the con. Getting your room and travel expenses comped is really difficult and is often only given to the 'big names'.

So yeah, buying Likes on FB is pretty dumb and a waste of money. Just looking at her Starfire you can see that her craftsmanship level is not high enough to earn a fully compensated guest stint.

I think the ads are fine if you actually have a product or service you are offering. I've seen cosplayers who do commissions do the ads and they really help with driving traffic (and therefore paying customers) to their page.

However, if you're doing it just to be "cosplay famous" that pretty stupid.

Also - if you're not stupid - you can target your ads to only show to people who have listed certain interests on their FB profile. Example - on my ad, I had it shown only to people who listed cosplay, costuming, anime, and/or video games as an interest of theirs. Less of a chance of capturing assholes who don't get cosplay.

Maybe it's just me but I feel it's bullshit. For people who don't know what she's doing she's going to seem like yaya Han status eventually for shit costumes while people who actually do good work will be ignored. It's people like that that should have their pages deleted.

Hmm, her page is really active so I doubt she is buying likes (paying for promoted posts/ads is not the same as buying likes, most people pay for promoted posts just so all their followers will see their posts since facebook is a dirty hoe and caps this, but any followers gained from doing this will be real anyway).

If you buy likes the likes are fake accounts which is yes, daft since it doesn't add to the activity of the page and they are very liable to suddenly drop off. If you notice her numbers suddenly drop 10k in a month, then there is your evidence I guess!

Buying fake likes isn't always fake accounts? You know those scams that were running around where if you clicked on a link, then that link would be sent to all your friends, etc, etc? That stays there with your information. That's why if it's ever happened to you, you don't remember liking a page, but it's just 'liked'. Most of the time, it'll be similar to other pages you've liked:

JNig gets invited as a guest because she has been hired by gaming companies to be the model for their advertising. She was the official Lollypop chainsaw girl. She's done additional promotions since then. Companies fly her to Japan for this. She is a professional, whether or not anyone wants to admit it.

I've worked several cons and I've been the one to make the decision on who gets invited as a guest and facebook likes really don't factor in for me. Now, having a facebook page usually does because it's a way to see if the person is active in the community and that they can present themselves well. I always look for skill over "fame" but I also try to make sure the person is someone most people in that area will have heard of.

A recommended "like" isn't the same as sponsored or paid for. These always pop up when you like a new page or when your friends begin following the page. I think it's hilarious that people think buying ad space is shady. Purchasing an ad on FB is a legitimate way to put yourself out there and gain REAL likes. All it does is put you in the sidebar, randomly, to people who list particular interests (you set this up when creating the ad, i.e. only showing the ad to people who list "cosplay" as an interest). People choose whether or not to click on your ad, and if they like what they see, they may like your page. It is simple advertising, and no different than putting a banner link on any other site.

Outright buying likes through one of he services screencapped above is shady as shit. They're not real fans, most (if not all) of the accounts are dummies with the sole intention of making you look more popular than you actually are.

Whilst it seems like I have progressed a lot, a lot of cosplayers who had less than me a week ago, or near to it, have shot past me (Giada Robin, Eve Beauregard). Taby had a huge spike for her, too. But yeah I haven't bought anything and I highly doubt any of my friends have, since they were all relatively happy going up as they were. Well guys, I had the pleasure of taking part in a filmed cosplay contest in which she was one of three judges. I was verbally abused, called a liar, and she made all attempts to intimidate me on stage short of making the altercation physical. All of this took place, on stage in front of a room of semi-professional cosplayers, fans and crew. Her stack of cards has crumbled people. Multiple people went up to her after the show and ripped into her for not only her treatment of me but her blatant and obvious disgust she had for all the female contestants and her rude judgement of all the people competing. She had the nerve to rip into an amazing Iron Man cosplayer by scoffing 'Thats all you can do' and sneering at him when he explained how he had made every inch of his suit. The damn thing was wired!! It was amazing!!!

The producer apologized multiple times for her actions and almost everyone came up after the show to me to say how sorry they were for how she acted and how she was a total and utter cunt and applauded me for how civil and professional I was.

It was honestly really disgusting, I went on the show just to have a little fun. I don't do competitive cosplay normally but when the producers contacted me I figured this was one of those once and a life times chances and that it sounded like fun.

This is why I always check the talking about you section to see if people buy likes or ads because they would be super low. On average the 'Talking about this' is between 1/3 to 1/2 off their total likes. occassionally there will be a huge spike like on Nicole Marie Jean's page but that was just because she posted a picture that got spread everywhere for a day.
