On the subject of bias tape, I hate when people don't use it and try to "make their own" and it ends up as a fraying, uneven piece of fabric.

They may not be the most kawaii glasses out there, but they're styling though. I have four pairs black, white, and two pinks a darker one and a pastel pink.
So I do have my bases covered with my color choices in lolita, and I don't wear OTT.

I was about to say how I never realized people had something against that! (neat top stitch, I mean)

I like to help my friends here and there, especially those getting started and letting them know some of the basics of sewing and where to get some tutorials and whatnot. But every now and again, there's those few who astound me that they cannot do anything for themselves to try to find simple answers. I can understand when they are going through a tricky concept, but the Internet is filled with great tutorials and videos.

I get texts daily of people who insist on having me watch over them while making their costumes, and when they ask for advice, I will direct them with the basic gist of it and some supplemental sites and videos. Instead, they pull the, "Oh, I cannot do it at all...could you do it for me?" And they think to pull this on every step of the way.

Giving out cosplay sewing "advice" and some help doesn't mean that I'm going to make it for you. If you distinctively want everything done for you, then it's called a commission. I'm not going to sew your whole costume for free.

I've been looking around what to get my body ready for to read through next, and then I saw the Sengoku Koihime characters. I'll probably pla on this one for 2014 after playing through it in December.

Other than that, Tenjou Utena from Utena, someone from Tears to Tiara II, Alexiel from Angel Sanctuary, and Sakura from Cardcaptor Sakura. Everything else might be stuff I'll pick out over time.

My growing annoyance is with cosplayers whose goals have completely shifted to becoming famous. Getting likes on Facebook, having their photo shared on a nerdy website and being showered with compliments and attention from their "fans" is the most important thing. They no longer take the time to craft something and will just buy most of the costume instead and photoshop the rest so they can hurry up and get new photos ready to sell prints in their online stores. Get over yourselves!

You can, but some people don't consider it the 'proper' way, the proper way being to stitch down the short side and then stitch-in-the-ditch to catch the long side. Personally, I think top-stitching looks kinda lumpy and weird no matter how neatly it's done. I usually stitch down the short side on the outside like normal, and then slipstitch the long side by hand on the inside, because I suck at stitching-in-the-ditch.

Even with the recent shit on /cgl/ I didn't care as much, until I realized I knew someone like this.

It's a friend of a friend and I met this girl a few times. She is very pretty but I can't get past the "nerdz are sexii and so cool, I'm a nerd too!" Its so annoying, this girl uses other friends so she can borrow their cosplay and Lolita. She streams shit of legends in full makeup and loses every game. I didn't realize this until recently so now I had to vent. I don't get it, it moved from hurr modeling>import/car modeling>cosplay/gurl gamer modeling.

I hate it when you work super hard on a cosplay and then it gets ripped apart. I'm not talking about due to construction or how they made it like the top stitch on the bias tape. (I hate that too)

I hate the nit-pickers who comment on the color being a half shade darker than how it appears in the show, or the skirt being too long, or you're too fat to dress up like that character. If it is barely noticeable in shading difference, then it's fine. If the skirt on the character is almost up to her business, there isn't a chance in hell I'm wearing it that high. If someone's looking up my skirt I'm kicking their ass plain and simple. Cosplay is supposed to be for fun. Fat people have the same right as anyone else to dress up and support their characters. If you don't like it, too bad and suck it up people are at conventions to have fun not to deal with someone's whiny bitch ass.

Oh and I do get increasingly annoyed at people who enter cosplay contests with a painfully simple cosplay i.e. L or Waldo. It's fine if you're in a group, but a single person alone should not enter that outfit. I have seen someone in a Waldo outfit (Which for some retarded reason was put in the Anime category. The host con was stupid.) win over a complete Bleach cosplay group. An outfit that simple that can be pulled off by anyone being entered into a contest is lazy and should be taken out of consideration.

I hate the influx of shitty "ask ___" blogs on tumblr where bloggers respond to asks with gifs of them in half-assed cosplay. There are some that are alright and a few that are actually pretty good/entertaining, but A LOT of them are really painful. I don't really want to see a chubby chick and her friend dryhumping eachother while dressed as "casual" versions of whatever character(s) I'm looking up.

Speaking of tumblr, I hate the thing the whole "Hey let's shoehorn as much diversity into this fandom as we can!" thing they do sometimes. I thought SnK would totally go under their radar since that swimming anime is still on, but I was terribly, terribly wrong. If anything, it seems to have caught it the worst out of all the tumblr 'flavor of the month' fandoms. Could just be my imagination since my dash is currently flooded with bullshit, though.

