Despite the constant "BELIEVE IT" and 13 year olds, they're not as just awful as most of the homestucks.
However, I think half of the nostalgia comes from the fact that I was around 13. Obnoxious 13 year olds to another 13 year old is way better that obnoxious 13 year olds to a 21 year old.

It's still weird to see Naruto cosplays at cons though. Like death note. They peaked and then died pretty fast.

Narutards could be just as bad as Hetalias and Homestucks. The body paint is a new level for sure, but Narutards were definitely also annoying trying to 'fight' each other while looking cool. This could have just been at cons I went to though.

I like how Naruto cosplay is now. There are still dumbass babby's first anime cosplayers, but it's not pervasive enough to annoy me at a con.

I don't get it. I feel like, despite how the fandom has died down and a lot of the annoying people have left, that there's still a lot of shitty or just plaid weird cosplay. I don't know what it is, but I feel like it's always just...a bunch of tiny details that get glossed over and even cosplays that are decent look really...frumpy?

I see what you mean. I think it has to do with the clothing design, how it's tight in some places, and saggy/loose in others. It's just part of the style that doesn't lend itself well to reality.

I'm feeling a lot of nostalgia for it these days (Bleach too). Especially since my first cosplays were all Naruto-related, I've got some good memories.

I think it could be a good chance to revive it a bit, actually. Most of us who were into it at its peak have grown up and become much more experienced cosplayers now, so the overall quality would be so much better. I think enough time has passed that it's no longer automatically a huge weeb alert?

I wasn't going to cons when Naruto was at its peak, but it makes me sad to see that there are so few at cons now. Although its still true that allot of them are so bad quality that its painful to look at, at least they don't get grey paint everywhere, and also with bad Naruto cosplayers its just the costume looks bad, Ive seen some terrible quality paint on these people and its like their whole existence looks bad. The Naruto cosplayers now tend to be better quality, because its less popular, so you know the people who are cosplaying really give a shit about the series and tend to be on the OK/decent side of the spectrum .

It's definitely hit or miss still. The good is REALLY good, but the not so good...well. I did have the pleasure of judging Pikabellchu's genderbent version of Itachi if he was a girl living in the Renaissance.

I think part of the problem comes from the fact that the villains are kind of right. The world of Naruto is a fucked up place that has endemic warfare, child soldiers, and rampaging demon hellbeast WMDs as part of the status quo. It's kind of hard to argue that just about any change to the status quo, be it the Akatsuki plan or the Eye of the Moon one, wouldn't be a demonstrable improvement.

Naruto's grimdark as fuck if you stop to think about the setting at all, which Kishi, for better of the worse, apparently doesn't.
