Couldn't find a kigu thread, so why not.

How do people usually react to people wearing kigurumis in cons, anyway? I received a Hello Kitty kigu as a gift a couple of weeks ago, and I thought I might wear it when I'm not cosplaying at a con, but I dunno, I feel I might be looked down upon if I wore one.

>> No.7095951

As long as you don't wear it all day, every single day of the con, you'll be fine. Most people wear kigus towards the end/at night, when everything starts winding down, so you really won't be out of place at all.

>> No.7095952

Do you honestly care?

>> No.7095954

Well, I think kigus are comfy clothes to use at home, I wouldn't wear one for a con or outside the house. It's like going in pajamas, IMO. But if you like it just wear it for the con! Who cares what other people think. Just enjoy yourself.

>> No.7095968

I've read about people in kigus being labelled as furries, and a furry is the last thing I want to be pegged as.

>> No.7095993

I normally wear mine for the first day/half day of the con when I'm going to be doing a lot of travelling- I can be comfy all the way there and not need to change when I get to the con. It's an excuse to weeb out hardcore with themed makeup and a matching wig.

What. A single band of elastic on the sleeve is not a selling point. It is literally the easiest way to finish a cuff, requiring minimal time and effort OP only has four buttons down the front, which looks amazingly cheap when compared to one with more, such as the charmander other-anon posted. The only lining I think I see is in the hood. Is it lined with more fleece OP? That's a terrible idea. Hair sticks to fleece and works itself into the fibers, so all the hair you shed will stick with you. Line the hood in flannel or sweatshirt material instead.

I'm sure some little teenager would be happy to have daddy shell out the 100 for a plain kigu, but frankly, there are better and cheaper alternatives.

I personally love my Spyro kigu and usually wear it on evenings/sundays of cons, when I'm too lazy or tired to wear a full cosplay. I also use it as lounge wear at home all the time. I've only worn it out in public outside of a con once to pick up some things at a drug store. I got lots of smiles and the cashier complimented me on it. I personally think it's classier than wearing pj's to stores like so many people do.
It also came in handy when I was hanging in the blanket fort at Atomic Lollipop. It's like wearing a blanket without having to wear pj's underneath the blanket.

I bought a short purple wig and I wear green circle lenses with it to give it some extra effort. I want to make matching dragon feet slippers to wear with it too. I wore it for 5 hours on Sunday of FanExpo this year and got wayyyy more photos than I expected to get. Tons of compliments as well. One of the best purchases I've ever made at a con.
I don't try to pass it off as a "cosplay", I only wear it when I'm tired from wearing a costume all day/weekend.

The concept is the same as a gusset. An important idea to comprehend in the sewing world!
The gusset 1) gives you more of a canvas for faces, since you'd be sewing them onto a flat surface instead of on a seam, and 2) makes the hood surround the head in a more ball-like way, rather than relying on the flexibility of the fabric.

Check out this plushie tutorial on gussets to learn more: http://whileshenaps.typepad.com/whileshenaps/2011/01/elements-of-soft-toy-design-8-head-gussets.html
pic related, the gusset is the leaf shaped part on the top of the bird's head.

I actually bought my Korilakkuma kigu off of Amazon which has both of them from Sazac.

I was so happy because I noticed the price dropped for my kigu to $48 and I was on that faster than the speed of sound.

I'm not terribly good at making hoods, so I just made a super huge one, so it turned out to be extra round when I applied it to the base. It was so large that I had to tuck pieces of it back under and away so it wouldn't be ridiculously massive.

The thickness came from lining the inside with the same material. 2 layers of anti-pill fleece will do the trick!

Probably because they borrow more from his Skylanders design than the others.
The ones I've seen from ebay seem to have a black embroidered logo on one sleeve but I can't make it out.
And some others have a recycled Godzilla face (dot nose, eyes facing sideways) that looks awful.

How easy is it to sew a Kigu if one has no experience with sewing at all? I have a mom who can help me a bit, but I doubt she wants to make such a thing. I am asking, because I love kigu's. They are my source of warmth in the cold winters. I own two at the moment, an Angel one (Lilo and Stitch) and a Rilakkuma, but I would love it if I could make them myself, so I have a bit more choice with what kind of character I want.

I really want the Colossal kigu for some reason. It might have something to do with the fact that I've been hankering to try my hand at Bertholdt for a while now. Plus, the Colossal Titan doesn't look as weird when it's all poofy like that.

Looking to buy my first kigurumi. I'm thinking either a rilakkuma or pikachu. I prefer rilakkuma as a character by a mile. Only thing is the fabric on the inside of the hood not matching the rest of the costume has my autism flaring up every time I look at it. I feel sorta meh about the pikachu one. It's okay I guess, and I'd rather have a character specific kigurumi than a generic one I guess. Which one should I get?

>> No.7118793

>>7118768
You realize that is because the character is a bear who wears a bear suit and the inside of his suit is blue polka dot. Almost all plushies of rilakkuma have a zipper in the back showing this.