Maybe Sasha? Armin, Connie, Levi and even Ymir usually are the ones that are pegged as either ftm, mtf, though. (There was one blogger who tagged a bunch of Armin posts with "trannytitanfood" or something to that effect. I was just like 'wat'.)

If Sasha is given a token, they make her the chubby or super curvy one because she likes food. Sometimes they'll do the same to Reiner, Marco or Hanji. Which to me, unless they have some kind of genetic predisposition, that doesn't make logical sense considering they're soldiers who go through rigorous physical training and get rationed food. The whole "Mikasa is super jacked" head canon makes more sense than that. (Although if I had to pick a girl to have a really athletic build, my personal bet would be either Annie or Sasha just based on their lifestyles and abilities.)

They do the whole "everyone's a different race" thing, too. Connie is black, Marco is Latino, etc. etc. (Also for some reason, they make Jean have eating disorders and some kind of weird internalized homophobia half the time?)

The thing is, that the world in SnK is actually already pretty egalitarian. Women fight in combat alongside men and seem to be of pretty equal status and power. There are several instances of dialogue that you could argue suggests sexual preference/same-sex relationships aren't that big of a deal. Same goes for Interracial marriage. Heck, you don't even need to try and pigeon-hole a character into a certain race since most of their names suggest they have heritage from several different ethnicities or cultures.

I get if you belong to a certain group and want a character to identify with. But it seems like a lot of these people just start slapping labels on characters willy nilly, regardless to whether or not it makes logical sense in the story. It reminds me of a lot of shows in the 90s that wanted to be "inclusive" so they would make a black character with glasses who was in a wheelchair or something.

I'm starting to see this more and more. Sometimes, they try so hard to be accepting and inclusive, it has just the opposite effect. I saw one user (I can't remember if it was on tumblr or what) insisting that Annie and Bertholdt HAD TO BE JEWISH just because of their noses. It might be interesting to see one of the characters struggle with their identity in a way that fits into the SnK world and how it functions, but most of the time, that's just not the case. They don't do it in a way that seems realistic to me.

I just wish there was a way I could filter all that stuff out when I'm browsing tags or looking through my dash.

Most of the ones I've run across are white, but have a great-great grandmother that was Native American/South American/whatever so they "identify" as that race. Then they add a bunch of other labels ("I'm genderfluid pansexual body positive polyamorous neuroatypical and I present as femme. I have a friend who latches onto things I like, acts obsessed but never bothers to either watch the show, or play the games. And then tries to hit on guys using things she's heard me say about them. It's disgusting. Her most recent love is Touhou, but doesn't care enough to play the games or learn anything about the characters apart from what she overhears me and other friends talking about.

Last convention I went to I saw soooooooooooooo many Doctor Who cosplays, especially the 10th & 11th Doctors, Rose and Amy Pond.

Just because you're wearing a pinstripe suit and red Converse =/= 10th Doctor cosplay.

Just because you're wearing a suit jacket, bowtie and fez =/= 11th Doctor cosplay.

Just because you are blonde and wearing a Union Jack tshirt doesn't make you Rose, nor is it clever. Likewise with being a redhead and wearing a plaid shirt.

The other thing was people buying the shit off ThinkGeek.com - fezes, 4th Doctors hat & scarf, etc - it is poorly-made, mass-produced crap that doesn't look much like what appeared in the show.

If you're going to do a simplistic cosplay it better be spot-on. Don't be lazy! I saw probably 500 Tardis Dresses but hey, at least that takes some effort to make.

I think homestucks feel going to ren fests in cosplay is acceptable because trolls are "mythical creatures" (except they're not - aren't they aliens?) and I've seen plenty of people dressing up as demons or just wearing horns with their outfits, so they figure it's ok.

To keep this more on topic, a friend of a friend of mine has this kind of attitude and it bugs the hell out of me. She always latches on to our group at cons and we CANNOT shake her off.

There's one guy in our circle of friends who is kind of interested in cosplay and toying with the notion of starting it, but he's kind of shy so he's still not sure. He's a total sweetheart despite the fact that he looks like a hulking metalhead (which he is). He also happens to be gay. This girl is absolutely freaking him out and I swear half the time I think she wants to bone him. She says she likes 'pretty boys' and keeps suggesting all these feminized costumes for him. Or if he expresses an interest in cosplaying a character, she suggests ways to feminize the costume. They don't match his looks at all, they're not the kind of thing he'd be comfortable with and most of them are fandoms he's never even heard of, but she's still trying to pressure him into doing them because she thinks he has "bishie potential". She's a crossplayer too and keeps dropping dark hints about doing fanservice pictures with him. When she's not doing that she's going "We need to find you a boy to kiss!"
